Steve Madden is the face of the largest women’s shoe business the world has ever seen. In the early 1990’s, he started his business with $1,100 and turned it into a 2 billion dollar per year revenue. As the business grew, his side deals with Jordan Belfort drew the attention of the FBI and in 2002, he pled guilty to federal charges. Since then, his business has grown bigger than ever.
Watch as Joe meets with Madden at his Manhattan storefront and sits down in his private clubhouse for an in depth conversation. He takes us back to his childhood, growing up with Attention deficit disorder, family issues, struggles with drugs and alcohol, relationship with the Wolf of Wall Street, and his time in federal prison.
This is the third installment of Humans, a new talk series where Joe interviews some of the most unique people in the world to shed light on their one in a million experiences. Humans aims to show viewers people with unbelievable stories that only they could live through.

What I love about this interview is no matter how much joe tried to downplay his crime, he always said “yeah but I did it and I was wrong”. That is a man that takes accountability for his actions and doesn’t make excuses for what he did. You can tell that he is truly remorseful 🙏🏾.

They did talk about ADD in the 70s. My mother was a mental health worker and that she was very versed in it. As her child had ADD, what do I mean had, I still have it. I was prescribed medication and she would not put me on medication because she really felt that kids that started on these drugs would become drug addicts later and try to self medicate. Many of her clients that were drug users were those that were diagnosed with ADD at some point in their life and these are grownups I would imagine by that timeline That mental health professionals and psychologist knew about ADD and Ritalin way before that.

This interview showed me that Steve Madden was destined for greatness since birth, despite the hardships he’s detailed. Imagine being a kid from humble beginnings, with Attention Deficient Disorder in the 1970’s, to be able to bond with his father over golf, a game that is “90% mental” is simply….unbelievable! I need to find what Country Club he played at so I can hopefully join and get inspired.
