It can't be denied that he was an amazing person in a lot of ways, but he also had some truly reprehensible racist and antisemitic beliefs (though I don't think he ever wanted to kill all Jewish and Black people...he was just incredibly prejudiced). @Blake Belladonna Well, ONE of them did, which is part of the reason he sadly has that reputation. Doesn't help that he associated with the MPAA, which had a lot of anti-semites, and Henry Ford, who WAS a known Nazi sympathizer.
That being said, there's a difference between antisemitism and having poor choice in friends, and it's probably the latter. After all, even Art Babbitt, who LOATHED Disney, passed on the opportunity of calling him Antisemetic. And while he had his flaws (being notoriously anti-union for example), he does get a rather undeserved bad rap, considering it's based on friends and the word of one disgruntled employee.

I love how Disneyland still has feral cats roaming the park that help keep rat infestations down. And they still care for the cats by leaving out food and water, defleaing and vaccinating them, spaying and neutering them, and giving out unplanned kittens for adoption.

That’s bc a lot of original “fairytales” were very dark (would be super cool if they had kept the original and made it an adult or pg -13 attraction... also generally the Disney in Paris is darker than the ones in the USA which I find interesting) .... basically Americans and other westerners watered fairytales down and made them have happy endings (eg if you look at the original brothers Grimm stories like Hansel and gretal, it’s much darker than the version that’s told today).... also you can see the difference in how fairies 🧚‍♂️ are portrayed- if you meet a true Irish person who has had stories passed down generations, they’ll tell you of evil creatures that will punish you if you disturb their ring forts or make them angry... the American versions have all been sweet and only get sweeter- look at tinker bell - she originally was a bit vindictive and mischievous (but at times sweet) but over the years she has gotten more and more sweet in various depictions...

This is a long story but here we go. When I went to Disney Land I was 9 years old (I think) and Sleeping Beauty was my absolute favorite movie. When my mother and I walked near it I ran up the steps and she ran after me. I was thrilled and I loved all of it... that is until the Malificent parts. When I heard her laugh and saw her. I shreaked so loud and started bawling my eyes out. I ran down the stairs and pushed past my mom yelling "SAVE YOURSELF MOMMY!" I ran into my dad's arms (he didn't go in). She came out and saw me clinging to my dad and she said "don't you want to finish the tower? What about true loves kiss or the fight, that's your favorite part!" I just slumped down on the ground and told her she would have to carry me up. I always thought it was a dream but I saw this and all the memories can flooding back to me. What a beautifully scarring experience.
Edit: This is making me realize I was such a drama queen.

I loved this!! Thank you for the thorough history...I was a decorating cast member when we cleared out the animated figures. I can definitively tell you the reasons besides the obvious, were: extensive structural damage(many dioramas were completely caved in from rain and firework damage), the need for security cameras, and ADA compliance. My team repurposed the figures on Main Street, and I myself rehabbed and created the Forest Dancing scene inside the castle shoppe. They were handmade beautiful treasures and I’m so happy I was part of the castle’s new chapter :)

You'll notice in the current version, there is a wheelchair-accessible experience near the exit of the attraction, on the ground floor. :) Love seeing the old parts of the original! Very cool.

Funny thing about that. I go to Disneyland often, since it's about 15 minute drive from my place, and a LOT of people don't know it exists - or that it's still around. I can't count how many times I've overheard people complaining about how they miss the Castle Walkthrough, only for me to tell them it's still there.
I think it's because of the low profile - the sign is rather small compared to all the stuff around it, and since there's no line/ropes you can easily miss it unless you already know where it's supposed to be.

Sleeping Beauty is my favourite and most nostalgic Disney movie for me. I'm glad the current version is closer to the original version of the walkthrough as it focuses more on the castle scenes rather than the whole film (ugh those mannequins), making you feel like you're really in there.

    • @TheIndependentLens
      @TheIndependentLens Рік тому

Yeah, those dolls and the department store window animatronics weren’t up to Disney standards. What they had before was way better. You just expect a really great optical illusion/effects coming from Disney that would incorporate the animation in the film. Those mannequins were cheesy and like a cheap knockoff.

I had no idea that there was an older, classier version of the walkthrough before the cheesy 70'd redo, nor that the recent reimagining had so much to do with that original version! So cool! The only things I really missed from the 70's version was the large physical animated dragon (I thought it was pretty impressive at the time) and seeing the actual "dancing" Aurora have her dress change color. Everything else in the recent version is a home run. Thanks so much for all the details, research, and photos!

Recently I saw a stage production of ‘The Aristocats’ (my niece was in it) and I had been expecting a character which wasn’t in it. The character was ‘Zasu’, a singing cat, and I discovered that she was actually in the first Don Bluth production, a half-hour film called ‘Banjo the Woodpile Cat’. Don and his animators left Disney after working on ‘The Aristocats’ movie and their first film is very similar, and very good.

Technically Don Bluth and Gary Goldman left Disney during production of The Fox and the Hound which was the last Disney movie they worked on taking other animators with them, and he didn't work on the Aristocats. And did you know he returned to Disney after 40 years for a visit?

I absolutely love it! I was so excited to see this in my notifications yesterday~ I've only been to Disney Land twice-- once in 2006, when I was 6 and so I don't remember much, and then last year. This was the first attraction my family walked through, and I loved it (for obvious reasons). My mom had gone to Disney Land regularly in her high school years because of band trips, and she got to see the Barbie Doll version, but I had never seen pictures of it until this video... I'm very, very happy we got what we have today.

My mom first visited Disneyland when the was 3 years old in 1960. One of her most vivid memories is the original walk through. It terrified her! I never saw the “Barbie” version in person, but it looks awful. It has none of the artistry and beauty seen in both the film and the old walk through. The attraction being restored to something that has the spirit of the original is an absolute delight! When it reopened I had a wonderful time going through it with my mom as she introduced it to her grandchildren, my little niece and nephew.

It was fascinating looking at the copies of the 1956 blueprints, that Disney provided. As a kid, never thought I'd be working on exhibits for Disney. Also sculpted many of the pieces that made up the Pixie Hollow exhibit in Disneyland. Thank You.

I have always remembered doing this walk through and being terrified at the end by the Malificent shadow.
