Thanks for this great video. I have repaired clocks for 40 years as a “hobby”. (Stopped doing it 13 years ago.) I collected clocks and had a mentor who taught me and pushed me to get my license as a “ Certified Horologist” as was needed in Michigan at the time. I thoroughly enjoy watching you and comparing techniques. Most of which, I am delighted, are the same. I taught elementary school for 35 years. Working on a clock when I got home was great therapy: instant reward for a job well done, and the satisfaction of turning something non-working into working. I also enjoyed the looks and feelings of pleasure seeing their treasured clock working as it should. Thank you so much for taking part in The Repair Shop. Watching it is a very rewarding experience.
You really could amass a huge following on UA-cam, Steve. Don't stop at one video. Watching you take such delight from stripping things down and fixing them back up is very entertaining.
Hi Steve, I'm glad you've got your own channel. I find your skills fascinating. Repair Shop is my Favourite Show and I'm hoping that the show will continue. Many thanks Steve (and I also enjoy Sue).
known of you since the repair shop aired in Australia, wish all of you made more episodes, such a great show, restoring the history, and the engineering of time itself. great video.
Marvellous , my gran had a jewellers and I used to spend hours watching the clock repairer work . So pleased to see you on your own doing your talented best . Re watching brings the memories .
Thank you for sharing. In my early years I used to repair / rebuild clocks. I now only do my own clocks. You are one of those people that actually preserve history. Without people like you all that knowledge would be lost and we would be guessing about the past. Thank you for your work and for sharing.
One of my uncles repaired clocks and watches. He also drove the large, long "earthmover" Caterpillar tractors for a living. Quite a contrast in skills!
My granddad was a clock and watch repair man and his sister worked on clocks! So wished I would of been more interested in it growing up! Miss hearing all those clocks in one room! Music to my ears!
Likewise. I only just learnt about repair shop during series 4 and Christmas one was the first episode I saw last year. Such a beautifully made and emotional programme too. 👍 🕒
Very interesting i live in spain for 21 years but sold antique clocks for years i have a guy in uk repiring a longcase clock movement for me i purchased it 4 yeats ago and he is doing it in his spair time it a longcase regulator year going i am looking forward to reciving it back he sends me videos on his progress so i love wathing your program
Now this is a master clockmaker! The way you care for these works of art is akin to the love of a new parent bringing her newborn home from the hospital! - love it! please make more videos. JEB
Hi Steve, lovely workmanship, based of course on years of experience, gained by staying calm in the face of often challenging issues to be found as you well know in all things mechanical!? Does it not make you wonder, how did they do your work,so well too, hundreds of years ago, with hardly any materials and tools so freely available today?! I’m sure it crosses your mind, as it does mine so often!? I’m a time served toolmaker of 73 summers and fully understand and appreciate your(and your dear sisters) brilliant efforts! Thank you both!
Steve, as an avid watcher of the repair shop , I love watching you when you are repairing something it's such a special skill you have in something so delicate a a clock or a watch And my other favourite person is your sister and her leather work ! Please keep it goin
It’s great to see that someone is still carrying on with the great work that clock & watch smiths do, my Grandfather worked at it from the time he left school until he retired in his eighties, he was in such huge demand he even had his own workshop at home, there was a strong smell of tricolytharine in the workshop as he used it in his own cleaning machine. He was responsible for many years for winding the clock in our Cathedral in Chelmsford Essex, back then health & safety meant he didn’t need anyone help him climb the clock tower, he had many very valuable clocks & watches in his care, Omega being one of the many he loved to work on, in later life he concentrated on clock repair as the parts were easily handled by a man with old age effecting his movement. If he were alive today he would be thrilled to see you working as a watch smith on our TV screens, keep up your wonderful work Steve
Fascinating, especially as I’ve just recognised Steve off my favourite TV programme, The Restoration Shop on BBC 2. Such skill and patience. I’ve parked by his shop loads of times and even been in but never made the connection till now. As I know it will be in such capable hands I will now get my late in-laws mantle clock fixed
Bumped into this - glad to see it. As a sentimental customer, absolutely delighted to say the clocks that you have serviced for us are still both loved and ticking! X many more years, Steve- thank you 💛
First saw you on The Repair Shop. I love how much you put into the repairs you do. You are such an artist when it comes to restoring and conserving these little pieces of history!
Great video, love the Repair shop. I have nearly 30 Clocks dating from a circa 1780 Longcase to my Aunt and Uncle's Wedding present in 1951. I've always been fascinated by the work that the Clock repairers do. An 18th century Bracket Clock that you had worked on, I think it was about 1979 went through Canterbury Auctions the other year. Looking forward to seeing some more videos.
Can't help but admire these guys. Technology which delivers the time with a sophistication of its own, with or without modern technology! Thanks for the video.
Steven, you're a real craftsman. A very interesting video, and beautiful clocks in your workshop. Your story too from your grandfather, father, to yourself, is quite a legacy, you must still be using old tools belonging at one time to them. Many thanks for this video. 👍👍👍👍
Thoroughly enjoy seeing you and Sue on the Repair Shop. If you should ever be coming to Spain, I have a chiming clock that was a wedding present to my grandparents on 31st January 1917. It was a great reassurance to me during WWII because if I woke up it was pitch dark (black out) and I heard the clock chime (every quarter) I knew everything was OK. There is also the clock on the old village school, with carillon, needs fixing.
Thankyou so much, boy you are such an interesting man to watch and listen to and the way you restore those movements back to what they were and I can relate to what you are saying about the frustrations some customers can create when they have a little fiddle trying to make adjustments and make a confusing mess of it all and are reluctant to confess anything anyway thanks once again for a most enjoyable video.Jim from AUSTRALIA.
I think you and your sister Suzie are the business. You love your work so much. I have just bought a 1937 German Mantle clock. Should arrive by Friday, I hope it will still work.... Keep well you two.
Great video, you are inspiring. I would freak out a bit going up the clock towers. I get claustrophobia a bit and I have fallen on a couple of jobs. Just curious, how stable is the tower floors? I'm not so bad about the heights. Don't even mind the fall, just hate the ending part. Fell off one job 20 feet backwards. Stuck my arm out to prevent breaking my head but hip hit the concrete like a bowling ball. Another job my foot slipped off a rafter from the thick insulation on top and I fell through the drywall ceiling. Fell right in the middle of drywall crew having lunch. You should have seen the expressions on their faces. The claustrophobia gets to me. My first experience was my mother putting me in a turtle neck sweater with a hoody. I couldn't stand it. It was like death had me in it's clutches.
I greatly enjoyed watching your work on 'Repair shop'. Would love to see more video's of some of your experiences with other clocks and watches. You are very skilled.
You have an amazing talent sir, I have watched you on the repair shop on TV and you never cease to amaze me. I bow to your knowledge and expertise, you are a pleasure to watch. Totally amazing. Bravo. With love from me and my mum. ♥️👏👏👏👏👌👌👌
Hello Steve from the Repair Shop. It took me a while but I recognise you now. Fame is rightly due to you. You cannot know what a favour you have done for me!! My wife used to be scathing about my two pairs of glasses.... not anymore. There is something romantic about the old clockmaker and the clockwork. I think there's something wonderful when engaging with pieces that have marked our progress for so long. Even a 50 year old timepiece has seen a lot of water pass under the bridge. One question only. Of course I don't expect an answer but I'll ask you anyway. Let's by-pass the mechanisms and the repair phases, the diagnostics and the cheeky tricks of the lathe-work. I want to ask just this: How do you get the brass parts so bright? I've tried everything from ammonia mixes to silver-dip. So far I think it lime washing up liquid that has the best score! However, it's never like yours Steve. Wonderful video and the Repair Shop has made me feel almost normal once again! Thanks a bundle for being everything I have always tried to be. Sincerely, BerryG.
Hello Steve, I watch The Repair Show program. I see you are good craftsmanship in Repairing all sort of thing but what I like to know in that program what Mr. Jade do I never see him Repairing or restoring anything
I have a pretty expensive TISSOT wrist watch, automatic....and that thing drives me crazy....it was back in factory 2 times coz it just does not run right....about 5 mins/day....didnt help.....that watch still runs wrong, while I really like the looks of it......pisses me off...
I love that parts are fabricated vice just replacing broken items as a first mediation to repair. Brilliant, I just had 2 clocks repaired, one a family cuckoo clock and another grandfather clock someone abandon. Lovely sounds.
The clock has a low tone on 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4, as well as the number of hours is also low, and some of its parts (parts of the machine) need maintenance. The clock is located in Iraq - Baghdad. How much does it cost to maintain it so that I can calculate the shipping costs and that I only send the machine, knowing that the clock is working With three weights

My uncle was the youngest watch maker in the US, sadly he has passed without passing on any of his knowledge or skill. What was worse is it was Alzheimer's that took the mind long before his body
Repair shop, best programme on television, especially the clock repairing. I purchase mainly mantle clocks, restore them, and sell them on. Really enjoy working on them
A really interesting video Steve, thank you for taking the trouble. As has been mentioned below, you should make more videos, they are truly inspiring. I have been scrolling down the comments below. Have you noticed that most are from people who give their full names rather than some silly handle. You have some serious follows. When the Covid restrictions are lifted I will pop over from France and bring my Shoolbred school clock in for repair.
Love your video. Love your talent. Wished that I had your talent. I do my own clock repairs and post videos on how to repair. I have a lot of people asking me how to fix cuckoo clocks. My most watched video is how to repair the music box for the little man that comes out of the cuckoo clock. Keep up the great work. Subscribing to your channel.

You could also have been a dentist. Brilliant man and brilliant video.

really enjoyed the video.... it is such a fascinating subject ... i wish i knew more.... many many thanks ....
Steve, at some point would you do a video of just the sounds of your work shop? Just the works and the chimes?
Hi Steven, I have a 1940s grandfather's clock that need repairs. How do I contact you for us to talk. I'm from Ghana, West Africa. Thanks

I have a watch that my son bought for me.
The cat knocked it off the unit and some how the watch fell apart
And the winder snapped
Took it to a watch repair shop.
They could not fix it or they just couldn't be bothered.
I tried to fix it myself without my son finding out, but I just made it worse
Maybe the watch is unrepairable

I also wonder how you can remove the rust without also washing away the patina?
Thanks for an interesting and entertaining video.
Thank Truly a rare breed. It would be lovely to sit alone in the sound of the clocks at dawn🌟
I'm 19 and I'd love to become a clock repairer :D
Where do you live state?
My elderly father has a watch which is precious to him. Unfortunately no one is able to repair it after he had a major fall last year.
