The amount of arrogance and prejudices you need to have to have the audacity to call us "arrogant" and "annoying" for existing and trying to live authentically in a society that reinforces the flawed gender binary ideology. Imagine if someone said: "Disabled people are so arrogant for wanting accommodations and access. It’s so annoying that they can’t just deal with society the way it is, like everyone else." You'd rightly call them ableist. You apply this logic to other diverse communities targeted for systemic oppression, such as racially diverse people, older people, the rest of the SROGIESC+ (LGBTQIA2S+) community, those with intersecting identities, etc.
I have bad news about how people treat disabled people. My dad will use they/them for me before he allows me to use disability aids in his house. He thinks I need to just "stop being a baby and figure it out (or else)". And he's FAR from an isolated case. Don't even get me STARTED on my experience working.
I have autism and I hear assholes at my school basically saying that all autistic people are stupid. It was last year when that happened once, the mf also said “I don’t discriminate, I hate on *-every minority group-*.” I can’t exactly remember what they said but it was disgusting to hear. Mind you I heard it in an ADVANCED class, meaning I, a person WITH autism, was there, too.
I just don’t get how changing your pronouns to “they” is supposed to change what’s expected of you by society. If anything, doesn’t it just reinforce the thought that anyone with binary pronouns has to act according to the implications of their gender?
@@currently_dead As someone has been perceived fully as a woman, a man, and a nonbinary person before on separate occasions, you would be shocked by the sheer amount of difference that it makes. Like, it's night and day. It's insane. We can't deconstruct the concept of gender as a whole overnight, so this is the best we got.
1 note, some people are non-binary as a rejection of categories (agender/xenogender enbies and the like, usually) while some enbies do use the label as a kind of "3rd option" for themselves.
I hate this when people say I hate non-binary people or trans when these people are actually expressing themselves and being themselves and when I hate how people just hate them because they just exist this also remind me of how Nur divergent people have interest in people make fun of them for that it doesn’t help that people just judge without experience themselves god I wish people understand that more
I used to think this way before I discovered I was nonbinary. I think the main reason I felt that is because I was convinced you had to choose male or female. And that you couldn’t just decide to be neither because society is ingrained with those ideals and you’re ‘breaking the rules’ by being nonbinary. I saw it as like… people just trying to get attention because their identity was just some stupid idea they made up to try and break the rules. I’m glad i dont think that way anymore but I can understand why transphobes think that based on my own growing + learning experience.
I completely agree with you. You actually made me think about how people could think about the non-binary identity as stupid or weird. It’s probably just because they weren’t thinking far enough or they didn’t research anything. I think you meant to say “girl or boy/man or woman” at the start, male and female are biological sexes, not identities! Example (if you don’t get what I’m saying): I’m a guy but I was born with female reproductive organs.
@@Jasperx333 that is technically what I meant, but back then, I wouldn’t have seen a difference between those things. I literally thought you could only choose to be male or female. And that meant identity and assigned sex at birth, because to transphobes they are the same thing. You apparently can’t identify as anything other than the strict set of rules, female in mind and body, or male in mind and body. Also it was a combination of not having researched it, but also being discouraged from researching it by other transphobes around me.

This! That explanation is why I'm nonbinary! It's a rejection of society demanding to define me.

People say that about disabled people all of the time. Is it still ableist? Yes, extremely, but it’s very common unfortunately.
