Katie Lucas developed those witches on the Clone Wars. It's a strange idea to have witches in Star Wars but it worked well.
Yeah, I really enjoy the clone wars. I thought the witches were a cool idea. They were actually in the old galaxies video game I think. I remember being on the planet and riding a Rancor. So I’m glad to see them, and they look pretty scary. Hey, when Star Wars is bad, I’m gonna call it out, when it gets better, I’m gonna be honest about it.
There is a really old book from 1994 called "The Courtship of Princess Leia" where the witches are first introduced. I prefer that version of the witches to this, but I am old. :P
@asmurk1276 Really. Wow. In the special features on the Clone Wars DVD, they make it appear that the witches are Katie Lucas's idea. She said she was inspired by "Tank Girl?"
@@Denis-fp7ku That is odd. However the witches of dathomir in that book is more like native american/amazon like being in different tribes like the "Singing Mountain Clan", while the new witches seem like well Witches are usually depicted. Maybe the idea of the new witches comes from "Tank Girl". If you have not read the book, I strongly recommend it. It also shows Luke as Luke, and not Jake Skywalker. ;)
I always enjoy watching your videos Erik. Thanks for your honest reviews.
Hey Scott, I appreciate you stopping by. Heads up, I think my next two thumbnails are going to be classics. I’ll be at the hard rock next week watching Ahsoka, life doesn’t get any better.
There's some cool stuff in there, certainly shows up the other shows. I like Sabine, but I think they can do better than TikTok girlboss script and delivery. She's lucky she only gets shot in the armour, like Mando!
Thrawn was cool, I only know him from the old novels, but for me, it was right on.
I'm changing my mind about Dave Filoni too, he's got me onside forever if he smokes Hera and her kid.
Yeah, maybe they miscast Sabine. Maybe the actress doesn’t have that screen presents or a charm. I know she’s supposed to be immature and sassy, and stubborn, for reasons, but it’s not working. I thought she was a little bit better in this episode. Maybe Ezra can make her more likable. I really thought the guy playing. Ezra looked right, so I want to see more from him. There are pieces here to work with.
Yes, well said 👏 👍 it was something new but felt old, like good old Star Wars 🌟
Yes, Vergie, I actually watched this episode again tonight. I enjoyed it again. As far as Disney Star Wars goes, this is pretty good. I hope Thrawn kicks the new republics butt.
Fabulous fabulous. I think the reason this show is getting good is because it’s bringing back the mysticism and wonder of star wars.
Well, maybe I’ve watched so much bad Star Wars lately, this is seeming better than it is. I don’t know, but I did enjoy watching it last night! And now I think I got to buy some toys.
@EvrydayErik haha, well I think if they’ve convinced Mr. EverydayErik to buy some toys, I believe they’ve finally succeeded. 😂
Good episode in general if your into the show at this point. The only thing for me. We now reached our destination, Ezra and Thrawn. Our goal from the beginning of the Season. So, only two episodes left. And I'm missing the bigger picture at the moment. Or what is at stake actually. Ezra just casually hanging out with the turtle people 😍 with nothing to do it seems. Don't see the danger to Thrawn at the moment. But slightly excited about what events will unfold next week. The last two ones better not be 35 minute episodes.
Yeah, I was very surprised to see Thrawn and Ezra so soon. I’m curious what Ray Stevenson is after on that planet. I want to see the night sisters dark magic. I do want to see Thrawn get back to Coruscant and slap the new republic silly. 🤷♂️
As somebody who always roots for the villains, I’m absolutely loving how great the bad guys are in this show.
Its also good to see somebody try something new in the Star Wars universe, intergalactic travel and as Baylan said ‘a new beginning,’ is so much more interesting than the pointless, money grab horrible shows we’ve gotten like Boba Fett, Mando S3 and Kenobi
Yeah, that’s where I’m coming from on this. After sitting through Obi-Wan Kenobi, Boba, Fett, and Mando season three, this is an improvement. And I do love the smorgasbord of villains we are getting. Darth Stevenson is after one thing, the witches are probably after another thing, and Thrawn is after his own thing. For a change it’s really interesting. Star Wars overall is in a very bad place, but there is a little bit of light here to talk about. Cheers!
Hey Erik I know this is a Star Wars video, but I’ve been meaning to ask you if you have been reading the moon knight comic series by Jed Mackay?? It’s really awesome and it washes the nasty taste of the Disney plus series out of your mouth. One of the best comics out there right now! It pays so much respect to all of the older series, and it’s building up to something cool. I just thought you would enjoy it and would love to hear your thoughts on it. 👍
Hey, Moon Knight talk is always welcome. If you’ve watched my videos on moonknight, you’ll know I’m not a big fan of that show. But yes, I loved the old Comics when he actually was a violent Batman. Moon knight is one of my favorite characters, so I’m definitely going to mark it down and check it out. I have the marvel app, so I’ll see if I can call some of those up for my plane ride this week. I’ll see if I can hit a comic book shop on my travels. Thanks for the recommendation!
Yeah duder. Spot on the Denni & Garreth Edwards vibes. It's maybe not THAT great but definitely in the zone. The only thing that felt a bit cheesy to me was the Thrawn makeup...but I expected that after Cad Bane in the Boba series. At least underneath is a good actor (although needs a bit of a diet). Thumbs up for some positivity Erik, and not doing the Critical Drinker shtick. Another good ep. Looks like a solid series. I hope they won't spoil it in the last act. Oh...the Enoch guy reminded me of Mordred from Excalibur.
You nailed it, Enoch does look like golden boy from Excalibur! I want to say there’s something in gladiator, that he looks like too. I don’t know, I like how Thrawn showed up, pretty suddenly, and his crew was pretty intimidating. I still think the show had a pretty rough beginning, but I did enjoy the last two episodes.
@@EvrydayErik Yeah the Sardaukar Van Halen crew and the whole scene was cool. I just meant the makeup/visual presence of Thrawn. Could have been (somehow :) a bit more gritty, powerful and maybe mysterious. Small nitpick.
I agree with you about the Dune vibes, and the nightsisters are creepy as hell. I like that we are in a new place and I can't predict what will happen next. I also like that we are learning more about Baylon's agenda, and that there was more dialogue between him and Shin. Esp when he said "I trained you to be something more". Finally I agree that they found a good Ezra. His voice sounds just like Ezra in Rebels.
I only hope we know exactly what Baylon's plan is by the finale. I like that Sabine still cannot wield the force. (When she tried in the prison cell and the walls started shaking, it was the Chimera approaching.)
I also feared that we would not see Thrawn or Ezra until the finale, and I am pleasantly surprised. Sabine is still my least favorite part. I realize they are trying to make her sassy like she was in rebels, but to me her dialogue sounds out of place sometimes. Overall loving the show.
Yeah, I was really happy to see Ezra and Thrawn. I was happy with both performances. It would be nice to see some chemistry and romance between Sabine and Ezra. I’m not expecting it though from Disney. And I’m super interested in Darth Stevenson, whatever he’s up to. It’s such a shame that Ray passed away. I hear you about Sabin, she’s moody, and sassy. Maybe she’s acting a little too immature, she is a lot older than she was in the cartoon so I don’t get it. I think they made her character regress maturity wise just so they could build some kind of story arc for her, I’m assuming she grows up a bit by the end. Or not. I am looking forward to doing a review this Tuesday! Cheers! I have an idea for my thumbnail, which might heat things up.
Mentioning Denis Villeneuve got my attention, as Dune-on-repeat’s been all of my sci-if life of late..
fun episode Solid 8 out of 10..
What’s up pinkie lover? Yeah, I can go with eight out of 10. For Disney Star Wars, it’s pretty good. Definitely looking forward to next week. And seeing where some of these things are headed. Cheers!
Also I feel bad for this series as people have been burnt in the past with terrible star wars that they will give it a miss I nearly did
Yeah, I mean I get it if you haven’t seen rebels, you might be asking what the hell is going on? I did like rebels, so this sort of works for me. It’s not great Star Wars, but it’s watchable Star Wars.
Hey Double E! Another good review!. But I am going to have to disagree on with you on some things on this episode. I thought it was a slow episode again, there were a some things that were not needed considering there are two episodes left, I think there was'nt a need for the horse and Sabine scenes, nor the long stroll through mutant ninja turtle land. What was with blue Elon Musk looking like Thrawn? Obviously he really spent his time making a brewery and enjoying it with that physique he was showing. I thought he was a warrior and supposed to be in shape? The gold storm-trooper helmet reminded me of Ming the Merciless guards from the 1980's Flash Gordon movie. LOL But the Aladdin, sorry Ezra and Sabine meeting was a little flat, I would think they would be more excited to see each other. I did like the look of the scenery of the planet, the three witches, the after market gold parts on the customized Star Destroyer. Look, I just miss Hera's ass walking around. LOL Sorry for long rant, keep up the great reviews.
Haha! Love the references. Yeah I was listening to Friday night tights, and they were having a field day with beer belly Elon Thrawn. I get it, but speaking as an older guy myself, it’s hard to keep that belly in. I saw this older Thrawn as not as polished here, and maybe has been through hell in this other universe. He’s a little bit nerfed. I don’t know (i’m guilty of writing the script for them) I totally get what you’re saying. I’m not saying this is great, but I will say it’s definitely better than Obi and Fett. I did like rebels, so maybe that’s where they got me. Between you and me, I think Star Wars, his dad until they fix the Jake Skywalker problem. I do like the whimsical nature of the wolf and the ninja turtles. I do like little goofy, unexpected surprises, and Star Wars. I think Dave Filoni’s heart is in the right place, unfortunately, he’s left with the scraps that Jar Jar Abrams and Ruin Johnson left him. Never apologize for a long rant. Next week I’ll be watching Ahsoka at the hard rock hotel, life doesn’t get any better than that.
@@EvrydayErik You are hilarious, I'm not saying this Ahsoka is terrible either I just think these 8 episode type shows could be condensed to relieve us all of the boredom of these writers and directors having to fill an 8 show series. These series should be 2-3 hours long, total, and they would be soo much better. They would have to cut out the weird bikers in Fett and these mutant turtles and rat horse scenes in Ahsoka. But anyway, have an awesome time at Hard Rock, look forward to watching the next episode review of yours!
Isn't it strange that good characters and writing in a show makes all the sexist and racist disappear how bizarre, also they made the bad guy in the series seem a big deal and a threat which was great to see
Oh yeah, no one’s complaining about Darth Hottie being a woman. We just didn’t like Reeva. I guess I still could be racist, huh? I think I’m the only one that would be interested in a Lando Movie, done right. 🤷♂️
@@EvrydayErik I hope they bring Hondo into this , he was one of my favourites. But yeah I love how something at least passable or good it keeps the racists away
@mrskullduggery2247 yeah, where is Hondo? Maybe he’s still at Galaxies Edge.
Erick good review, the show is picking up. Thrawn was awesome. I Think Baylon wants to set up shop on this planet, start a temple and train Shin Hottie, sabine and ezra there. He mentioned the planet has something special about it. I could be wrong. But he orchestrated the whole thing to have all jedi in one place. I don't believe he wants to kill them.
I think you’re right. I think Darth Stevenson does want to do a new Jedi order, but do it his way. That makes sense. And I thought Thrawn was awesome, some people say he’s got a belly, but he’s really a tactician so I don’t mind it. Next week I’ll do my review from the hard rock hotel, life doesn’t get any better.
Loved this episode! I agree, it didn’t feel like a tv show. It felt so high quality.
Yeah, I really liked that episode. Great job by a Director I was not familiar with. But I would like to see more from her! The tone was right and consistent.
Hey Erik! My girlfriend and I look forward to every video you put out there. You think the same way we do and can't wait to see if you thought the same things as us when watching the new episodes. Looking forward to the next one. Peace!
I appreciate that! Let me ask you a question, when do you think is the best time for me to post my review? Immediately after the show, or the next morning, next afternoon? I never know the right time. Next week I’ll be doing my review from the hard rock Hotel in Orlando, watching Ahsoka, and staying at the hard rock, life doesn’t get any better than that. Cheers!
@EvrydayErik Hey, Erik! I'm thinkin the same night as the episode is probably the perfect time to upload, but I think the following day wouldn't hurt either. Just saw the one you uploaded last night right after we watched the episode, and we thought the episode was a bit of a snoozer as well. You may need an extra cocktail and some extra time by the pool to make up for the time you spent with Ahsoka on vacation. That's some dedication right there. Enjoy the rest of the vacation, man 👍
Yo Erik! I liked this episode too…I still thought Sabine’s scenes were pretty boring. I don’t know what it is? Maybe it’s her not so great acting or the overall pace of her scenes but I find my self wanting to fast forward haha. Ray Stevenson and his apprentice’s scenes were easily the best parts of the whole episode. I really like both of their characters. Thrawn looked like he’s had one too many beers too 😂 but yeah overall I thought it was decent enough! This Show has definitely become more watchable since the first couple of episodes. SEE YOU!…ON THE NEW 🚀. Have a good week dude!
That’s the best way to put it, the show is definitely watchable. I think that should be our new standard. I always do my hot take right after watching the show, so maybe I’m excited that it’s actually watchable. I didn’t like rebels, so I’m interested. I was watching Friday night tights and they’re making fun of Thrawn’s beer belly. I get it, I kind of saw him is an older Thrawn that isn’t as polished as he once was. I think Lars is acting well. But it is such a shame that Ray Stevenson has passed away. His character is super interesting, although I think it might be similar to the cloned Jedi in the Timothy Zahn books. I’m kind of bummed. There’s only two episodes left. Hopefully they ramp up the chemistry between Sabine and Ezra, we need romantic relationships back in Star Wars. See you late Tuesday night.
I liked it but I wish the writing and acting was a bit better
Yeah, I hear you, it’s serviceable. I think Lars Mikkelsen and Ray Stevenson are definitely standouts.
Hey Erik! I stopped watching Ahsoka because I started watching ‘one piece’ on Netflix. Have you seen it?! It’s incredible!!! Great characters that drive the story and it’s written beautifully with themes of finding yourself and following your dreams plus friendship and family. Imagine if Disney made the Star Wars shows like that!! It’s actually super interesting how this one piece series beats every Disney show x1000
So, I started watching the first episode of one piece. The pirate lady in the pink pirate ship scared me off and I quit. I have a bunch of people telling me that the show gets really good so I’ll definitely give it another shot. I’m hearing it is really good. Thanks for sharing your recommendation!
Three good episodes in a row!
Yeah, the first three were weak in my opinion, but the last three I enjoyed. I’m looking forward to the next one!
I have seen it twice now. First time I saw it I gave it a 4/10. I did not have fun watching it. The weird looking Stormtroopers, the chanting, and the weird crustaceans. It was early in the morning, and I was probably just grumpy and tired.
Second time I watched it, it grew on me. I now give it 8/10. It feels like Shin Hati will be "redeemed". She is showing doubt, and Baylan is more like a zealot.
Maybe Ezra and Shin will hook up? I am fine with that as long as she survives!
I don't want to see a repeat of the Jedi Knight game where there is this guy called Yun, who is eerily like Shin, that redeems himself in the end but is killed by his master. Please don't kill Shin, Baylan.
Also, I like the little creatures. Seeing them evoked some of the feeling I had watching Willow from 1988. There is a magic to it, that really resonates with my inner child.
I am carefully optimistic. However, I just don't get it. Where was all this talent when they made the other shows?
I think I remember Yun, (it’s been a while) and you’re right. It’s so weird, they could’ve just made all the expanding universe Cannon. All of this Disney Star Wars makes me want to go and read all the old novels again and play the old games. Lucasfilm keeps stealing things from them. I mean, where is Mara jade?! Basically every comment I’ve made since the last Jedi Has to be put in perspective. I’m not saying this is great classic Star Wars, but this is better than most of the other garbage we’ve been getting. I did enjoy rebels, so I’m interested. They need to quit fooling around and get Sabine and Ezra together as a couple. But no one’s allowed to have relationships in Disney Star Wars. I’m thinking I’ll have a live stream the Saturday morning after the finale, I’m sure we’ll have a lot to talk about. I have an idea for the next time now, it’s gonna be pretty hot.
All in favor of Kathleen Kennedy night sister, witch thumbnail next week? 🙋♂️
We’ll I had something spicier in mind for next week, I’ll be at the Hard Rock pool (But good call!)🤔
This has been such a terrible series, especially this episode; but, at least you found something to like about it. As much as I like the Thrawn Trilogy, having read it makes me even more pissed at Dave Filoni and his shows. Timothy Zahn writes circles around Dave Filoni (as low as that bar is).
Hey, I hear what you’re saying. I really like the Thrawn trilogy and wish they would’ve made that as the sequels. It’s a crime we don’t have a live action Mara jade. So I guess I’m looking at this show compared to all the other Disney shows. Comparing all the Disney shows, yes, I did like this. But I’ve prefaced all my reviews by saying none of this matters until they fix Jake Skywalker. So I do hear you, I agree. But this episode did make me wanna buy some action figures.
Beautiful and creative? No.
Maybe I’ve watched terrible Star Wars for so long, this is looking a little better? 🤷♂️ I’m not overthinking it, but I liked this week.
@@EvrydayErik It’s all the same shit. “Don’t think, consume.” That is the definition of Disney’s Star Wars.
I get the feeling thrawns stormtroopers dont miss
Lol, I don’t know, we’re just gonna have to wait and see. They better not miss!
