This feature currently isn't working on certain carriers. It is. It was in the beginning and then it stopped. So I think something between the time that the feature was fully integrated with iPhone and starting to work between the two Android and iPhone. Hopefully they will come up with a fix soon because on my phone it says I'm connected via RCs but any text that I send sends as a SMS
I think some android users didn't aware that RCS messages default on Google messages, like you using pixel phone you just need to check on setting same like nothing phone. RCS requires WiFi or mobile data, on Android at least there is an option to still send the message via SMS if the recipient doesn't have this available. I had complaints that messages weren't getting thro' because of this - this option is switched off by default 😂. RCS is good but not perfect.
yeah that is a huge downside. there are lots of places where people don't have access to wifi, so you might send a text that never gets received, and in my country sending SMS texts is expensive
I dont use WhatsApp because i dont want to sign up for another thing. But also i personally have a capped data plan of 4GB. Much rather my messages (considering they are texts) be classed as texts where i get unlimited then using my data for not only the texts but also all the telemetry data whatsapp class as essential. So thats why im using rcs over whatsapp

If you have android and your carrier doesnt support it, you can use Google Messages and it will backdrop to Google Jibe and allow RCS otherwise you are in the same situation as the iPhone until your carrier supports RCS.
The line between Apple and Android in texting is becoming WAY thinner. Pretty good, as everyone is benefitted.
I really honestly can't believe this is a topic today.. It feels like the world that relies on apple have been living under the rock.
I've been using RCS messaging with friends for what now.. About two years?
It's just a no brainer... Infact I use it often now with close friends and family members over IM apps like WhatsApp, or signal..
It's just a no brainer.. A messages app comes with every phone out there, so it's a no brainer to see RCS a standard just as sms..
Well, better late than never.. Just surprised this is like a big news.. Lol
Thank you for this video! Much needed.
That Pixel Keyboard? What theme is that? I don’t have that on my GBoard.
In my s21 fe, everything works fine except the voice notes, which keep buffering and don't get downloaded. I've tried everything like uninstalling the app, reinstalling it again, and resetting the network settings, but it just doesn't work. Could you please help me with this? Can't figure out the issue
Been trying to get RCS to work since the initial iOS 18 beta and still (18.1 beta 5) can’t get it to work despite my plan/carrier showing support in settings, toggling it on/off, eSIM on/off, etc.
Will this work if people already have an iMessage group chat or do you have to make a whole new group chat?
My rcs was work from my android to i phone and is switched off can't get it back on it said texting with sms/mms how do I get back on?
Globally or just in US?
Which gboard theme are you using?
how did you get your keyboard that theme?
Is something wrong with read receipts between iPhone and Android? I don't seem to have them. I assume both parties have to have it turned on?
Also the extra compression being done by Google to media sent through Google Messages is egregious. Fix it.
Still not working for a lot of people, despite being in the US, updated to iOS 18, on a supported carrier and all that.
This feature currently isn't working on certain carriers. It is. It was in the beginning and then it stopped. So I think something between the time that the feature was fully integrated with iPhone and starting to work between the two Android and iPhone. Something fell off on the Android side because a lot of people I spoke with they were able to use it and now it doesn't even work between Android users let alone iPhone and Android users. Hopefully they will come up with a fix soon because on my phone it says I'm connected via RCs but any text that I send sends as a SMS
I think some android users didn't aware that RCS messages default on Google messages, like you using pixel phone you just need to check on setting same like nothing phone. Brand like Samsung phone and the others they have separated messages app which need to download Google message and activate theRCS messages on the setting and make as default messages app.
how do i get my rcs to say "connected" status in the message setting . mine just says "setting up" and wont get off of it
Good video, but android let's you turn off typing indicators
The Carrier part is the biggest hurdle for my social group. My wife owns an iphone yet her carrier doesnt support it. The carrier has been quite on the subject too whereby only mention of it is on the forums, people stating they work for the carrier say its in the works
How can i receive higher quality videos on android sent from an ios device.I toggled the (send message faster) to off and still not working
Is there any way to have RCS on iOS 17?
No.
replying to individual messages isn't available in iOS RCS yet
This statement: “There is no encryption for Android to iPhone RCS messaging and vice-versa” is inaccurate. There is no _end-to-end_ encryption when using RCS between Android and iPhone. However, there is encryption in transit.
how do I get it from saying "textmessage SMS" to "textmessage RCS"
Has anyone had issues with reactions on videos? I don’t believe that the iOS update allows that, as of right now. It still shows up like an additional text
I can't figure out why, but on my Pixel 9 Pro XL I'm unable to reply directly to messages within a conversation thread.
But, on my Pixel Tablet which connects to the same conversations, I can.
It's really weird & frustrating.
I'm on Fi with RCS enabled, both are on Android 14.
I really can't figure it out, but oh well.
Anyone else?
sms is annoying?
gee you think, as literally NO ONE uses it anymore since the existence of snmartphones?
RCS requires WiFi or mobile data, on Android at least there is an option to still send the message via SMS if the recipient doesn't have this available.
I had complaints that messages weren't getting thro' because of this - this option is switched off by default 😂.
RCS is good but not perfect.
yeah that is a huge downside. there are lots of places where people don't have access to wifi, so you might send a text that never gets received, and in my country sending SMS texts is expensive
It automatically switches. My wife has an android and I have iPhone. When I’m in a bad reception area it switches to sms.
Mine still says SMS 😢 Why? It’s turned on? I’m on IOS 18 on a 16 Pro Max
How did you get only known contacts to show up on Google Messages? I have so many spam contacts😭
It's too bad the read indicators and typing indicators do not work in group chats with iPhone and Android users.
Question -
Why would you use RCS messaging for text. pictures or Video when you can use WhatsApp?
What app is free to send everything.
Not everyone uses WhatsApp or wants to use WhatsApp. Just like not everyone has an Android or wants to use an Android.
Some people like using the default messaging app on their devices. RCS just gives everyone more options :)
WhatsApp is a euro thing, no one really use WhatsApp in USA
i have s24 ultra on verizon (unlocked) and RCS does not work. i have tried every tip and trick and it keeps saying setting up
Did you call Verizon support? I would start there, could be on their end.
Are you on a Verizon business or government account? Verizon has recently started blocking RCS on some of these accounts.
You using Samsung's messaging app or google messages? On my mom's S20 ultra, we found out the Samsung Messages app does not support RCS...once we switched her to google messages, RCS lit up perfectly!
Thank you bro
"Setting up" on my device.how to fix it?
Annoying this that no one i know except for a single person has RCS enabled and they’re all still SMS. I dont know if samsung does not have it enabled by default or a Verizon thing but its just a bad roll out.
Told iPhone users to upgrade and they are showing up as RCS individually speaking but not for the GC
Google just needs to change the checks to read or delivered.
That's all.
Those two checks looks like a mess or not so clean
Yes! I agree
My read indicators do not work for those that I am talking to with iPhones. Does anyone else have that issue as well?
Are you in a group chat? I have read elsewhere that iPhone does not support read receipts in group chats, not even for iPhone to iPhone iMessage only chats.
i wonder if RCS will get support from game pigeon!
How is caring about whether messages are encrypted or not “petty”?
That TV background with lugia?
Gotta catch 'em all
I guess we were lucky that in our country WhatsApp is the default method. Everyone is expected to have it by default on their phone no matter what. Basically a replacement to text messages at all.
It's crazy I'm on Google Fi which is a Google product and they don't support RCS for iPhones. 🤷🤦🤔
Update
Ugh, mine doesn’t rlly work very well
Can you believe it - O2 doesn't support RCS on iPhone just now ☹️
Apples rcs doesnt work on my companys wifi...so most people worh iphones are just turning it off altogether saying it sucks
I assumed Apple would make the experience as bad as possible
Also interesting, my iPhone gets full emoji reactions not text reactions
Green and Blue bubbles only seems to be an issue in America, the rest of the world that mostly use Android don't care about it and Android can change the bubble colour to anything of your choosing.
Now the problem with this is getting android users to enable RCS.
It's automatic in my part of the world
what about replies? I can't find any information on how this shows up on the iOS side of things.
My s22 on RCS still wants me to trim videos down to nothing
An angry ex will be mad if he knows u read them and not respond. It's good and bad . People will get upset cuz u didn't text them back knowing they know u read it. It's a ticking bomb
Anybody have RCS on iPhone I want to see if thus actually works?
And there lies the real issue "if your carrier supports RCS" Here in new Zealand, no networks here support the RCS from iphone to Android.
My samsung messages finally changed to blue and now ita back to green
They need to allow scheduled messages to be sent to android and not just iPhone users. My sister has an android and I have an iPhone. She can send scheduled messages to me but I cant send them to her. I need apple to get that together........ seriously
I like being able to change my bubble color on my Ultra😂, i guess because im older thats stuff doesnt bother me
I just now learned this existed like 2 weeks ago 😅
I know it's not the main takeaway of this video but my jaw has been on the floor ever since I learned last year that iPhone users were convinced androids had crap cameras because iMessage receives photos sent from android devices in crap quality
When's android 15 is rolling out?
1 Week to go🎉
For Samsung sometime next year lol
Help! my rcs has been connecting my number for over 3 months now. What should I do? 😂😂
