I really like your videos. I like that you talk at a medium to slower pace and almost never say “um”. I like that your voice is melodic without being shrill. I like hearing your thought process when making decisions; it helps me think about my decluttering decisions more carefully. I also like your videos with your mom. You might be the best decluttering mentor on UA-cam for the middle of the road non-minimal, non-hoarder person. Thank you! 😊

I love all your videos. After watching this video I declutterred my closet. It’s about the same size as your closet. My husband gets half. I put winter clothes away. All my clothes fit on my side. I have 27 pairs of shoes, that includes sandals and my slippers. My daughter-in-law wears one pair of croc black sandals every day. Even for special occasions. I wish I could be like her. I don’t have a lot of clothes and I wear all of my clothes. But I don’t seem to be able to declutter my shoe collection. I only carry one small black backpack as a purse. So no handbag obsession. Thank God! Thanks for inspiring me to declutter my closet.

My daughter decided to declutter her room this weekend and I can't believe how much she's found to part with in clothing. As she grows, we don't replace everything she declutters - so this naturally minimizes her wardrobe over time

I mostly only pack away winter things like big jackets because we only need them for such a short time where I live and we don’t have a coat closet. I keep all my clothes year round in my drawers and closet. I guess I prefer to have the current season stuff hanging because it’s easier to get to. 😊

I love the honesty on loosing weight after having babies and getting rid of things that don’t fit instead of keeping them and waiting for them to fit. I had a baby last year and I’ve started letting go of things that don’t fit while actively trying to lose some baby weight. I found that it’s keeping me from feeling sad and bad about myself. ❤

    • @shannontorrens1
      @shannontorrens1  6 місяців тому +7

Since Levi is my third baby I had a little bit of perspective behind my decisions. And I really think it's important to have some clothes that fit after we have babies. When I had my first I remember crying because nothing fit for so long and at the time I was weirdly against buying anything and I remember feeling terrible. Now I know eventually things will fit again it just takes time and if they never fit again that is ok too. ❤

Have you ever used the space saver bags to store items? Once you suck all the air out (using a vacuum) the bags are only a couple of inches high and stack on top of each other. The also have small ones to use for traveling! The bags save so much space and are very easy to maneuver.😎

We took the doors off our fitted wardrobes 20 years ago and have floor to ceiling net curtains. We first used net curtains over the mirror doors in a previous property and it looked so good, that it was one of the first things we did when we moved here. Actually, we were discussing whether to remove a few of our internal doors the other day, as we never use them.

Yes, you have a lot of clothes. But I think when you found your style and your body’s finished changing a lot (after babies) you really can add to your wardrobe. I am one of the „don’t purge, wear it out“ minimalists. So I still declutter slowly. But I already start adding clothes that fit to my current lifestyle and body (but will still fit when I lose a few pounds ;) ). Especially dresses will not wear out that much as jeans, go with minor weight changes and serve you many, many years when your able to switch between them regularly.

I have had a mixed experience with command hooks. In some cases they have worked great but other times they have done a lot of damage to the wall when we couldn't get them off. I have also had a few times where they fell off. I think because our walls have a thick texture they don't adhere very well.

I also would've chosen the gray curtains - since the fabric is a bit heavier they hang/fall (?) very nicely, their color matches quite well with the walls and there's no gap at the top as it was with the white ones.
Aside from that they make it look as if they'd been there from the beginning instead of the sliding doors. Using curtains with closets actually can be a style choice these days as well 🙂
It's great you were able "shop your home" and didn't have to buy new ones.
Grant makes it seem so easy when he repairs/transforms things around the house and it's always a change for the better!
PS: The light blue dress you were wearing at the end looks so nice on you, the color is very flattering and the style is cool 👍

I really like the curtains but another option could be doing 3 smaller sliding doors. 2 on the front slider and one on the back.

I like the updated closet! It'll be nice to be able to access the middle of the closet more easily now.

Wonderful idea to remove the closet doors. It looks great with the gray curtains

It looks great. Fitted wardrobes are always done in a way the under-utilises the space. We put a lower rod in our daughters and it’s been so nice for her to be able to access her own clothes.
Also - I know I won’t be the only one commenting on the lovely warmth from your husband. Those kisses 🥹

Thank you for the great ideas. I have a tiny closet in my room. I have 2 totes at the bottom for off-season clothes. I might try those bags with the zipper. Hopefully, it will fit better. The totes take up so much space.

Can you maybe do zippered under bed storage bags?

Shannon~ I love how you got so excited that (that) was the project for the day of doing the closet doors. I completely understand, and I think they look wonderful. This got me to thinking if Kathy ever replaced the cracked mirror/closet door in your old bedroom, ((smiles))
At timestamp 14:22, I recognized that dress because I had loved it. I thought drat if we were neighbors, you could declutter it to me LOL I understand about the armholes being too big. I often have my mom take those in. I always wonder why they make them that way.
I'm still decluttering one a day ( sometimes more!)and writing it down. If I had a youtube channel like you I would have a "box & a reason" all organized as well❤
The quick time when the camera zooms in on Levi on the bed w/ the hangers is precious. Aren't you SO happy you get to relive those years w/ a little one a third time? Look at me all sentimental....Now that our two kids are grown😊❤😢
I hope you have A wonderful Monday! This was fun to watch while I relaxed and did the bills.

Hello Julia, It's so nice to hear from you! I feel so lucky to have Levi =) I think since he is my third I know how fast they grow up and I try to savor all these moments. You will be happy to hear that my mom FINALLY replaced the broken mirror closet door. It just so happened that her neighbor who had the exact same closet door was getting rid of it and it fit perfectly! After 30 years finally, that mirrored door is replaced. We went over and helped her put it in. I hope you have a nice week. =)

Shannon, what a fun story about how Kathy's neighbor blessed her with that closet 🚪 door! Isn’t it nice to know that we can all look out for each other like that? And isn't it funny when they build houses, often some in a grouping will have the same finishings? Our house is identical to some others on our street. I would like it to stand out a bit so we've painted the shutters differently and have tried to add some curb appeal that makes us feel happy ( landscaping, window boxes). All of these little touches mean so much when you can enjoy your space.
I just remembered, in our last house we had the closet door situation just like you have now and we took our daughter's closet door off and put a curtain there. I just remembered that! She was about eleven years old at the time and into lime green And pink ha ha. So we made it be fun.
I also wanted to add that walk-in closets can be very Overrated imo when you live like we do with three dozen or so items total. Our house is is about 1450sq feet..but it seems much smaller bc they used up so much space on our closet. Seriously, it is like a very small bedroom in there. I told my husband, " if you were a carpenter, I know just what I would do: Tear down that wall and have more bathroom space LOL"
There are those white Rubbermaid shelving racks all the way around inside, halfway up from the floor and at the ceiling. They are mostly empty as are the clothing racks.
      😅
