Omg I nearly cried when I watched this, it's incredible. Bridport is my home and has been for my entire life, I love it so much. Now I'm living away from there and I miss it, this just took me back to some of my favourite nights from my hometown, I can't even describe this! Thank you for making it, Stephen Banks.
Ashley highlighted this to us - so pleased to see this film - its fantastic, and the music you chose to run with it is incredible - it gives a sense of beauty, and rapture to the entire piece - Congratulations - Lyn and Graham - will share for you, hope you reach your target, the sky's the limit!
Thank you lovely film...I’m in the cottage on beach with light on. Well done . We love the night skies here in the bay. 50 years ago hardly any bright lights in bay but council.insist on better street lights.
Amazing video, i just found it on facebook via a friend, i come from bridport and grew up there,my mum still lives there and i miss it alot, this shows just how beautiful it is. one of my favourite places on earth. x
1:21 -1:25...the time-lapse really gives it this awesome vibration effect that I would see in a dubstep or drum n bass video..so badass..LOVED all of it!
Wow thats incredible, youve captured a real emotion in this and obviously put a lot of work into it. Thanks for making me appreciate bridport and dorset for the wonderful place it is.
Amazing. Particularly like the shot of [East/West?] cliff, West Bay - sorry I was never much good at navigation! Well done & look forward to more videos.
Thank you Amy. Having lived in Liverpool for most of my life, I think Bridport is an absolutely lovely place. There are bits that have problems, as with any place. I wouldn't fancy making Skilling by Night, but the bits in this film are my favourite places, of which there are many.
I moved to Bridport from Croydon 7 years ago, and I can say without a doubt, there is nowhere I would rather be. At first I was apprehensive but now, I know I couldn't leave it.
This is unbelievable!!! Born and bread in Bridders, and I never seen it like this.. absolutely stunning well done :) very talented. studied photography & film at Uni so i know how hard this is!!!! very impressed. it's been flying around facebook lately so we keep posting it around to get you noticed :) :) well done xx
Hi;-) My husband (maybe) will get a job ( next week) very close to Bridport....maybe all our family will follow him next year...It is good to know that this place is so worth to be.....fell in love in;) Boshka from Ireland
This is an amazing piece of film making, it's shot so well and the composition is really impressive. Generally really impressed by this. I'm really into film making and photography myself, so I know how much work goes into a piece of work like this. I'm keen to have a look at your other work now! :)
@umboodybanksie I'm away at uni in Southampton, and I miss Bridport so much! I come back occasionally for weekends but it's not the same. Are you going to do more videos like this? I can't wait for the extended version, and Dorset By Night sounds amazing too :D
heh same here dude, thanks for showing me this, just showed my mum and dad, you do find some great stuff mate :) and @umboodybanskie you got some serious talent man, its so refreshing to see bridport like this, i live but 10 minutes away and ive never seen bridport quite like that!...what it would be to see the world through eyes such as those
@dorsetwatcher Thank you for the kind words. Unfortunately, ITV only offer the catchup service for local news programmes for 24 hours after it being aired. I have purchased the song from iTunes and linked to it in my description. What usually happens is that UA-cam stumble upon the video and slap an advert over the top of it and a "buy this track on iTunes" link below the view count. I haven't a clue how ITV got to use the track in the piece they did about it though!
@spencerh11 I absolutely love the backing track to that piece. Sends shivers down my spine it's so atmospheric! Thanks for pointing it out because I can now watch it again :)
Love it, thanks for sharing this stunning. I live on the river Dart and want a camera that I can do timelapse with desperately. What kit were you using? Thanks Tim
this is absolutely brilliant, you really capture bridport from a different point of view! i've done a few night lapses of bridport and colmers hill too on my channel... :)
Best bet is to find me on Facebook or Twitter and message me there. Search 'DorsetScouser Photography' on Facebook, or find me on Twitter here:@DorsetScouser
@whoatemymonkey Thank you very much! Where did you study? I went to Newport and was tempted to switch to the Documentary Photography course there. But stuck with graphic design and kept photography as a hobby. Probably never would have had the chance to do this for work if I was a photographer. Thank you for sharing it around. It's really building up the views :D
Hey there, sorry for the late reply. I'm lugging around a D7000, using iStopMotion and Final Cut Pro on the iMac. I think you can assemble image sequences together with Quicktime Pro, but dedicated stop motion software is much easier. Couldn't recommend any particular one for Windows, wouldn't know where to start I'm afraid!
@umboodybanksie Behind Downes Hall / Mountfield, there is a round walk that takes you onto the top of that hill, direct view of West Bay from there! Also from 'Monarch's Way' over the hill next to Colfox you get a STUNNING view of all Bothenhampton, Bridport, West Bay. And up @ Highland's End in Eype by the Mobile phone mast looking back inland towards Bridport or out toward Weymouth/Portland with West Bay in the foreground! @ the Top of Jessops Avenue/Lee Lane, looking across Conygar to Colmers
@whitehousehotel I would love to! Charmouth was my home village before I moved to Bridport. Well, Wootton Fitzpaine, so close enough. Once I've passed my test and got a car, I will do a Charmouth by Night video :)
@Therowleyclan Any dSLR should be able to pull off similar stills with the manual setting, bumping the ISO up to something like 1,600, and leaving the shutter open for 10-30 seconds. Then you need to get an external remote control for the interval timing. Third party makes and models will set you back around £30 for the digital versions (which is what I'd recommend), or Canon own brand one (probably around £100). And a tripod, of course - nothing too fancy though. Happy shooting!
@jimmayhugz Thank you :). It was gloriously edited by reporter Duncan and filmed beautifully by cameraman Steve. Big thanks to them. Be sure to spread the video amongst your friends. I have a target for this video to hit 12,977 views (see why in the description), but going further would be awesome :)
Hi, awesome time lapse from a fellow Bridportonian!! What video/photo editing software do you use to make your time lapse videos. I'm pretty much only just starting out in the DSLR world, using a Nikon D5100. I have the free software that comes with the camera to tweak images but want some software for making the actual video. Have you had any dealings with Quick Time Pro for Windows? Or can you recommend any others? Thanks!
@grannywheels2 Ah, thought I'd ask out of curiosity - I have a friend on holiday there. I'll definitely bear that in mind if I or any of my friends fancy going out there :). Cheers, looks like tonight's a good night. Moon and venus in alignment :)
@cocoamedia Surprisingly no dolly kit. Because the individual stills of the video were so large, all I had to do on the 'moving' shots was export the video higher than 1080p, and animate the video across a 1080p canvas, thus giving the illusion of smooth movement on a dolly. The D7000 comes with an intervalometer, so it takes one shot every set amount of time. Shot 12, for example, had 30 second exposures every 35 seconds, so it took over an hour and a half to get 6 seconds of video footage.
@MartinSlosh Problem is with larger towns and cities, you get a lot of noise pollution. Even in sleepy Bridport, believe it or not, it's impossible to get decent shots of the stars in the middle of town, and much further out when the rugby and football grounds have their lights on... I've already been approached by people for potential new work, so it's going well :)
@SuperGrahamw Thank you for your kind words. The target was passed today thanks to Wessex FM, but a spot of sharing won't do any harm :) Much appreciated!
@dorsetwatcher Thank you very much :). I was very lucky with the boat because it wasn't there for very long (only about a week or so I think) and it was lit by street lighting at the end of that side of the harbour. Ideal really :) and one of my favourite shots from the piece. For shot 12, for example, I was standing with the camera for over 90 minutes. I want to be able to camp out in the summer and do much longer exposures though...
@williamday247 A couple of the West Bay shots are of East Cliff (or at least that's what I think it's called). If I were to do a Charmouth version, Golden Cap would definitely feature!
@101egbert This was surprisingly done in iMovie 09, bundled with Mac OS X. I would have used Final Cut Pro, but I started the project as an experiment in iMovie, and it just about kept on going until the end. I did need to duck out the last bit of the music, but I did that in the free programme Audacity, before re-importing that track into iMovie.
@natamagat Thanks! Yes, a lot of standing out in the freezing cold. Some of the first shots I got were during the 'Indian Summer' we had in October, but most of it was shot in December and January.
@calumcroft Well, there's room for improvement, so I'll be heading out over the next few months to get some improved shots. And when I finally do get a car, I'll be doing a whole Dorset by Night video :)
I saw the article about your video in the Bridport News. An article on the next page is about my music video that I'm promoting. I studied in Liverpool for 3 years, so we have another connection there. My video's on my channel: Douglas Dare - London's Rose. From one Artist inspired by Bridport, to another. P.S I love the video and have shared it everywhere!
@BrixhamSeaSchool That's okay. I'm using a Nikon D7000, a good sturdy tripod (although it has just broken so I'm not going to recommend it) and a Tokina 11-16mm ultra wide lens. The D7000 has something called an intervalometer, which allows it to take a photo every set number of seconds. Therefore you can stick it on a tripod and leave the camera to it!
@DomHuxley It's in the editing. Panning across a larger video in a 1920x1080 canvas. I want to get a dolly at some point soon, but not sure if it would blur some of the longer exposures...
I come back to this video time after time, year after year, when I need to unwind. Thank you!
Wow, iv only just seen this beautiful video... This is my gorgeous homeland too. What an amazing video!
WE LOVE IT! Have watched many times and shared it with friends, family and children in class. It has gone viral in Bridport! Thank you x
A labour of love indeed. A really lovely film. Makes you remember all the reasons why we all love the place so much. Well done.
Lovely portrayal of the town I was born in and and still live in 37 years later! FAB!
Just beautiful .....makes me feel very nostalgic, born in Bridport, but not living there now, especially love West Bay and the cliff takes ....
This is a lovely film of a place I think of most days and have already returned to to live in many of my dreams. Thanks for making and posting it.

What a wonderful video . Thank you for making the world a little bit better.
Speechless....this is beautiful, deserves a lot of recognition
This actually made one of my most despised towns seem nice. Absolutely stunning work.
Amazing video, i just found it on facebook via a friend, i come from bridport and grew up there,my mum still lives there and i miss it alot, this shows just how beautiful it is. one of my favourite places on earth. x
Stunning. You are very gifted. Beautiful music accompagnement
1:21 -1:25...the time-lapse really gives it this awesome vibration effect that I would see in a dubstep or drum n bass video..so badass..LOVED all of it!
Great choice of music as well, it really makes it come alive
I can't stop watching this, I'm trying to give it as most exposure as i can through various social networking site.
This is brilliant Stephen. Clearly a lot of work went into making this, impressive result.
Wow thats incredible, youve captured a real emotion in this and obviously put a lot of work into it.
Thanks for making me appreciate bridport and dorset for the wonderful place it is.
Beautiful. Your hard work has paid off - this is a fantastic short film with some awe inspiring shots. Well done :-)
very creative and atmospheric beautiful and the music...
Thank you :)
Just got back home to Bridport for the easter holidays, I've missed it here! And this video still gets me all emotional :P
This actually makes Bridport look really nice, huge contrast to what it's really like!
Amazing. Particularly like the shot of [East/West?] cliff, West Bay - sorry I was never much good at navigation! Well done & look forward to more videos.
I'm so proud to live in Bridport. SO beautiful

Really nice photography of the surrounds and abouts in Port. Keep up the sweet work dude!
Well Done, I have grown up in Bridport. A really nice representation and good video!
amazing!!! makes me miss home and wish I was back in the shire.
This is ******* amazing. Utterly speechless.

Excellent piece of filming. Well done.
This is great Stephen, really enjoyed it.
That is amazing, Who new Bridport could be that beautiful :3 ♥
Great job Stephen.. would love to hear what other kit you used (dolly, timer etc)..
Awesome! I seriously need to learn how to do this with my camera!
Wow nice! D7000 is a great camera as well. Wish to have one.
@darcotics Glad that you enjoyed it. I've only been here for one year and I didn't know if I was doing the town justice...

That is really good.Come and do Charmouth next!!

@huntergatherer32 Thank you. Version 2 is already in the making. Lovely clear sky tonight. I ventured to West Bay, then Loders!
Thank you :). I know I can't afford one, but I'm eyeing up the D800 now. Incredible performance!
Nice one, that is smashing.
Love it, thanks for sharing this stunning. I live on the river Dart and want a camera that I can do timelapse with desperately. What kit were you using? Thanks Tim
Maybe we should think about doing a night run? Very inspring.
this is absolutely brilliant, you really capture bridport from a different point of view! i've done a few night lapses of bridport and colmers hill too on my channel... :)
Stephen this is just amazing you really are a talented photographer,,,, I'm making one of Lyme Regis right now and would love some pointers, thanks

lovely video, beautiful music, can anyone tell me what the music is please?
@TheTomhyde Thank you very much! I plan to do a daytime series as well, but I'll have to wait until we get some better weather...
@DBDezigns Can't believe it! Really chuffed about that!
@cci007 Thank you Keith, glad you liked it and I hope it inspires you to get out there and try some time lapse starscapes for yourself :)

@AGWhiteman Ah, any dSLR camera! Yes, I definitely need to visit there next time it is a clear night. What are your other favourites? Cheers :)

@PepperandRafferty Thanks, glad you enjoyed watching it!
@Sphipsta What, Bridport? You should try somewhere like Toxteth :)
@MistressParamour Thank you for the kind words. Glad you enjoyed it and it brought back memories :)
also, i love the panning shots, do you have a moving tripod or is that edited?
@calumcroft Well, there's room for improvement, so I'll be heading out over the next few months to get some improved shots. And when I finally do get a car, I'll be doing a whole Dorset by Night video :)
