First Snowfall of the Season at Gangotri! | Gaumukh-Tapovan Trek | Indiahikes | Oct 2021

- It's been raining incessantly for the past two days on almost all our treks in Uttarakhand. Today, we even saw the first snowfall of the season at Gangotri! We expect similar snowfall at all altitudes above 11,000 ft.
Weather experts have said that the rain and snow is a result of an interaction between a Western Disturbance (which usually brings snowfall to India) and the Easterlies (blowing in from a low pressure system in the Bay of Bengal).
The first Western Disturbance seems to have arrived right on time, and is expected to bring rain and snow over the next 1-2 days. The weather is expected to get clear from October 20th onwards.
Even though there is a good deposit of snow, it's something that will not stick for more than a week.
