Blacksmithing - Forging a tea light holder from rebar
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 жов 2016
- In this video I show how I forge a simple tea light holder from a piece of fat rebar. The resulting shape is a bit funny, so I call it the cow poop tea light holder. Ha ha...

I love that you don't say anything. There's something relaxing about watching people create stuff. I could watch forging process for hours.
Thank you!
Torbjörn Åhman Hey! where do you live?
Alexandre FSAZP Sweden!
dancing bear - by not speaking during the process it allows anyone anywhere in the world to follow along. It works for everyone!
definitely more wack wack none of the annoying yack yack.. thankyou
That's an interesting pattern that I wouldn't have expected to come out after you upset the rebar. I think it looks pretty cool!
I had a feeling it would look interesting.
Through all the finish work...
Me: Don't mess with it!
Torbjörn: [messes with it]
Me: Ooh! That's better.
Repeat
Ubiquitous material, simple process achievable with the absolute basics or power hammers, and a lovely result which would serve well as a personal gift or even as 'bread and butter' type money making items for blacksmithing.
Marks of a great project man!
Thank you.
They look like birds's nests--beautiful!
Thanks!
That's is a money maker for sure ! Cheap piece of rebar into a forged candle holder , that is outstanding. Now I need to save up for a power hammer. Thanks for sharing .
Ha ha, thank!
Great idea, and perfect outcome buddy... you're a craftsman.
Thanks.
When I'm bored and have nothing to watch on youtube I go right to you channel and watch you videos even though I have seen every single one. They never get old.
:) Great!
What a great idea, turned out great!
It’s so cathartic watching u create....thank u sir... u allow us untrained and simple ppl into ur world. U r so appreciated...now I will hush 🤫 and watch u create...
a fantastic and as always very well done project. cheers!
Another inspiring act of craftsmanship. Fantastic!
Не стандартное мышление, видеть подсвечник в куске арматуры!!! Как всегда - супер. Просто молодец!!!
I told You - You are blacksmith artist. Greetings from Poland.
Beautiful work
Very Cool idea TA!!!
that is a really neat design, upsetting and forging rebar is always fun. nice work
Excelente trabajo!!!!
Very good idea, well done! Thanks for sharing
Thanks, you're welcome!
These are excellent!
There's something relaxing about hearing that hit and miss engine while watching a Craftsman at work
:) No hit and miss engine though...
Oh ok I thought that was what it sounded like
Yes,very nice film and a good looking, useful product
thank you
Look forward to your videos every time. Thanks for doing awesome work!
Thanks!
Love the way those turned out! Great idea!
Thanks
Very simple project. You really like rebar to work with. It is very easy to work with and shapes easily. Also, unlike mild steel, it will take a heat treat, though it is not a very good heat treat as it never really gets hard enough for a hard use tool. I guess it is some kind of low carbon simple steel.
Yes. The alloy can vary very much. The purpose is just to sustain a specific strength specification, other than that it can contain just random alloying elements - so I have heard...
Yes I have made some knives with it and heat treated them. They hold an edge...fair. It reminds me a lot like 9cr18mov. Any time I try to get an official make-up of the alloy manufacturers say it is just mild steel but that is clearly not 100% accurate.
fantastic work as usual, love the black rubbed finish.
Thanks.
Gracias por hacerme feliz viendo lo que mi abuelo trabajaba y yo lo miraba y disfrutaba . gracias
Great! Thanks
Torbjorn, it's great to see your videos again, I've missed them. this little project is a wonderful beginners project. they turned out very nice. I hope to see more videos from you. a lot of the UA-cam blacksmiths that made me very interested in Blacksmithing are fading away. Maybe because it is so time consuming.
thank you friend..
Thank you!
Finally a new video, thx!
your forgings are soo clean. love your work!
Thanks!
Hey those are beautiful! I love what you have been doing. Take care in these scary times...blessings to u and ur family.
always delighted to see such great ideas and very well executed projects!! well done !!
Thank you!
They've a Nice forms!
nice work👏
Beautiful!
So simple but so beautiful ...❤
superbe réalisation 👌
I always enjoy your videos. An awesome idea!! I have so large square rebar I'm going to try this with. Credit to you of coarse.
Square rebar? Cool! That makes a cool shape. You could also twist the bar before chopping it up in pieces.
Oh man, you never disappoint, thanks!
:) Thanks!
This project of yours is easy and simple!!
Thank you!
You're welcome
Loved it. I'll have to try it.
Great, please do!
your videos are so calm and relaxing, I'd love more uploads
Thanks!!
wow so simple but so nice
It has been such a pleasure to watch! As always... Great job. :)
Great, thanks!
Simpel design med grymt resultat. Klockrent, som vanligt.
Tack!
Super bueno, excelente vídeo, saludos desde Venezuela
Thanks!
Impressively light, deft hand in the press with those small pieces. Loved the paint patina too, have to remember that trick. Thanks for sharing! ~PJ
Thanks PJ. Yes, the tricky part is to squash it straight, so you have to compensate and correct for that.
I love the way that machine sounds !!!! idk why but it's like music to my ears !
power hammer
He he. Sweet isn't it?
Torbjörn Åhman yes I wish I had it in my house lol It looks old but sounds amazing. Its weird its soothing lol
I'm now going to have to try this with just my hammer and anvil. I'll likely be cursing you and your power hammer the entire time! Beautiful work!
:) Thanks. Good luck!! I'm not sure it's possible by hand even... you probably need to use the biggest hand hammer you have to set down the candle cavity.
That is one BIG GRINDER.
Amazing!
genius. simple and genius.
Nice simple project....I really like seeing how you set up your forge too, always interested in learning how they are done. I always look forward to new posts, and I go back and re-watch the old posts, something very satisfying watching Steel submit to your mastery. Cow poop? LOL that was an image I could not get out of my head ;)
:) Thank you!!
Another fantastic video I always enjoy them, you do great work keep it up : )
Great. Thanks!
Nice job
Very nice!
Nice work :)
Great video, Torbjorn!
Thanks
I really like the look of these, If I can figure out how to heat someone up hot enough might try making them and maybe a bees wax finish.
Those are really neat! I'll have to try making some using a sledge hammer
Ever since i found you channel i have loved it man you deserve more subs your amazing keep up the good work!
Thank you!!
WHAT A PRO!!
Try the same thing with a big screw. That looks really cool.
I like your Videos, ceep up the great work!
I can imagine! Thanks!
fantastic, excellent
This is a beautiful rest bite, from depression!..
Sua arte de ferreiro, soa como poesia.
Thanks!!
VERY creative and beautiful
Thanks!
Would love to see one of those hit with a brass brush. Great work
So simple yet looks amazing. Curious about using a large bolt or twisted square stock and using the same method on it.
Thanks. Me too :)
Nice video, Torbjörn.
The tealight holders look great.
You have already given a name to the tea light holders. :-D
Thanks! :)
И просто, и красиво. Тоже поробую.
Very nice,i like how they turned out.a good use for rebar lol
Thanks!
Wonderful
Beautiful tea lights. Thanks for sharing. So simple each unique and individual. Thought just a traditional blacksmith finish of pure bees wax applied when hot would perhaps be preferable to paint and varnish though.
Thanks. Since there is this very unique relief or pattern I wanted it to stand out and decided to try something different. By rubbing off the paint you expose the metal on the high spots which accentuates against the dark. Could have gone with bees wax on top of this of course but well... spray varnish I applied.
Outstanding use of rebar! Unfortunately my power hammer doesn't have the guts to upset something that size. I'll devise a way cause these are just plain cool! Keep after 'em Brother Torbjorn! Adios!
You can always use just a normal hammer, though it will take 5 times as long.
Thank you!
That's cool!
Loving the quality of ur channel, just subscribed (having a mini obsession with home blacksmithing
Thanks! :) Start hammering!
А вы батенька, поэт! 👍
Very nice.
I wish you would make a video on hammer making tongs in detail. Love your work. I even like to watch re-runs.
Thanks. Ok, noted. I need a larger pair... might be coming up, but can't promise anything.
Very cool. If you had a way to throw a twist on the rebar before forging it down, that might be pretty neat. Make the 2 "lines" spiral around the holder.
Yes, that came to my mind also! Might try that!
Awesome!
Fint arbete och likaså resultatet =) Som vanligt med andra ord!
Tack tack!
Snyggt jobbat!
Tack
good idea
not sure if i like the design - but i definitely love to watch you work :-)
He he, you don't have to. Not much design to it really, it just makes itself....
Now those are cool! Too bad I can't get my hands on a couple dozen of those, I know they would sell in our gift shop!
Thanks. A dozen might be too much but I do sell these on my web page!
As a sculptor, you can glimpse the result hidden in the stock. Congratulation.
To me they kind of look like birds nests.
Nice!
very clever design! does your forge chimnee have a fanned or a natural draft? the smoke shoots in it so nice.cheers.
Thanks! It's all natural draft! 315mm diameter pipe and 4m high, straight up.
GREAT!!!
I'm surprised to your channel for a long time and always like your staff.
I have never asked you if it is your hobby or your full time job?
great video by the way:-)
Thanks! It's mostly a hobby.
Torbjörn Åhman as a hobby, looks very professional!
lovely
You should have used brown paint! :D Nice work as always!
Maybe I should :) Thanks!
I actually really love the way these turned out. They are rather rustic looking and theoretically each one should/would be rather unique considering the method of creation. Do you sell these on your web page?
Thanks. I do! Out of stock for the moment but I will make more.
🇧🇷😎👍👏👏 linda peça
Lovely rustic look to those rebar pieces Torbjorn.... such a shame to see all that nice work covered with concrete soon though :-(
:)
Hey man, question: the black spray you use, then wipe off. is that a bbq high temp black spray paint? I like the idea of adding that highlight.
Hi! It might have been... It doesn't matter much. Any black paint will work to darken up the low spots.
dont like to start on this one with just a hammer =) nicely made !
Thanks. No, that would hurt...
