Geez, just realised this has only gotten more relevant over time.
Yep, because humans have short memories and we've evolved to think first of ourselves, secondly for our "tribe", and only after that do most of us consider other people. We have to keep learning the same lessons over and over before they finally start to sink in. We can change but it takes time, sometimes more than just one lifetime.

this song came out 3 years after 911 and during those years the US was bombing Afghanistan and doing really harmful stuff (which the US has been doing to many other countries too) and that was also one of the problems they mentioned in this song, that's important to remember

Fantastic relevant song for all time. My son adores BEP and Will.i.am. He's autistic but braved going with me to see them live in London. He had the best night of his life. He hand wrote a letter to Will, took him two weeks to write it with his difficulties. Not had a reply yet sadly.

As a guy who wasn't really into Black Eyed Peas, I still got to say this song is just pure pop perfection. Still gives me chills when JT sings the chorus when you realize how barely nothing has changed regarding the message of the song.

Finally! I have been asking and asking and asking for this one! Sad but true that this is still so relevant that it could have been made last year rather than so long ago. This song just hits the nail on the head. Don't get me wrong they do some songs that would make you BLUSH (My Humps). They are amazing. wii.i.am has collaborated with so many people and is amazingly talented as it Fergie when she went solo. Love Black Eyed Peas but especially this song because it just touches your heart like I said.

I think this song is more relevant today then it was when it was written.
This is the part you mentioned, one of the best parts of the song

Another of my favorite lines in the song is at the end where they say "We only have one world" and the only thing I would add to that is and we all share it together, we also have only one chance to live the life we are blessed with and too often we waste it on hate and division rather than making the most of what so precious little time we have coming together and appreciating our differences instead of discriminating each other because of them.
I'm not a huge Black Eyed Peas fan, but I recognize great songs from groups that I might not like in general, and I absolutely adore this song, one of my favorites from its era.
You should definitely listen to more from them. They pumped out hits for like 14 years straight.

I keep forgetting that I'm not a normal human in that I listen to music by every style of artist from every culture and ethnicity in every country. I forget that there are people who it just doesn't occur to to go looking for old or different music.

I've never known what genre to put Black Eyed Peas in, and find I don't care: This is my favorite song of theirs, for the same reason it resonated with J. Where's the love? Look in the mirror, cause you have to have self love before you can give it to another.
