Hi, I'm French and live in Lille. Great video and well done making Lille look so good! You were lucky with the weather, not so much with visiting on a Monday 😄. The inside of the old stock exchange (la vieille bourse) at the end, closed on mondays, definitely is something to see, one of my favorite places in Lille. Google up some images of the inside. There are videos too.
One thing: that belfry you showed at the end is NOT the "belfry of Lille", it is a smaller belfry, that of the new stock exchange. Don't worry, you're not the first tourist making this mistake. The belfry of Lille is at city hall, and is 100 meters high (one third of the Eiffel tower).and a little off the town center where you were. You could have seen it in the distance from one corner of the Grand Place, whose real name btw is Place du Général de Gaulle, because he was born in Lille and you can visit his birthplace).
The cathedral façade is an acquired taste, but it has one interesting feature: the special marble used is transparent, so the sun shines through it, and at night they turn on some lights inside and the façade seems to glow when you're outside.
The dessert "merveilleux" (meaning marvellous of course) is pronounced something like Mare Vay uh. Rhymes with French for "2": deux. Pretty easy I'd say, once you know it?
Thank you again for the video. Next time stay a little longer and try the lively night life. Lille looks beautiful at night too. 😎

This is my town. 4 hrs is a bit short to explore, especially if you sit to lunch, but 8 hours is enough. Everybody will agree that the façace of Notre Dame de la Treille is a choice, lol, but I think that's also what makes the beauty of Lille, the contrast between tradition and modernity. If you were there this Monday, I'm not surprised you were begging for cold air. It was insanely hot.

We agree… we only had half a day before basketball (Olympics). It was a beautiful city, and we really hope to come back!

I visited Lille as a day trip from Paris. I bought the city pass which got me a bus tour and public transport plus entry to some attractions. Climbed up a Tower, went to the art gallery; van Gogh's painting of Cows is there. It was on loan when I was there but I caught up with it later in Paris. Lille makes a nice day trip. Just checked my photos the Cathedral looks as it does in your shots normally. You can buy those meringues in Paris too.

Actually, originally Lille was a Flemish-Dutch city with the original name “Rijssel”, until an obscure French king by the name of Lou14 decided he wanted it and took it in 1667 from the Netherlands. Likewise Dunquerque (Duinkerken), Calais (Kales) and a few more. An urban legend has it that general Charles de Gaulle, who was born in Lille came from a family by the name of van der Wal. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Flanders

The best are vergeoise and it is like that we eat them here. sweetness not hard unlikely their belgian couterparts 😉 .

These aren’t crèpes, they are galettes. Galettes are salty, brown coloured and crèpes are sweet, light coloured 😉

@@Yochemm Sorry to disagree but Lille always was part of the Roman Flandern where People spoke a kind of Latin derived language from the third century onwards that stood even after the Frankish ruled and built France from the fith century onwards. The linguistic border being the Lys river . The Franken gradually moved as well to Roman langage which Washington spoken by the vast majority of the population they ruled
