To him, Glenn and Abraham was nobody at the time, so getting to know him after he died hurt him a little more. If they made this same show showing Negan's side instead of Rick's side, then Rick's group would be the bad guys here. It's like life, really, which is why this show mirrors real-life events, minus the zombies.

it’s really subtle but did anyone notice the background sound at 3:20 going into like a rigid type effect? Almost identical to the one that played while negan met ricks group and they were all kneeling in s7 e1. and as negan spoke and before he killed glenn to it was always in the background, almost to like add suspense. notice how here it doesn’t appear until he talks about maggie and “death” in general.

Negan isn’t stupid- he has a lot of faults, but stupidity isn’t one. He read this right from the start, and was only off about Daryl being a part of it. And he also showed both bravery and selflessness in offering Maggie out right there- if he died, okay. But the rest of them were in a lot of danger because she was fixed in her mind what she wanted to do and she didn’t care what happened because of it. I think Negan would almost welcome it, rather than looking over his shoulder forever. And that punch Daryl throws- man, is that a callback to Glenn’s death or what! I’m sure the symmetry wasn’t lost on either man- or Maggie

So when he finally has got Rick and his group captured he wants payback and he wants to show his people that he is a true protector of them. Nobody ever asked themselves- including Rick- that if they were in Negan’s place what they would have done. I’m not saying Negan was right for what he did-but I can understand it. Rick went after the Saviors with no idea at all about who and what they were and how many there were of them, what their intentions would be or what their capabilities were- he was arrogant and stupid and careless and it cost Glenn’s life and Abe’s life and many others. Negan literally showed mercy by not killing them all, which lets be real what Rick would have done. Negan had every bit of right to kill Abe and Glenn, they killed about 30 of his men up to that point.

Damn. That's twice Daryl, legit, straight up jawed and rocked Negan head up. People underestimated Daryl's fighting and survival abilities at first sight but Daryl was /is a very good, experienced backwoods brawler that grow up in an abusive, alcoholic, drug addicted Georgian home alongside Merle, who was a very tough, experienced backwoods brawler and street fighter as well as a former Marine scout or sniper much later in life after the Dixon Brothers left home for good, with hand to hand combat training in his short lived military service. Daryl isn't as strong nor tough as Merle but tough. More so advanced and experienced than in season 2 by s5. Negan is a very skilled, tough, capable, experienced bar brawler pre-apocalypse without his baseball bat that battered and strangled a psychopath twice his size (Simon) to death bare handed despite Simon putting up a good fight with effective, hard blows but Negan was too good and resilient for Simon to stand a chance. I think in a real full one on one brawl between Daryl and Negan, I'd give Daryl the slight edge given he jawed Negan in his nightmare introduction and floored Negan easily here but honestly Negan didn't expect it. Negan vs Daryl would be a very evenly matched stalemate and near tie imo but Daryl would narrowly edge the fight in a straight up brawl without weapons. Daryl is near equal to if not the equivalent to Rick Grimes in fighting skills, strength and experience with Rick being slightly stronger and more well trained as a former Sheriff pre-apocalypse that advanced into a far tougher, stronger, resilient, experienced bruiser by season 5 after his near death experience at the Governor's hands and killing Joe the Claimer to save his child from sodomy and death alongside himself, Michone and Daryl present. Rick's fights against Negan were always a tie with Negan always having his ball bat, Lucille and still struggling with Rick, unarmed at that. In a fair man to man hand to hand fight like Rick vs Philip Blake aka The Governor season 5 Rick won kick Negan's ass but it'd be an evenly matched scrap.
Not that it matters and im probably stating the obvious but for those of you wondering why Negan called Daryl “buddy” the way he did was bc as you’ve probably seen by now he thought Daryl was going along with Maggie planning on getting him killed or killing him herself. Obviously as Negan said Daryl was clearly clueless and it was obvious the moment he looked directly at Maggie as soon as Negan called her out on trying to manifest his death. Another obvious statement… Negan ain’t stupid, the man has obviously done some AWFUL shit during his glory days of being the big bad villain.
