Wake Up Calls was created over a nine year period, using recordings of bird song featured on the red and amber lists of endangered British birds (with the exception of a Robin and a Blackbird, which aren’t endangered - yet).

cosmo's voice paired with the soft instrumental, beautiful lyrics and birdsongs really prove that he really is a forest spirit.
Look up the Nordic god, Bragi and tell me that Cosmo is not a reincarnation of him
@@zinatra1887 im familiar with bragi! im norse pagan ((: and yeah, he really is similar to bragi in many ways (:
mushroom eaj cool! Ok this question may seem a little off topic but would it be considered offensive if a person wanted to get into/adopt beliefs of Norse paganism without having any north Germanic heritage? I’ve taken an interest to it but I don’t want to seem disrespectful towards it.
@@zinatra1887 paganism is open to everyone as long as you respect the relgion, including rituals, spirit guides, and the dieties. norse paganism is a very interesting and fun religion, i think youll enjoy it ((:

The vocals in this one seem so sad yet so inviting at the same time, like knowing you'll stub your toe one day but lying in bed, happy that it wasn't today. Amazing
this is the most perfect way to describe this song
That's the most amazing and moving description of a song I've ever heard.
Bru 😭😭😭

Stubbing your toe is a beautiful analogy for death. Us humans all downplay it, glad it wasn't today :)
What do you do?
In April, I open my bill
In May, I sing night and day
In June, I change my tune
July, far off I fly
In August, away, I must (?)
Perfect sense is made

“In August, away I must.” The poem was written by Jane Taylor, back when people still used the phrase, “I must away” instead of “I must go away”.

Brain: :(
Cosmo: Hey wanna listen to the cuckoo song?
Brain: :D
cosmo could start floating and be like "im a god btw" and we wouldn't even be suprised
XD
I would consider it a normal afternoon if that happened
We'd be like: "Oh really? That's cool 👍"
This one is one of the best comments in the history of UA-cam
the god of nature to be exact
This makes me feel like I'm old and moved in a little cottage in the deep forest and I'm sitting on the porch and listening to the birds sing while knitting reflecting on my past and how I've gotten to this moment
agreed
ikr his music is so pretty
Well that’s a some imagination
With only the wildlife to accompany you on your travels..
I always cry as I imagine some kind of forest spirit entertaining the souls of a recently dead man with a song about the cuckoos before his last breath and journey to the other side.
This is why I love Cosmo Sheldrake.
The fact that this song about something like a cuckoo is beautiful and could be listened to for hours without end and still be wondrous and calming.
Thank you.
I hope to hear you again.
Listening to this with headphones and letting yourself drift away into a daydream is such a beautiful experience.
Yes it is
Makes me forget how horrible my day has been.
Hope you feel better
You got this chief.
Things will hopefully be better tomorrow.
i hope you're doing better now

I still remember the day it's just the song takes away the pain and helps me heal.
My cat of 11 1/2 years died last night. She was an outdoor cat, but slept inside. Her name was princess, and her brother was Luke. (After Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker) Luke died a long time ago and since then she’s been mostly alone besides my family. We live in the woods, and bird song is the sound of home. I found this song as soon as it came out, but only after her passing does it mean something new. Now when I hear this, I imagine this is what she hears in heaven as well. The comforting chorus of home, with her brother, in the sun. I hope she remembers our moments laying in the grass together, warm and happy. Listening to the birds. She really did have to go in august. To my beautiful, sweet sweet girl. I love you forever and always. I can’t wait to see you again.
I hope you're alright ✨
i came back tonight thinking of you. i miss you with my entire soul- i am not doing well
i’m so sorry my baby
I love the internet because some people we open up, and I'll be there to listen.

Cosmo's songs never cease to simply...Amaze me. I have ADHD, and I'm someone that can't stand slow-paced, 'soft' musics...
But Cosmo's songs are...different.
It just... relaxes me, and simply...clear my head.
This one is... something I'd never expect to like this much. But...now I just want to sit down in the forest, quietly listening to the life around me, taking the time to appreciate how beautiful everything is...
Thank you, Cosmo.
Same! Like I usually listen to fast pace hard songs like dubstep, Cosmo is the first artist of this style that I genuinely enjoy.
Same I usually like dubstep and stuff but cosmo is a vibe.
(Edit: Also I love glass animals especially the zaba album.)
Its because his songs are always so stimulating, ie the bird calls in the background.
i also have adhd and ocd. sometimes i feel like i just cant stop thinking, and its so overwhelming that ive cried because of it before because i just cant be calm.
i think cosmo is a god because his music, this album in particular calms me in a way that ever meds cant. i just feel calm and clear.
Such a visceral and well-composed song. This is gorgeous.

This sounds like sitting on a bench in a garden in dappled sunlight and smelling the warmth and flowers and hearing the birds and bumblebees flying and just calmly enjoying the peace

The Druid/Ranger anthem!
hell yeah! using this for my ranger character!
Every time I get a panic attack, I listen to this song. And time and time again, without failure, it comes as a comfort. Theres something with how soft he sings, how you can hear him inhaling, or that you can hear him softly pronounce the T at the end the “I must” part.
It feels like you’re sitting with him, that you’re in the forest and the nature around you, and the fresh air just tells you that everything’s going to be okay, and for once, you believe it.
Pure poetry...😌
I love the internet because some people will open up, and I'll be there to listen.
A dreamy, spare little minuet, which recalls the traditional cuckoo song by recounting the bird's activities by month, and repeating the familiar two-note "cuckoo", but is very much its own thing and wholly contemporary. Unforgettable.

my gosh this song has become an absolute comfort piece for me i play it every time I fee remotely bad and it just soothes everything over and gives me a moment of solace
First of all: my day was trash until I heard this. Thanks
Second of all: how do you always make music that sounds like what I want my soul to look like?
What an absolutely incredible song. It just makes you feel peaceful
The forest prince has released the full song!
Its so peaceful i can listen to this while sitting in the canyons and making friends with stray cats!
Stop. Imagine this.
You're strolling through the forest, the untamed grass brushing your ankles. Birds sing around you, and leaves fall onto your shoulders and around you as squirrels leap from branch to branch. You stop for a moment and sit on a stump, feeling your legs throb a bit from the soreness. You look around. Ahead of you, there's a deer stalking through the thicket, the sunlight seeping onto it's pelt. You smile as it looks at you, and eventually it builds up the courage to take quite few steps forward. You open your mouth and sing. The birds overhead stop for a moment, and the world goes silent as you sing to the deer. Then, they open their beaks and sing along.
Ohhh, beautiful.
Cottage core dreams
*Ah yes, I see you are a man of culture as well*
Out of every song i've listened to by Cosmo, this one is the only one where the melody has been burned into my mind. I doubt i'll be able to forget the way this song sounds, its incredible.
I feel like I transcended into another plane of existence only filled with birbs
I was listening to this song when I got the weirdest impulse to draw on my arm, and I drew a flower with this backwards 4 with a circle on it, and apparently it symbolizes an old fairy tale- COSMO WHAT MAGIC ARE YOU HIDING?!
initially i thought this song would be good for having a good cry to so i put it on my playlist for that but the second it came on i just. instantly stopped crying. like everything was suddenly okay. so thank you for that
this song makes me very sad but its also so comforting
So, I just found out that, apparently, this is a cover, but I can't bring myself to like the original piece as much as I like this one, wow
I'd say "it's story-telling time!" but I haven't even had breakfast yet
I think you might be thinking of the song Green Grass by Tom Waits, Cosmo Sheldrake has covered that song before, recently in fact, but this song I'm pretty sure is an original. I guess in a way it is a cover but I'm not sure if it's a cover if it's your own song. He had a song called Cockcoo in his EP Wake Up Calls, this is just that song with lyrics put over it (:
@@eprongles Nuh-uh, this one's a cover too! I was surprised as well! And this cover is not the same as his original "Cuckoo"

This makes me want to wake up on a foggy day in Norway, walk by a river and breathe in the fresh air and just stay there.
This helps me. I’ll be sure to come back when I have another tough time. Very calming. I thank you dearly
Can’t fucking sleep, this is the time T-T
And once again it helps ^^
This is one of the few songs that I could comfortably fall asleep to and it's wonderful.
Hes converted birdsong into something even more beautiful than before

I can imagine at the magical forest hearing cosmo singing this song near the waterfall.
Gosh, i really like this one! Its very calming. Makes me feel like im walking through some woods, filled with mist, listening to the singing of birds at the wee hours of the morning.
Haven’t even listened to the full song yet but It sounds so chill!! Love your songs they always have the best vibes :D

This sounds like the music that would play in a movie when two characters decide that they don't like each other anymore, but instead of some really bad forced separation; it actually makes sense for the characters. And this absoulte masterpiece fits it so well.
How is this so beautiful
I legit started to cry when listen to this song omg its so good
One day I’ll get out of this cage, and sing with the others outside the windows.
Definitely something I needed tonight, this calm, sense of tranquility, everything will be okay.
thank you for sharing your wonderful music with the world
This really is a love letter to all those birds
I could keep this on repeat forever.cause I have that positive vibes with this song and I'm connected with the song. He sings about spring, summer and the beginning of fall.
April - the bird starts singing
May - the bird sings night and day to express the transitioning of spring into summer
June - the bird changes his tune to something more expressive and soft and mellow
July - the seasons start the transition of summer into fall so the bird flys far of to find a shelter for the beggining of winter soon to come and to make preparationsfor hibernation
August - the bird waits for winter's start so it can finish gathering food and other resources it may need
Yes I got all that from this song. I also had a little help from my imagination. I hop this gets alot of likes. Although I doubt it.
This man is the king of goblincore. Come, my fellow goblins we shall worship our king.
I remember when this was a "live in the dawn chorus" song, this is fun!
i like how we’ve all banded together because cosmo sheldrake songs collectively make us feel like little elves gathered in a village and he’s our little nature god/nature spirit
Cosmo is such an underrated song creator, he deserves more popularity
The song was originally created by Benjamin Britten

This has an early spring morning feel to it. When there's still dew on the grass and the sun has barely risen. There's a coolness in the air and a slight breeze that comes with it.
this sounds so peaceful and heavenly.. ♡
Yep! Even more relaxed now. This is something I would listen to in a natural clearing in the forest and just nap peacefully to.
Wonderful reinterpretation of Britten's song! Bravo!
I couldn't believe I had to dig this far in the comments to find the first mention of Britten.
And the cuckoo bird whose singing can be heard in this was recorded singing above Britten's grave (so it says in the album description on Bandcamp)
Beautiful. There is a melancholy to the manaughtny you are singing about, yet still a sense of peace and comfort in the quite bird song you sing. Such a wonderful song!
I lost my stepmom last December due to cancer and this song makes me think of her for some reason. Like she's finally flying free.
i usually listen on spotify but i came to the comments of youtube to let you know how helpful your music is to me. i suffer with an undiagnosed tick disorder which makes it hard for me to do certain things while having a lot of them, sometimes they can be incredibly overwhelming. but recently i’ve found myself listening to your music just as they start getting bad, the background sounds and the melody of the music helps me concentrate on something else and helps them calm down. it’s amazing to know someone’s music can help with someone nobody ever would think of, thank you so much. also, im so happy you redid this song, now i have two lovely versions to listen to :)
Playing this with the added sound of rain in the background is just /chefs kiss/
There’s a lot of good singers out there, but the only unforgettable person is cosmo. It’s impossible to not lose yourself in his music
The seven-year-olds I care for before & after school were captivated by this song, listen to it happily over & over again (unlike most of my other music) and have taken an interest in cuckoos & other birds as a result. Science time!
Keep it up. Your songs and voice have helped me through some stuff like just now I had a panick attack
Is It just me or does this music make for a perfect for a ghibli soundtrack
I love this. This is so calming and satisfying.
The song ended and I just kinda sat there for 5 more minutes in silence. Beautiful work.
Finally! Some lyrics to go with this bop! Love it!

This song gives me a weird small bit of anxiety, but it's calming at the same time. As if someone is there, but not to cause any harm
The birds songs are upbeat, busy and bright while the human sings a melancholy tune.

This is my 2nd favorite song about Cuckoos
this makes me feel like im sitting on a porch, years after my spouse has died and watching the birds in the trees. Sad but beautiful. perfect

this is so lovely, it feels warm and comforting and yet lonely
Currently listening to this on repeat while my loud dryer is in the background. I just want peace oml 😭
I like this song because the first time I heard it was in Spotify's plant music playlist and I immediately thought "Is this Cosmo Sheldrake?" when I heard it.
this song reminds me of my grandfather and the time he was alive, he loved birds and always spoke to me about them, he had several in cages and the sound of birds in the background reminded me of his house
Every evening before sleep I’m listening to this song with tea. That’s so relaxing.
I was browsing Cottagecore tumblr posts and I knew exactly who to listen to.
