close your eyes,,,, picture yourself sitting outside a cabin on the porch with your friends sipping some honeysuckle shine , swapping stories. a gentle wind flows across the hairs on your arm. the music is in your blood. the same blood as your earthly brothers. no words need be said, and this song follows that gentle breeze.and time slows down to cherish every second as if it was your last. feels good, dont it? your welcome here anytime, no judging anything, letting your souls blend together. happy, content. heaven on earth. that is how i paint my picture
One thing that strikes me about Levon - every single time you see him playing, he looks like an excited small boy to be on stage singing/drumming/playing. So talented and yet so humble. RIP.
I've got it myself & will have it till I also get to the RIP part. You might understand that some of us have no choice & whether anybody gets the chance to hear any of us humble boys is not really in our control if we don't do the "business" part of it. I'm glad we all got to hear this guy :) Me, I will always be the small boy on stage as I wasn't very tall to start with! ;)
I just love this song and the looks on the faces of the players, doing what they love with the man they love, Levon Helm, "The Man". Larry Campbell's picking on this is special!
Of course, Levon Helm was the backbone of The Band and wrote many of their best songs. He played Loretta Lynn's daddy in the movie "Coal Miner's Daughter".
the problem with this is that there is no problem. it just caint get any better, thanks 4 posting. still can't get over it. best version. music to my ears.
I lived in Dallas for a year and came back to Austin in 1972. I knew this song and wondered if it was about Deep Elem in Dallas. Come to find out that it is! Levon and his band do a damn fine job playing it too!
so damn nice, thank you Levon, great vocals Larry. If you can count Levon Helm and Jorma Kaukonen as artists you've played with often, then you're doing great.
Deep Ellum... back when I lived in Ft, Worth, many years ago now was a place some of us wanted to go, we KNEW where the music was real, & so was life, rich with the good soul. Maybe I'll get back there who knows. Meantime thanks to Levon & Dirt Farmers not to mention soo many others for keeping this alive
Beautiful, joyful, relaxed musicianship. Like all great bands, it's about how good the music is rather than how good the players are. This is what you learn from a lifetime of doing it well.
@@dragmyre Levon was the original drummer /singer in the group called the Band .in th e 60 s to the end , wikkpedia them im pretty sure youll know some of their songs .

I met levon's helms mother and father on a bus trip from Az to Ct. they got on in joplin. they were going up to Bethel N.Y. . saw the scrap books and pictures of Levon's prom tux. it was light blue . nice people . literally salt of the earth

hey now rick , east coast Canada . saw levon n band 6 months before we lost him it was amazing the energy n respect for him that was in the room .it was incediable how he was , as he was suffering from cancer at the time , i belive , taking short cuts in his drum playing , but still keeping the sharp ,bright Levon beat in tact, that he owned , amazing to watch . i believe it was close to 2 hour show , sure it was over 90 minutes and him that close to the end played the whole time . even sang a couple , Levon Lives .
The whole song is so cool...call me a bass lover, I don't care, I love the stand up bass in this song. It's all good but bravo to the gentleman bass player. Love you all for sharing with us. Thanks, Mr. Levon Love and miss you sir.

love this more traditional arrangement of the blues classic......r.i.p. Levon
One of the best pickers and singers to ever grace a stage. Fantastic! 🎶🤗🎵
Levon's Music Transcends Time, Race or Creeds --It is Music from the Heart and Soul that All can Respect and Enjoy.....
Larry Campbell is one of the most talented unknown musicians around.
Yes, first time listening to him. Great feel on the guitar and voice!
Love me some larry campbell and miss levon too.
Couldn't agree more. Saw him play with Shawn Colvin in Boulder in '17. What a show!
He’s not unknown tho. Has a killer career. Well respected.
Yo le conocí en Madrid y tanto el como su mujer son increíbles a todos los niveles !!!
His parties were amazing, he was even more amazing. He was a real good human and I'll miss him.
That´s the right weight and speed! Very heavy and nice. One off our favourite tunes at the oldtime jam, Stockholm, Sweden with Rachel Eddy.
Is there some kinda way I can give this two likes?
I'll add one for you.
Me too!

Absolutely.. and knowing how much respect everyone had for Lavon (his real spelling) makes it even sweeter!!
One of the best versions I've heard. So much feeling.❤
Levons birthday ought to be a national holiday.
Amen to that!
wooooooow sweet Mama; Daddy got them DEEP Elem Blues!
Well then let's just do that. May 26th, I believe.
Amen brother
Or at least a Arkansas state holiday

Is it not Deep Ellum? I was wondering about the same, if this song was written about that neighborhood in Dallas famous for its Blues History.
so damn nice, thank you Levon, great vocals Larry. If you can count Levon Helm and Jorma Kaukonen as artists you've played with often, then you're doing great.

Saw him a long time ago Backing Bob Dylan. On "All Along the Watchtower", the was playing Hendrix's part on an old lap steel. My jaw is still dropped.
