- How to Clean an Essential Oil Diffuser
It's important to regularly clean your diffuser if you want to keep it running properly and get a longer life out of it. If you don't, the oil residue can gunk up the inside of the diffuser and cause the motor and parts to fail or stop working properly.
The vinegar method is what I have been using on mine and it seems to work pretty well. I plan to try other methods, but for now, this is how I'll continue to clean my diffusers.
I do recommend reading your owner's manual and contacting the company if you have any issues or specific questions regarding your machine.
Thanks for the video! I would also recommend that we should use distilled water in our diffusers. It would prevent the mineral build up inside the unit and extend the life of the diffuser. I have been using distilled water for years and my YL diffuser is over 10 years old. Thanks again !
thanks for this comment! when i start using my diffusers i’ll definitely have to do this because all of the ones i’ve used so far tend to break very quickly and where i am in jersey is pretty nasty. again, thank you!
Great advice thanks
Is water that you can drink better?
@@yerika071 boiled water would be better, it would remove a lot of the minerals
@Sonny it's ok but still has some minerals in it, distilled is the best
Thank you for this. I just bought the same one and was wondering how to clean it properly!
Thank you. I was able to fix my diffuser. It was gunked up really bad. I broke my other one before watching this by scraping the disk not understanding how it actually works. Luckily I had 2. I followed how you cleaned and now mine works.
Thank you for this video. I never have clean my diffuser before and now I realize I should start doing it more often. 😆
Thank you. My diffuser developed a weak mist but after using your suggestions it is now misting as when I bought it. 😆
I have that same diffuser. Thank you for showing us how to clean it. I never knew that I should clean it after each use. Mine had terrible build up gunk!!! It's all sticky and was hard to get rid of it. I wished I would have watched this tutorial first.
Thank you! I have the same one diffuser for a month now and really needed to figure out how to clean it!
Great to see that you don't leave the water running 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
🤣
Crazy how I was just watching this video to clean my sister's Asakuki diffuser, and I am currently wearing the exact same National Society of Leadership and Success T-shirt that you have on in this video lmaooooo
I soaked mine in water with a chlorine tablet (the top of it because it was covered in mould 🤮) it disinfected it soo well because within 5 minutes my diffuser was crystal clean lol. Just make sure you rinse it out extremely well after so the chlorine smell doesn’t linger around. I do like this cleaning method i’ll probably use it on a daily as I use my diffuser everyday :).
Thanks for the video!!
This really helped with the oil build up in my diffuser. Thank you.
Just subscribed to your channel. Detailed oriented and clear instructions. You should have more subscribers imo.
So very thankful for this blog,it really help me a lot, almost helpless until I saw video....thank you for sharing♥️♥️♥️♥️
Great video thanks for your time in making this tutorial.
Thank you so much! My doterra vapor was no longer vaporizing lol! I cleaned it with the vinegar and it is working wonderful again
Thank you. I’m trying this now.
yes i do it similar i get a damp cloth squeeze some vinigar on it wipe it out then fill with water and squeeze more vinigar in i dont measure it i think the more vinidar the better so just give two or three massive squeezes
Thanks for sharing your method. Very helpful . I just received mine today ….
Thank you, I'm looking for this type cuz we have the same one.
Great teacher and to the point. Thank you very much.
Thank you very much for recording this video!❤
Do not use distilled or purified water according to the instructions as some has suggested. Instructions specifically says not to use. Use faucet water.
Worked beautifully! Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks a lot for this! Very helpful 😊
Thank you so much for the information. I will be sure to try this one!!!
I have a filled water bottle that I use to pour water into my diffuser so I don't have to keep filling up that little thing. I've cleaned my diffuser with witch hazel as well. It doesn't smell as overwhelming as the vinegar.
Michaela Hudson I notice on the past year that white vinegar has a very foul almost sulfuric acid smell
thank you! i couldnt figure out how to get the smell out of one really strong essential oil for MONTHS, but after cleaning it like this the smell is faint!!!
Thank you so much I thought might just stop when I was about to throw it in the trash!
Thank you for this video! It was super helpful! Much appreciated!
Thank you so much I have the same one the big one just got it today !!
I have a new diffuser that I've tried cleaning after just 3 uses and I still can't get rid of the oil's lingering odor. Those heavier/thicker base oils like Sandalwood and Rose are stubborn to fully neutralize but at least they're pleasant enough to smell after the top notes evaporate.
Thank you. Very clear instructions; well done.
Thank you very clear instructions. Am subscribing
Thank you! Very helpful
Gracias el mio volvio a funcionar limpiándolo con tus consejos
Thanks for the video and tip. Great advice
Thank you for the info. What brand is your diffuser, so i can get one. 🙏🏻

I have a question How daily should i Clean my Aroma Diffuser? Because im using it everyday
She said if u use it everyday, clean it 2 weeks after using it
What can I use if I can't get hold of distilled vinegar?

Ty this was really helpful
Can I use artificial vinegar to clean?
Thank you for sharing.
Marissa, Thank you for watching!
There's a cover lid in side the top that comes apart it also needs to be cleaned and the out side top please check the t has 2 piece needs to clean both
I have the 2nd one and after leaning it now it leaks please help what or how do I fix the leak ?
can you clean it with rubbing alcohol instead of vinegar?
alcohol kills bacteria really well, but it doesn't break up mineral deposits as well as the acid in vinegar.
What do you call the second type? We have it and my mom uses water-based lavender oil and I get allergies from it, wondering if I just need to clean it or am I using the wrong oil type?
I have a Air Diffuser but I like yours. I was curious which make and model you have?
I have the same and I bought it from amazon. Here is the link, if that helps.

My diffuser is now starting to produce less mist than it used to. Is that a sign for me to do this method of cleaning? And if i should clean it, will the vinegar odor stick to the diffuser afterwards? Thanks!
Vinegar odour dissipates quickly. I even put small glass containers around my house with vinegar to help clear odours (ie. animals, cooking, smoking etc.). It's one of the best cleaners ever as no harmful chemicals.
What if I don't have vinegar is there anything to use?
Thank ou I am going to try it out.
Huh, NSLS shirt. Nice.
Thank you!
Can I use alcohol?
no
as I was relocating my diffuser, it topped over and water spilled everywhere. What do I do? Am afraid water might have gone to intake side.
Thank you for your video. It's very helpful : )
Good video but after u poured vinegar in your diffuser why soak the cotton ball in more vinegar and squeeze precisely 10 drops of it from the cotton ball? 🤔 lol
It because No medicine dropper 😅😂😊
Hi do you know how to insert ag filter on this diffuser?
It didn’t work
i do similar but instead of running it for 5min i let it run until water runs out and it turns itself off i just let it do its job and dont fuss over it i dont care about the vinigar smell and there is a big smell anyway
If anyone can help. How do I open the remote? I have tried sliding it out, but it doesn't. I'm afraid to brake it. Thank you
I didn't need Vinegar I just used a butter knife to scrap the brown stains away and wiped with a towel and it came off
i have a defusser and was wondering can I clean it with malt brown vinegar instead of white or would that damage my defusser
girl thank you so much
My diffuser starts to wet the table after cleaning. Any fix?
I'm having the same problem
Mine wont stop beeping what’s wrong with it ?
Is distilled vinegar is also helpful for cleaning my dessert mist diffuser? Coz mine has no vapor mist coming out😔 and its still new
I thought you were supposed to use distilled water
yaaas thats what i thought too
You are
Good idea I need aromatherapy how clean it and repair
I try it off it self I need fix it
Awesome thanks a lot
This video is not following the instructions that came with that EXACT diffuser at all. Adding all that water will dilute the vinegar too much. You're supposed to add 100ml WARM water (up to 70 degrees Celsius) with 2-3 DROPS of vinegar and then "leave the diffuser for 3 to 5 minutes." IDK if it's supposed to be on or off. I followed the instructions with just 2-3 drops and warm water. What you're using seems like too much vinegar to me, but what do I know?
she did that dumbass lmao
Using filtered water is better...
Can someone help me?
I've had my diffuser for a long time. Never had any odor problems from essential oils.
I bought an essential oil (more specifically it's called SANTAL) and it stinks. I bought it based on all of the positive influencers on YT saying how great this essential oil smell is. Supposed to smell like an expensive hotel. I have no clue what that is supposed to be but I took a chance anyway.
I can't stand the Santal scent. I thought cutting it with something else would help. YUCK!
I've cut the scent with oils like Vanilla and Cinnamon and it just always overpowers everything. It's very cloying.
Needless to say I've cleaned and run the diffuser with Vinegar, Rubbing Alcohol, Dawn Dish Soap, Dawn Power Wash. Nothing will get rid of that Santal scent. It's embedded in there. Every other essential oil that I've ever used previously has never left an unwanted scent.
Anyone got any ideas? I'm about ready to heave the diffuser.
Vinegar and water. Easy. Should have taken 3 minutes tops. Duh.
Thanks! I just bought mine and l love ❤️ it so far.
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you!
