The meaning of life is such an interesting topic, and my favorite topic from my philosophy class literally called The Human Situation. Religion and philosophy is filled with people trying to determine what is the meaning of life. Humans have used religion to give life some sort of meaning (alongside explaining the unexplainable, etc) because what is the point of living without a higher meaning. I always favored the idea that the meaning of life is the endless search for those fleeting moments you want to never end (I think this idea was expressed in King Lear?). Some philosophers of course just say there is no meaning and are okay with that, and I am for the most part but you still kinda need some sort of drive.
I think another reason for bottle episodes besides budged saving is essentially "story saving" as in when the amount of story doesn't quite match the number of episodes that need to be made an episode with a self contained story is made instead of stretching one episode worth of the main story over two episodes and padding it. People regularly complain about "slow" episodes, which can be due to that, and a bottle episode could have been a better solution.
I'm so confused. Trott goes from "there are more people dead, then there are alive" @24:36 to laughing about the solar and lunar eclipse bit from their last video. What was cut?
That Geek You Know i don’t think anything was cut, trott said the whole “there are more people dead than there are alive” and they start laughing bc it’s a bit of a stupid statement. this reminds them of the “earth casting a shadow on the sun” comment from the other video because it was a very very stupid statement that they got away with lol , although trott’s dead vs alive comment was technically true
If you're drifting through space for infinity you'll probably go brain dead after a while because of the lack of stimuli. Nothing to see, nothing to hear, nothing to touch. People go insane from just being in isolation for a couple of days, imagine hundreds if not thousands of years of that but worse. Also obligatory "So eventually, he stopped thinking" reference.
27:20 This is the same way I think. I don't think there's a heaven or a hell but *eventually* we'll come back around whether we remember or not. Maybe we've all done this before... spooky
Yeah those metal rods things were believed over here in the states. Learned about it when I was a kid. The adult explaining it to me at the time knew it was PROBABLY bs lol
Well the discussion of what comes after death, combined with my personal belief that there is nothing, does creep me out, so this episode was appropriately spoopy for me, haha, but after this discussion, I'm also really glad I'm not immortal XD Also, those shirts are so coooool and cute!! I so don't have any money, but I waaant one!!!!
Smiff talks about matter without connecting how it relates with the actual fabric of the universe, which is matterless in a sense right? Actual "space" which we see evidenced through gravity wave detection is like invisible jelly that matter forms shapes in
xXIcariaXx In terms of comparing time that has already passed. If you’re 10 years old and you spend “A whole year” doing something it feels huge. A tenth of your whole existence. 50 years later looking back, it’s been condensed. Not just because it was so long ago, but because it makes up only 1/60th of your life. Time is relative. Rate of time passing is affected by gravity and speed. But our perception of chunks of duration of time is relative to what we know.
Goddamn it was so infuriating for them to dismiss the paranormal. I myself have had an experience with a paranormal thing and it forever changed my perspective on life
I don't doubt that you think you had a paranormal experience and if it helped change your life for the better, that's great. *And* you have to understand, there has never been evidence for anything paranormal in real life; whatever you experienced can be explained without recourse to magic. I encourage you to approach your beliefs with honest, scientific scepticism. In my experience, living in reality is much more fulfilling.
Ben Rowe you say there has never been evidence but there’s copious amounts of it. Just because you haven’t experienced something like that for yourself doesn’t make it untrue. Your truth is not the only truth in a world full of billions of people with billions of different experiences. I am not religious, I am not a believer in magic, but just because you can’t explain things doesn’t make them possible. Humans are too stupid to understand a lot of aspects of the unknown. That’s why they’re unknown and need further explanation. My experience personally was so moving that it forever changed how I saw in life. Before I saw it as just merely a meaningless existence in a meaningless world, and then you die and cease to exist. Much like these bloaks and I assume you. However after my experience in my old childhood home it made me realize that life is eternal. No matter and no energy can truly be destroyed. Things and people from the past are still present in our world too just in different form
@@canyoncabrera692 I can't speak to your experience, because I don't know all the details of it, but I can tell you that-whatever you think happened-there's an explanation for it which doesn't rely on the paranormal. If you really do believe that you have copious evidence for the existence of anything supernatural, I suggest you publish it. You'd probably win a Nobel Prize for such a discovery.
Ben Rowe I just hope that one day you experience something that is unexplainable to really put everything you think you know about life into question. And I didn’t bother giving you details because you already have a preconceived notion about who I am, a “crazy”, and anything I would tell you would just be dismissed. Not worth the time
"I like weird horror films like Midsommar"
"have you seen it?"
"no"
nice one alan
Really interesting to hear about Smith's LARP story, usually when I go into the wood with six strangers its for something else.

Accidents carry no purpose.
I love that Trott has also been watching Mykies series.
Really loved this episode! You guys are so philosophical
Try hards

26:27 That is not what heat death means Smith

The immortal life thing reminded me of Firepunch, they should have a read.
45:30
for a few seconds. I considered suicide to be a good idea.

Sounds like Smith's been reading (or should) Sartre's "Existentialism is a Humanism"
that scary jumpscare wasnt funny craiggle dont do it again
Luckily for space traveling immortal beings you can’t just create angular acceleration in a closed system the closed system being you and your knob.
Smith have you heard of Dr.Stone?
Ghost shows really are a prime example of inductive reasoning
Do rooster eggs not give birth to basilisk?
Surprised they haven't done a "back in time with tech--WITCH!!" video for that pc they're advertising :D
that tiny egg isn't that uncommon. i have a chicken farm and i have had a few of those before...i dont think it was the rooster....

Apu was not rasist
Ferris was his last name.
Wheel was his first name.
How high did you get during your recent tour of the marijuana industry in the states?
Smiffy should see The Lighthouse
Hello
If youre 60 why doesn't the rest of your life pass in the blink of an eye? Is smith saying at 52 a year feels like a week...?

aww do the accent, if one accent is racist then all of them are
UA-cam won't let me thumbs up the comment 🤔
How is this not doing so much better
Likely because a lot of people listen to it on other podcast platforms.
fk me this was a great one
Smith has a loose grasp on the heat death of the universe...
Also you can't start spinning in a vacuum
