In all truth it's actually genius they changed the voice actor. Since karr has been under the sand for that long, his voice box would have sounded different.
As much as I respect Peter Cullen, Paul Frees was the better of the two IMO. Really, everything about KARR was better in this episode; there was an element of malevolence that was missing the first time.

Technically he probably did...at the end there's just the blinking led component, and maybe Acid John Byrock found it and used it to build the monster forklift in Junkyard Dog. Watch that one - we don't get to see who's driving!!!😲
KARR definitely appeared in another episode or two after this one. Remember, they gave him a bluish black and silver color scheme in order to better differentiate him from KITT. I think he was in about 4 or 5 episodes of the KNIGHT RIDER series. He was hands down the BEST villain in the series. Too bad they didn't get more creative with his role, as they could've really told some great stories with him, especially in relation to KITT and Knight Industries as a whole. It could've been epic.
@@shinbakihanma2749 They should have paired him and Garthe Knight the evil Michael Knight together at some point for their final epic battle. I feel as awesome as Goliath was as Garthe's deadly truck of doom, it was just well. C'mon man.

Miraculous! Not only did KARR magically reassemble after exploding into a million pieces and then bury itself in the sand completely intact, but it also changed the color of its forward scanner from red to yellow!
KARR didn't explode into little bits in episode 1. Yes there was an explosion but that was likely caused by his alpha circuit, which KARR said needed replacement in episode 2. I'm thinking the alpha circuits were the jet packs underneath KITT and KARR that allowed them to turbo boost and propelled them into pursuit mode. KITT and KARR had at least 2 of these, if not more, underneath the car. Yes I'm aware that KARR was still able to drive at high speed and turbo boost in episode 2, but like I said, he had several of these alpha circuits. As for the debris, that could've been anything floating on the beach side, like pieces of scraps, woods and stuff. The change in his scanner and voice module color from red to yellow was probably due to the impact as well. The impact also changed his voice too. If you're asking me, I thought it was a much needed improvement so I don't mind the plot-holes here. I couldn't stand Peter Cullen's voice. I'm sorry but Optimus Prime doesn't sound evil enough. He sounds like a ticked off, impatient dad who left a message on someone's answer machine. Paul Frees was the man! His manipulative voice was perfect for KARR.
Don Johnson : (1) KITT and Michael even state, specifically, in this episode that they ‘saw KARR explode’ and (2) you actually imagine that an impact would magically change the color of light bulbs in the car’s scanner??? Lol Dude - I can tell that you’re very committed to Knight Rider (obviously way too much) and your deeply bothered by the fact that it is just a TV show, but you sound utterly insane. The reason that KARR magically reassembled itself was because KARR was not originally intended to return to the series. However, he was a fan favorite and producers later decided to bring him back. The scanner was changed so that TV viewers could more easily distinguish KITT from KARR on screen. The alpha circuit wasn’t magic and can’t explain away poor writing. I hate to be the one to have to say this, but you need a life
dude, get a grip of yourself. I'm aware KARR was supposedly be destroyed in his first episode. But the ending left enough wiggle-room to allow for a sequel. KARR was not your typical Pontiac Trans Am from Detroit. He was the same as KITT, built to withstand punishment. KITT was capable of going through metal frames, concrete walls, and tons of rock boulders, unscathed. The explosion was caused by something underneath the car, most likely one of his several turbo boost / jet packs. As for the color change in his scanner, my only conclusion is the impact might have alter his configuration. Perhaps his lights were capable of changing color, the same way he and KITT can tint their windows to completely dark. As for Michael and KITT seeing KARR "exploded", again, they saw an explosion from a distance but we didn't see his parts as we all did in the sequel. During the explosion, there were pieces of things flying up but that could easily be debris floating in the water or on the beach. When he fell off the cliff, he landed into water and/or beach side sand. These are soft substances. Before you criticize the writers or myself, I think you need to think harder before commenting.
9:32 Nice drift by the cop. There are very impressive driving stunts in this episode considering it is a TV show. This is close to Fast and Furious level stunts.
"Kitt vs Karr" This is the episode where we were introduced to the song "Self Control" by Laura Branigan, one of my favorite episodes. I haven't seen this episode in 30 years, I feel like I'm 8 years old again. Does Karr's voice sound familiar? Optimus Prime, aka Peter Cullen.
I share your enthusiasm for the voice! Though I should point out that Peter Cullen played the voice of KARR in the first season episode "Trust Doesn't Rust". In this episode, KARR was played by Paul Frees. :)
KARR appeared to explode in Trust Doesn't Rust, turns out it was just a loose cable. BTW: Poor effort by the foundation to not clean up their rubbish from the beach.
KARR's alpha circuit caused the explosion. I don't know what the alpha circuits were so don't ask, but it was mentioned in the sequel. Also, we didn't see him explode into little bits in episode 1, just a fireball with debris flying up, which could've been anything on the beach. The foundation might have investigated afterward but couldn't find his remains so they likely assumed he was swept out into the oceans, but instead, he was swept to a distant part of the beach.
@@donjohnson8120 that's a reach lol. It was bad writing. Entertaining but bad writing. Fireball with debris equals EXPLOSION lol. They forced that episode. Goliath Returns you can justify. The foundation were idiots. KARR returning the way he did made no sense.
@@KThrilla Of course it's a reach! But what I said was not impossible. I actually discussed this scenario with another person somewhere in the other comments. We tried to figure it out 😀. The conclusion was that the damaged alpha circuits / alpha capacitors connects to either one of his many jet packs (you know the rockets / afterburners that allow him to turbo boost and go into pursuit mode), or his one of his other combustible tanks, you know the oil slick, and smoke screen, etc. That's why KARR did not appear damage because the explosion came from underneath the car. Now before you say shouldn't the bottom of his car have a big hole in it? Not really. Remember KARR had the same molecular bondage shield that KITT had, so the frame can still be intact but wherever the release or hole was for the booster, oil slick, smoke screen, etc. is, that where's the explosion came out from. Also, beaches are typically littered with debris and any impact will make it fly out.

Something tells me that there's more to KARR than meets the eye
;) but technically only in the first KARR episode, not this one, coz he was voiced by Paul Frees here :)
@@jkjeepontrail9074 no, but as splatbubble said, he was voiced by Peter Cullen in his first appearance.
I fucking LOVE the sound of KITT and KARR’s turbines whistling
So Epic!!! 👍✅️ 🚗
Yes 😍
Fun fact... Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime's voice) did KARR's first voice.
I like how they randomly relaxed before the end of the car driving off by itself
I was in complete shock when I saw karr for the 1st time... Gave me goosebumps
Love the the way they felt the need to add tyre screeching when cars are driving in sand and dirt tracks.
Mark Rocque You can never have enough tyre screeching in 80‘s films and TV shows.
@@wolfgangvan-uber6515 Tyre is a ruine-d olde East Meditteranian city. TIRES( NOT as in exhausted and needing a rest) make the laying of rubber although as the tires also were supposed to be coated in the same armor I always wondered why they did that sound.

This is my favorite episode of the show!
Love it how KARR falls into the sea in November 1982, is resurrected November 1984 but somehow has an audio cassette of Jump which was released in April 1984 lol.
Michael and KITT are my heroes ❤️
I think I like Paul Frees voice as KARR more than Peter Cullen. They gave him a more menacing sounding voice and with a upgraded voice box this version of KARR feels more powerful and cunning than KARR was before.
@@nooneinparticular1491 The car park scean is amazing his mimicry and luring just epic. Paul Frees is my favorite voice actor for KARR
I don't know who's voice like better first voice of KARR he had a lot of funny like comments and one-liners he was more of a hot-head.
This KARR voice is like a more evil sophisticated type of voice
Forget Stranger Things, this is what the 80's was really like, minus the crazy cars of course.
because this was made in the 80's? lmao
Yup, bike shorts and half shirts were all the rage. Makes me miss my mullet 😢
What exactly happens when John reconnects the plug located under the KARR dashboard (2:02) ? Is this what reactivates its systems or simply its voice command ?
Its cord driving front scanner. In reality it powers lightbulbs in front scanner from controller creating running light.
Season 3 was the peak of Knight Rider with this episode being one the best ever.
Season 4 went downhill quickly though...
@@imranbecks Yeah, SPM/EBS ruined everything.
Knights of Knight Rider !! Keeping the memory alive ! Love it . 😁"🤜🤛"
my favourite episode. I wish KARR would have returned one more time later in the series.
C'mon man.
The iconic legendary evil supercar we all love
Anyone else notice how KARR was lifted about about a foot when driving out of the sand. Once the car is on the road it's all of a sudden at a normal rude height.
Yeah, they probably put a lift kit or something on it for this scene otherwise it would have bottomed out and got stuck

Knight Rider in a nut shell. Can cut all the more boring parts out of each episode and end up with 10 minute episodes which are more entertaining. man imagine how much time this would save. 86 episodes if we cut 30 mins from each thats 43 hours of watch time we just saved ourselves.

I like how when KARR is pulled out you can see the entire film crew reflected on the paint doors.
Oh yes. Well spotted. I never noticed that.
Karr had his own style 🫂 Loved how he manipulated humans😈
I really LOVE this episode! It still makes me feel good, KARR's voice: awesome!
8:12 what a perfectly thought out shot.
I like it how A) easily KARR got pulled out from under sand, and 2) how the remaining sand on him just disappears completely.
I used to love that show
I just bought a Firebird that needs TLC. And well, this show comes to mind looking at it in my garage. 😂

Miraculous! Not only did KARR magically reassemble after exploding into a million pieces and then bury itself in the sand completely intact, but it also changed the color of its forward scanner from red to yellow!
And got himself a new dashboard too!
@@zorkmid1083 he must be BORG
Lol
Dude - I can tell that you’re very committed to Knight Rider (obviously way too much) and your deeply bothered by the fact that it is just a TV show, but you sound utterly insane.
That was how 80s TV was! It was very fun. I know of one guy at least who rolled his car while mimicking the Dukes of Hazzard.
Same stunt director as Fast & Furious series!

I share your enthusiasm for the voice! Though I should point out that Peter Cullen played the voice of KARR in the first season episode "Trust Doesn't Rust". In this episode, KARR was played by Paul Frees. :)

@@kurtsnyder4752 Bonded at the molecular level.
KARR appeared to explode in Trust Doesn't Rust, turns out it was just a loose cable.
BTW: Poor effort by the foundation to not clean up their rubbish from the beach.
You mean the same Foundation that left Goliath in the desert?
Plotholes big enough to swallow all of Sunnnydale county in California, er before it submerged.
