I have a 606NT Great Plains that I use for food plots and pasture. This drill is not a no till as it doesn't have the coulter blades in front of the openers. It is a HD drill which has the heavy frame. It will work in pastures due to the heavier weight. Just add more pressure to the down force springs. You were right in letting the cows graze down the pastures. I have had trouble in the past cutting through the thick matted grasses even with my drill and it has 600 pounds of ballast weights on it. Rye and rye grass will lay in the dry dirt and wait for moisture. Sometimes you just have to wait...

Looking forward to see the results. I remember we sometimes went thru with a disc harrow setup basically straight to have very minimal ground opening/disturbance with broadcast spreader pulled behind for the seeds. This was when we didn't have access to the no till drill machinery like this but it let some of the seed penetrate the ground a little in those tracks. Not perfect but pretty good results as I recall. Hope you get some of the rain in the forecast for next week in our area.

Hope you get that rain! Great idea with grazing it short to let the no till do it’s work easier. We’re supposed to get rain Tuesday. Don’t know if it will do much good since we’ve had a few freezes already. It’s back in the 70s now for the foreseeable future so we’ll see.

I’m not using chemical fertilizer on my spring and summer pasture. I did put some nitrogen on the Elbon Rye though as I didn’t want to lose my investment. Need to do half with and half without next year and see what I get.
