    For $106USD this is a great value. However, right out of the box its impact to your overall sound might be subtle. I got more bang out of it by mixing the 914s output back into its input. One or both of the input signals needs to be inverted depending on the patch and mixer you use. For me that seems to have made each band more "peaky" and thus the 914 was less subtle sounding.

    Comrade, your intros is amazing. Those pots are so tiny! I'm going to have to watch this again, but I love the inclusion of the frequency analyzer.

      Haha Cheers Eric. They are tiny (don't, otherwise I might develop a complex about their miniature size!) and I am jealous of the pots on the full scale modules. Yeah, I thought the analyzer would be helpful in visualising what's going on re the freq band adjustments. Problem is, the subtitles tend to distract from whats going on sometimes.

    I have noticed a bandpass hump makes about anything sound like BOC, but still that thing takes up some HP!

      Digiphex Electronics Yeah that’s the only thing about a lot of the 55 modules - they take up a lot of HP and are very basic features wise compared to most modern eurorack modules. But what they do they do very well (and at a great price).

      I think originally the fixed filter bank was intended to make wave forms sound more natural, like real world instruments. And I can attest that it does achieve that aim pretty effectively. At first, when compared to the unaffected signal, the results can sound odd, but the ear soon gets used to the sound. It's also great for layering oscillators - I often have one vco effected by the filter bank and another effected by a separate LP filter and the Doepfer wave shaper, and the results can be great.

    I wish this had and addition where each pot's position settings could be recorded in real time for asynchronous or clock synched playback.

    I’ve just recently bought a System 15 and I’ve noticed a drop in level whenever I patch into the 914. Is this normal or do I have a faulty module on my hands? It’s the same when I patch into the low pass filter as well…

    • @ZvookUK
      @ZvookUK  Рік тому +1

      If I remember correctly, there should be a lower baseline so that the 'peaks' of the freq bands can be amplified. So id say that sounds normal. In fact now I'm thinking about it, I'm certain that's normal. It's been a while since I used the 914, but i remember the overall level dropping.

      @@ZvookUK I have tested the Behringer 914 vs. Audio Damage's 914A plugin VST. Used ableton. The plug in has a lot more features, like wet vs. dry, and a way to set bandwidth for each band. It does a lot more and can be used in a less subtle way. I like both.

    can this be used as an FX mixer on a DAW such as FL studio?

    • @ZvookUK
      @ZvookUK  3 роки тому +1

      Hi, could you clarify your question? The 914 isn't a mixer (if that's what you're referring to), it filters certain, specific frequency bands. Or, as shown in my video, can be used as a kind of EQ; to boost or attenuate frequency bands.

    • @crossgordon4376
      @crossgordon4376 3 роки тому

      @@ZvookUK you answered my question, thanks. I was just wondering if it was able to be used as a mixer. Sounds like I could still use it tho.

      @@ZvookUK There are two inputs to the Behringer 914. As far as I can tell, these 2 inputs sum whatever is presented at its two input jacks, but I am not sure how it works exactly (might just be resistors between the two inputs in a Y config?). So it might be a bit like a mixer without any knobs.

      I have the Lyra-8 and am very interested in this along with other synths, just seems like a very precise tool for sculpting. I imagine it would do great with the Lyra to cut out certain bands that can easily get out of control.
