I LOVE Bootstrap Farmer! The pots and trays are so so well designed and made! I have used this system of starting earlier in smaller cells and then potting on, sometimes twice, to get a headstart on the season. Works like a charm! Thank you, Bootstrap Farmer!!!
Thanks for the video I have the 1020 trays but didn't know what cells to get. I'm a new gardener with small garden so the 4 cell inserts will be great for me. Happy Gardening!
Hola Titi! By time I was ready to get the cells they were sold out of the multi color 3" and I let my OCDish get in the way and got multi color 5" oh my word they are big 🤣 but I got them so I'm work with them. 🥰
I sure do appreciate all the new products you've come out with lately, not to mention the colors and durability. That last one is what got me to try Bootstrap in the first place. I just received my order of 3 1/2" and 4 cell pots plus some more 1020 trays and some 1010 trays. I love Bootstrap and have been using them for several years now. The 5" pots were a game changer for me with tomatoes when they came out. Before that all I could get were the flimsy 4.5 x 6 from elsewhere.
It's nice to see a company came out with robust seed starting pots and trays. I only wish you sold smaller quantities of some of your items. I think more people would buy them.
If we sold smaller quantities, you would see that our minimum quantity would be lower than a single piece or lower than what we have. We must account for what a package costs to send, warehousing, and labor to process a single piece.
Another option is to go in on a purchase with another neighbor or something and divide the purchase accordingly to fit the budget that makes sense for you.
@cosmicallyderived I just found other similar products, but thanks for the input. They could sell smaller quantities if they wanted. Take their 6 cell trays, for example. The smallest quantity they sell is 60. 60? What home gardener needs 60 of them? They could sell 15 or 30. They charge for shipping, so why does Quantity matter? I just wanted to try some of the new air prune items, but I found what I was looking for elsewhere, so it's all good.
I'd love a video on root bound plants. How to recognize when it's gone too far and how to deal with it. I always seem to wait too long for my planting or up potting...
Thank you for this! I will be placing my first order with you guys this Winter and this video helped clarify how many and what sized pots and trays I should be thinking about getting. Much appreciated and looking forward to trying out a more durable product that I hopefully won't have to replace each year!
Great video. I have been hearing about you guys for years from different UA-camrs like Fermented Homestead and Whispering Willows. I think I have put things in my cart a few times on your website but was worried about getting the wrong things. Thanks!
@@BootstrapFarmer I’m super psyched! Just placed my order today, it’ll get me moving in the right direction with bright colors, to boot! Love that I found your channel! Happy new subscriber, too!
Some of the reasons you might not are larger pots take up a lot of space meaning you’re starting less seeds in the same amount of room. So for instance, the largest pots, 5 inches only eight fit in a 1020 tray. Versus if you start them in cell trays in the same 1020 size you could easily start upwards of 200 starts. Then you gradually up them as the roots grow while adding fresh soil, which equals more nutrients into the root zone. As plants grow in smaller pots, they deplete the nutrients in the soil and that’s why you see plants have a massive growth as those new hungry roots, devour new nutrients as they grow into the bigger pot.
I wish you made a tray with cells in it like the 200 but the size of the 6 cell. I love the 200 cell tray but i hate getting them out. It would be so nice to have something like that so i could just push it down on a jig and pop out about 15 or 20 at a time.
Hey there! We actually do! Check out our 72 cell tray or our 72 cell air prune tray. We also carry a plug popper that works for both trays. Here are the links - www.bootstrapfarmer.com/products/extra-strength-72-cell-seedling-starter-trays -www.bootstrapfarmer.com/products/airprune-tray-72cell -www.bootstrapfarmer.com/products/plug-poppers
@BootstrapFarmer I have the 72 cell air prune tray and i like it. But I woukd like 200 ish cell that re decided in 3.3"x5" like a 6 cell. It would be more manageable for small batches.
We are on Amazon, but because of their fees, it is cheaper to buy directly at www.bootstrapfarmer.com. There is also much more selection, and we also ship at no cost over $49 to lower 48.
Hello Bootrap Farmers, and thanks for the video. Are the 6 cells trays compatible with 1010 trays? Like can I put 6x 6cells into a 1010, just like I can put 12 of these inside a 1020? Thanks
Personally, I like STAR SAN A high-foaming, acid-based, no-rinse sanitizer that helps penetrate cracks and crevices. Odorless, flavorless, and biodegradable. Reduces water spotting and can be used without rinsing when used at the recommended dilution.
@@BootstrapFarmer I assume you meant Barrina. Specifically, which of their lights? I bought some 2 years ago and even with the lights a mere 2-3" above the soil, my seedlings still end up leggy. Nothing on the packaging indicated kelvin or lumens levels, just "grow lights." Being new at seed starting, I naively assumed they would be OK.
I'm more of a fan of just planting 3-4 seeds in a 3.33" pot and having the less productive plants "loss their heads". I start really early and don't have the time and energy for all this repotting. I just drop them under the lights set some drip lines to the trays on a timer and come back in a month.

Mi sobrina! I think the investment I made 2yrs ago was the best gardening decision in using Bootstrap pots! You will love them!

Can you just plant your seeds in the final size pot you want it in?

That's right, 6 will fit into a 1010
What sanitization “bath” would you recommend cleaning from one year to the next.

That was my first thought … Star San, but on their website site they state it’s NOT a sanitizor. Kinda odd.
What kind of lights are you using in the background where they are about 24 inches above your plants?
Bernina
