I flied this helicopter a few years ago, it is used to spray crops in Romania. The pilot used some wire to tie something at the engine and this make me nervous before takeoff, but the heli flied very nice though. I was feeling great and the flight was sensational! This one is also a romanian KA-26 if I look at the flag!
Yeah, if you're willing to forgo certain niceties you can make an extremely solid, albeit more basic vehicle that will last decades. Issue is with added complexity comes more moving parts to break, higher dependence on exotic materials/technology and more maintenance. As many modern militaries are learning, sometimes all you need is something somewhat basic that just works.
I love these little choppers. They are modular. Behind the cockpit can be fitted a variety of 'modules' like for passenger carrying or as an air ambulance. I am guessing this one is a crop duster. There is a larger, more modern version in production called the Ka-226. ☮

Ekranoplan was on the list, but not the top. They've had a bunch of military and civilian aircraft, plus in the early days there were some pretty wild ones.
I like the way Russian people invent such flying machines, large windows, roomy interiors, quirky start-up procedures, even in cold climates, great people!
Cold starting? Guy turning the engine over by hand to be sure the cylinders are clear… then immediately after the engine is already happily idling. Where’s the “starting” bit??
The real cool thing: seeing this monster in action. In 2017 or so, I pictured it in action (spray against mosquitos) coming over Steaua (Timisoara) so close that the pilot could be clearelky seen.

Weird? It's just an open-frame Kamov. I see them every summer, quite often - albeit with an integral passenger cab. Noisy, yes, but it's 60-year-old technology, what do you want...
@@johnporterfield7523 If the yaw torque isn't controlled in hover, I would expect it to yaw out of control. In theory, it could be controlled by setting the collective pitch differently between the two rotors.
Awesome video! The good old Kamov 😊 When I was young I flew by KA-26 many times,my father was ag. pilot. I made a video a few years ago about one (on my channel).
You skipped over the actual starting process you just jump cut that part out. I would have love to hear that helicopter spool up. This would have a better video if you had those two things.

Quelle: Wikipedia
Kaman also built an "eggbeater" type helo. I always thought they looked comical. But those two rotors meshed. These are concentric and has two radial engines! No need for tail rotor, or even pedals under normal conditions.
@@jmdesertadventures803: Thanks, but I knew that. We had Kaman helos when I was in the Navy. I was saying they also had a model "eggbeater" style rotors. It was called the Huskie [sic]. Some are still around.
How the hell is someone not still manufacturing these? Simple, cheap, versatile and being Russian, hard as nails. Would sell thousands in more remote and less developed parts of the world.
