It's because the masterpiece figure has to have a show accurate back and torso. All that blue metal and spinal detail has to come from and go somewhere.
I finally decided to watch BW right when this figure was disappearing from shelves. I'm glad I did and the one I grabbed at Target ended up being the last one I ever saw in stores, and it's a great one!
EMGO.. I see the alt mode thighs lock on your copy and don't on mine. One side is good and the other side there is a very annoying gap. Hope it's not a common issue. Love this figure and had to order a second.

Is it weird that the hips in my robot mode is wobbly? On another note, the part where the tuck the robot head in the beast butt, and stow the robot legs into the pegs is very difficult. Can anyone help me with this?
if by hips you mean the entire upper torso area it seems to be a common thing through all molds of this figure , im guessing even grimlock amazon exclusive version will have it. i think its caused by how the transformation works and where the hip joint for rotation is being supported only by 1 pin holding the torso to the waist.

Considering what the toy designers were stuck with (No transformers cheat like the Beast Wars did with transforming), this is damn impressive.

Thank you for the JTai, they help a lot in figuring out the transformation when I feel the instructions aren’t that good.
I found this figure in a box and I didn't know how to convert it from a robot to a dinosaur, thanks for sharing

I have that problem too, as well as the robo knees splitting when I try to tab them in dino mode
