Metroid Prime 2 Pre-Dark Aether Walkthrough Part 1: Splinter Hive, Great Temple, Agon Wastes

  • Walkthrough notes:
    *Hive Chamber B Dark Samus Cutscenes will be skipped.
    *Areas where light-aether like places is impossible. (since they can only had original lighting).
    *Cheats will be used when there is no other choice (for example all inventory) and at very difficult parts to preserve my sanity.
    *Many things (enemies, communicator, etc...) behave weirdly when dark enemies is spawned in some areas. They only trigger alert where Samus is in front of the enemy. I can do nothing about this, most actors were never meant to interact upon Dark Aether. I will try to handle this issue in a funny way.

    Bro I am so happy that you're still working on this. This is the coolest shit I ever seen. I really like how you switched out the Dark Trooper theme with the Ing Battle theme, that adds a lot to the atmosphere.
    I like that you hashed the dynamic of the dark splinters and the dark troopers together. I feel like the vanilla version of the game separates the two too much. I feel you successfully mended the two enemies in a singular environment.
    3:21 - that was really cool
    15:43 - this room looks so bad ass now because of the skybox.
    19:00 i love the music switch up for this battle, this is so bad ass.

    For the love of Emperor Ing, you have no idea how happy I am to see this !!! And I was really shocked to see how recent this video was, I thought it was something from long time ago, what a funny thing I found this so soon ! This is like a dream slowly coming true, because I always hoped to have more Dark Aether stuff (I'd cry if one day a "Dark" mod exist, where Samus is possessed by the Ing and you destroy the Luminoths).
    I'm not expecting any answers, but just in case I have any, I'd like to share some things about what I saw so far, and also asking questions, because this is new for me and I'm very curious and want to learn more about your project. Maybe I'll ask stupid things, so I'm sorry in this case (also, it's... PRETTY LONG... sorry, I was way too much into it lmao) :
    - Sad the lightning can't be changed. While your Dark Aether areas are lacking darkness (at least there's still the fog), Aether ones are too dark.
    - It's funny how you changed a lot of doors to dark doors, considering most doors stay blue even in normal Dark Aether :P BUT sad the map isn't taking this into consideration and still show the normal colors (and the map is also not Dark Aether color)
    - Why so many Ingworm Caches ? I was surprised at first to see them instead of the Bladepods, but then I saw the Bladepods where outside with Ingworm Caches. Still wonder about why there was such a big amount lol (I suspect you just replaced the GF and Luminoths crates without removing any)
    - I like that there's so many Dark Splinters in the Splinter hive area. We could act like the Dark Splinters resist the gas used by the GF soldiers, explaining why the regular ones are all dead, when the dark ones are all alive.
    - Would it be possible to replace the webs you removed by Weblings ? Maybe not everywhere there was the webs, but maybe like the one hidding a Missile Expansion in the Agon elevator room. Would be nice imo to have a Webling there to protect the Missile Expansion. It would also add more dark enemies instead of just the Dark Splinters (was hoping to see more Darklings like Dark War Wasps).
    - 1:29 I instantly saw the complete lack of big door. While it could just have been open, no, I saw it was literally missing. And I really liked that. Differences is something I'm greatly looking for, so everytime I saw something you changed, I was very interested !
    - 3:22 This was so satisfying to watch. I never use Sunburst because it's too slow, but damn, for this, I'm on it !
    - I know you prevented the Portal Site cutscene because, let's be honest, it would have been kinda weird ( especially if the sky can't be changed, but in teh end idk)... but damn I wish it can be possible one day to actually have a Dark Splinter Hive area... and I know it's possible to move inside this Portal Site room (it even still have the blue door, the GF big door, and the 2 morph ball tunnels, probably because they are not really visible during the cutscene, so no reason to change all the shape of the room for that 1 cutscene).
    - Is it possible to change the textures of some things, especially enemies ? I'm very curious to see how you would change a light creature textures to make it look like a Darkling to fit more your Dark Aether (or add an explanation on how they managed to adapt to Dark Aether via scanning).
    - 5:34 Interesting choice to add the Dark Venom Weeds to ""block"" the lower path. It's so freaking unfortunate it's not possible to change the rooms geometry currently... Like for this situation, I would have added a Dark Water pool there as an obstacle to reach the Power Bomb Expansion.
    - 7:36 Will your objective be to remove entirely the cutscene and still make the Dark Splinters spawning ? Or maybe the Dark Splinters could be there already, and many of them, to fit a little the big attack that killed all the GF soldiers ?
    - 10:27 No battle ? Interesting. Why that choice, tho ?
    - White doors before U-Mos, that's a nice touch considering the amount of dark doors ^^
    - 10:50 Was really expecting the light energy to be red :P And U-Mos to looks like a Darkling lol Tho, was surprised the text wasn't changed. Could be interesting to change dialogues to fit the actual situation of your mod.
    - 15:43 100% agree with Courdell right there. This room is so much more cool looking with the Dark Aether skybox !
    - I was surprised to see there was still Agon Bearerpods when you entered Mining Plaza tbh
    - Why 3 Sandiggers in the first ground place of Mining Plaza, but still only 1 for the second one ?
    - 18:04 Did the game crashed ?
    - 19:10 Ngl I was expecting at least Dark Pirates because of the music change
    - Ok, for the Bomb Guardian, the music change completely caught me off guard. I'm so used to the normal one that it felt wrong on every level for me xD
    - 21:49 YES. YES. THIS. I love how the room is without the rotating thing ! It felt like a completely new place !
    - 27:42 Why was I hoping for a purple beam when I knew it would stay a light beam xD Damn sunlight is so strong it can cross dimension and break the darkness to activate a portal. I also guess swapping the light/dark portal models isn't possible, and same thing with the teleportation when taking it ?
    - 29:15 Omg this is the first time I realise the hand model is still the Varia Suit !
    - Interesting that light bubbles don't exist visually in Aether (but logical). Tho, I wonder... would it be possible to remove them all, and put them strategically in Dark Aether to make it possible to travel without the Light Suit ? Like, for Temple Grounds, when you enter the Splinter hive, it could be a light "tower" where Samus appears to prevent any damage from the atmosphere (or even just a regular light crystal because Samus usually don't react to the atmosphere during cutscenes), and you could put light bubbles in a correct space to not die. Or maybe it's impossible to change them at all ? :(
    - Was surprised to see Bladepods, Inglets and Nightbarbs in Aether. Is it not possible to force Inglets, Warrior Ing, etc... into Dark Aether, and light creatures into Aether ?
    - 29:58 Wait... Why does the map doesn't exist anymore ? I found it curious it was still orange when you entered Aether (but it was what I wanted so screw attack it), but not existing in the next room ? S:|
    Should be all ! :D I'm really excited to see more of this, you 100% got my attention right there !

    im confused as to what this mod is aiming to accomplish- it says "pre-dark aether" but wouldnt that mean there wouldnt be anything suggesting dark aether exists??
