I was there! I worked at the record shop next door - a few months before I started working there, the Astoria toilets flooded and did a ton of damage to the record shop. As a peace offering (besides a hefty insurance settlement I'm sure) they let us into any show we wanted to for free, I went to every single Britpop/NME show I could get into... I was even able to see the soundcheck for this show earlier that afternoon, they were one of my favourite bands at the time so I was on cloud nine! The 90's in London, amazing days...
I am right in the middle at the front waving my arms in the air with the black watch on :D. Best single gig I have ever been too, and I have been to 100's. Rob and Jon, fucking legends. :'(
Christ, I have been looking for a recording of this gig everywhere!! I was at this one!!! Brilliant gig, brilliant band, brilliant times. I miss the 90's. Best era for tunes like this gem!!
Stonker of a track sounds mint when they played it at the Blackpool empress 2010 some friendly tour burned onto CD straight after the show. I had to have it
@@miktech71 oh, is that to get the speaker in the cabinet spinning? Sorry I'm not a musician but I think it has a spinning speaker? Thank you for your reply.
@@neilwhitaker6284Yes, that’s exactly what it’s doing. The speaker with the rotating horns (and drum) is called a Leslie. The Hammond can also activate the Leslie with a foot switch but Rob always did it his way.
@@jaynelane7772 Never said they were, but with my pedants hat on I would have to state that Tim was actually born in Salford, which is very much Manchester if you know the area! Also, a Manchester United fan, unfortunately.
@@jaynelane7772 Northwich is in Chesire! Besides their sound especially in the early days was considered "Madchester", that's who their biggest influences were at the time. If one didn't know this band but heard this performance one might assume they were a Manchester band.
Rob Collins = golden hands, touched by genius. My favourite Charlatans song

Still the Best. Fucking. Keyboard player. Ever.
Unfortunately, he died in 1996.
His favourite part of the organ, the Leslie switch.

Rob Collins giving it beans on backing vocals. Classic!
Always thought Rob had a great voice as well as being a great Hammond player

Outstanding clip. Just beautiful. The Bluetones supported if I recall correctly and was a great gig.
Ah remember Bluetones and their jangly open chords loved them too.

@@miktech71 that is so awesome! I'm going to watch more closely and listen. Thank you very much for explaining that.
Oasis b sides have nothing on these boys.
I’ve been saying this for the last 25 years my friend
Song OK, but great performance. As an intro to the Charlatons / Madchester, you could do a lot worse than start here!
Not from Manchester from West Midlands
