Wow. Thank you so much! I've been struggling to create a banjo sound for a new piece on my ipad with GarageBand but failed till I saw your wonderfully clear video.
@@PeteJohnsMusic I’ve been doing my own GarageBand covers on my channel. I’ve been thinking of doing a cover of part of the Spiderbait version of the song “Black Betty”, which has a banjo in it. 🪕
Great video. I was surprised how far the banjo sound progressed by the time you got to the end. One of my hopes is to find a true sounding violin or fiddle.
There's Erhu in Garage band Ethno instruments. It's not actually a violin, but it sounds quite similar for me. You can even manually do that nice vibrato and few more violin-like effects )) I used it in this song: ua-cam.com/video/J-LjJdRvZP0/v-deo.html
Yes! Totally agree. I have a review of “Sensual Sax” coming up which is a good option, but would be good to see these in our actual instruments section.
I haven’t found one personally. Maybe ask over at the Create Record Release Facebook group at createrecordreleaae.com, or the Discord group here - studiolivetoday.com/discord.
The Chinese Pipa which (unlike the banjo) _is_ available for download in the iOS version of GarageBand sounds kinda like a banjo. Would that not make a suitable approximation? Of course - it usually is played in a different music system using a different kind of scale - and in real life would sound different for _that_ reason. But might the MIDI instrument for the pipa not make a suitable approximation of a banjo?
I don’t think there’s a specific mandolin sound included. You might need to look for something in an external plugin. Maybe ask the folks over at studiolivetoday.com/gbu
Yes, a uke would be awesome.now that we have this “plucking” sound it might be possible to tweak it further. Hopefully we get these added in a future GB update.
Yeah, I haven’t found a good way to get a country fiddle sound as yet. The strings in GB are hard to get sounding good with anything that’s played quickly due to the slow attack. Ponk 80 - your next challenge? 😄🤘
@@PeteJohnsMusicyeah it’s not there. Found out I have to down load the Big Sur version of garageband to a MacBook (which I don’t have) so I just went with a no treble all bass guitar that was at a high octave.
Take a look at this one Shelly - ua-cam.com/video/wUtsnmHZDDo/v-deo.html And you might get a lot of value out of my “Quick Jams” series where I cover a different topic in a series of short videos. ua-cam.com/play/PLc8Xg_23Wa56UTlzOg6CYtASLqyEeAaKi.html
@@PeteJohnsMusic Then can you use this song as a Garageband teaching; or if you want to make a MIDI, you can also put the MIDI download link in the comment area! (hope for an early reply!)
Thanks fella. Been watching your vids on and off for a year or so now and have never enjoyed GB so much. Just now watching your AU plug-ins video and having soooo much fun 😁😁😁
Yep, it’s definitely easier with an iPad or a MIDI controller. Fun little hack though. Looks like people want a country style fiddle now. Any thoughts? 😊
@@PeteJohnsMusic iOS GB has a heap of piano, organ and analog keyboard sounds; a ton of every synthesizer sound ever made in the last 60 years....yet not one of the earliest keyboards that started it all. Where would Baroque / Chamber / Indy Rock be without at least one Harpsichord!?

Awesome! Very glad to hear it my friend.
Right on the back of the interview with Trane.. ... Pete never lets anything gets past him lol.. Another hit! Thanks Pete !
Heh heh! Another reason I love the GarageBand Users Facebook group. studiolivetoday.com
You really are just the most helpful guy for GarageBand ever!! Really been appreciating your videos man. Hope to see many more in 2020 🙌🏽
Keivonna thanks my friend. Appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. 👍

Still helping people three years later :)
That’s the plan! 🙏
Great workaround Pete....
👍
Great video. I was surprised how far the banjo sound progressed by the time you got to the end. One of my hopes is to find a true sounding violin or fiddle.
Yes, definitely another one on my list. Can be really hard to get the strings sounding good, especially in fast sections like in country arrangements.
There's Erhu in Garage band Ethno instruments. It's not actually a violin, but it sounds quite similar for me. You can even manually do that nice vibrato and few more violin-like effects ))

Great tip! I have heard of others using the erhu like a violin so perhaps we can adapt it to sound more like a fiddle too?
Pete you are DA man! Thanks a lot
🤘😎
Lol that song got me laughin
Haha! I hope it's old enough that I don't get a copyright strike!! 😄
You my hero 🦸♂️
Thanks. Appreciate the kind words.
This and a saxophone should be in the instruments! Thanks

Make a video on how to make a harmonica sound
Good idea! Not sure how to crack that one though? 🤔
@@PeteJohnsMusic well I’ve been trying everything but I can’t find the sound even if you try thank you

Yup. It’s actually often called a “Chinese Banjo” too. 🪕
I Like This Channel 😆
Great! Where or what pack is the mandolin sound in?

I know that you have to use interapp audio to play with thumb jam, but the banjo and thumb jam sounds a lot more natural
Nice!
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks for replying it means so much.

Try tweaking the Erhu with the EQ or something to make it sound more like a fiddle
Song at the end: turkey in the straw
🤘😎
I know how to add Sitar/Saxophone instruments to GarageBand!
What was Pete Johns thinking?
Pie. I was probably thinking about pie.

Try Merging the acoustic guitar and piano sound to make a harpsichord
