+Daniel Mcmahan Thats great! Which Mora did you pick up? They are very satisfying...not only are they outstanding knives, but the price is excellent! Thank you for watching! -Dave
+guncotton 1 You are exactly right, my friend! Very well said...brightest sunshine of the year. I actually had to take that into account while filming. Seems like forever since I had to film around the beautiful sunshine. I love it! Than you for watching and it's great to hear from you! -Dave
ya I have been staying busy made some leather sheaths my first 3 ever finnally got a Stanley pot with the 2 green cups and an Esbit spirits stove fits right into the top mug under the lid lots more knives too i am actually thinking of making a vid since I found out that I can use my Google nexus 7 as a camera -winter is long in southern Ontario the cabin fever can finish you off unless you stay busy -cheers
I just purchased the same knife this week and so far I feel the same way about it. It's a beautifully made knife that feels good in the hand. It's perfect for all the small camp chores and is very light weight. I really like the plastic retaining sheath and I'm glad they didn't stick a leather sheath on it. I can afford most any knife but I see no reason to spend any more money than I did for this one.
Absolutely outstanding knives indeed. My first one was a Companion HD and throughout the years it outlived some knives that came way later. Unbeatable for such a price, easy to sharpen and surprisingly sturdy for a budget knife.
You are exactly right, my friend...the HD Companion is outstanding! I still slightly prefer the Companion MG, but at the budget price, everyone should own both! Thank you for stopping by! -Dave
I watched this video when it first came out and purchased this knife in od green and I've used the heck out of this knife and it's still in good shape. It's one of the knives that I can say is worth every penny. very easy to keep sharp and with a forced patina it's easy to keep rust free.
Great video! I just bought this exact same knife at Cabelas the other day for $20.00. The more I play with it , the more I like it. I really like the retention idea, and the filing square of the spine. I'll modify mine along those lines, thank you for the good advice. It's also cool how you showed just how effective a bush knife this little knife is.
Thank you for watching and leaving your awesome comment, Jack! How is the knife working out for you? How are the modifications? Keep me posted, my friend! -Dave
An excellent blade! I won the OD Green version from Chad at Sufficient Survival in a GAW. Probably my favorite knife! Mora's carbon steel is excellent. I forgot to clean it once and had rotated some other blades in my bushcraft carry and a few weeks later i go back to it and there wasn't a single rust spot!
+EDC Adventures You are exactly right...Mora's carbon steel is excellent and it takes an outstanding spark from a piece of chert. Easy to clean, maintain and sharpen. I prefer the Mora MG a bit more but this knife is excellent! -Dave
Thank you for the kind words, Jill! You can definitely do it with no problem at all! Let me know how you like the Mora when you receive it! I appreciate you taking the time to stop by, my friend! -Dave
+cabotbluegill Very well said, brother! IMHO, that is what Morakniv is all about - outstanding knives at great prices! Thank you for watching, my friend! -Dave
+John “survivor johnny” Tewelow Thank you for watching, my friend! I am happy to be able to create content that you enjoy, brother! Great to hear from you! -Dave
Just stumbled on this video and your channel, great stuff! You've got a very friendly persona that makes for great watching, feels like I'm there with you in the woods! Subscribed!

A+ Video, I have become a Mora Magnet. thanks, to Dave and Dutch Bushcraft Knives.. I have a doz. or so already. The Companion HD is a beast! if you can only afford one knife, try the Companion HD that Dave just showed us.. Nice work Dave! take care, Clark
Another good solid quality video. I also want to commend you on your fire prep. It's not always in the video but I can the time taken to gather the proper materials to strat, build and the maintain your fire. Well done.
+Jonathan Zook Thank you for the kind words, Jonathan! I appreciate you noticing the fire prep! I figured that people would get tired of hearing me say shavings/feathers/pencil lead sized twigs/marker sized sticks and fuel so I just show it. You cannot go wrong with that combination and order. As you know, it takes time and work but I love it! Thank you, again, my friend! -Dave
+KatahdinKooking Mama (Maineroses) Thank you for watching, Robin! I appreciate the thumbs up! Did you ever end up getting your Mora? Which one did you go with? -Dave
Thank you for watching and leaving you kind comment, Daniel! You are going to absolutely love this knife! One of my favorites and the price is excellent! Let me know your thoughts when you receive it, my friend! -Dave
Looking forward to getting mine sometime this week. Looks like a comprehensive tool for most tasks. Good thoughts Dave and thank you for the reviews you give.
HighCarbonSteel Love Yes, I will be filing the spine as you did. I'm not afraid to tweak a tool to make it better. Thank you for this review in particular. On another venture, I purchased an inexpensive knife yesterday, $29.28, the MTECH MX-8054. There are lots of videos on YT on it and it seems to be of questionable quality, but I want to see if there really is a knife out there that can do many tasks well enough to replace other items. I was looking for a TRACKER style blade, as I believe I mentioned to you once, but then I saw this knife which holds many of the Tracker design features but goes beyond them, such as a real pointed tip. I'll see what it's like and make a video on it when my findings confirm or negate any preconceptions of it when I get a real camera. I can tell it will need modifications already to make it a better woodcraft tool as it's marketed as a military knife but it's actually, or I think it is, better suited as a survial-slash-woods tool. The biggest change, I think, will be removing the bottom excessively exaggerated finger guard as it's only there for looks to give it a more aggressive look as a fighting tool. Also, the Tanto tip could be reshaped to make it a better slice/scrape/carver. Time will tell.
Great vid and channel. Keep 'em coming. I totally agree on the value of this blade for the money. I scored four of these on eBay last year for $13.50 each. They are a perfect choice for car emergency kits and camp/bushcraft knives. I put 90 degree spines on them like you did. They throw a spark with flint rather well too.
Thank you for watching and leaving your very kind words! 4 of them for $13.50 each is an outstanding deal! I appreciate you stopping by and please don't be a stranger, my friend! -Dave
+Melusine Centun (Melusine101) Hey, Irene! Nice to hear from you, my friend! Yes, the smart custom knife makers really should try to replicate Morakniv, as they are #1 in my book! -Dave
You did a great job on pronouncement for this knife. I speak a little Swedish due to my great grandmother as she was a Swedish immigrant to the states here. I own a few Moras, and hopefully a gransfors bruks soon, just a little pricy at the moment. You did very well on this video, I really enjoyed this one for obvious reasons:) keep up the great videos!
+BlackRifle Survival Thank you, my friend! I have been practicing my Swedish pronunciation (with Ulrica's help) because someday, I plan to visit Sweden and check out the Morakniv and Husqvarna factories. The price is the exact reason why I don't use GB axes. I appreciate the kind words and am very happy to hear that you enjoyed the video, brother! Thanks for the awesome comment! -Dave
+HighDesertTactical Thank you for watching and leaving your kind words, my friend! Keep me posted on how the desert bushcrafting is going! Great to hear and I look forward to talking with you again soon! -Dave
thats what i need...i just recently lost my heavy duty companion in black and OD...went back to find it and fat chance...that blaze orange would be hard to miss, much easier to spot...if i order a new one i'll get the blaze orange...atb...woods
+MTwoodsrunner You are exactly right, my friend! The blaze orange is an excellent color for looking after the knife and you don't need a pesky, bright lanyard to find it in case you drop it. I dropped my Spyderco Bushcraft in the leaves and it took about 1/2 hour to find so I had to add a bright lanyard and I am not a big fan of knife lanyards. Thank you for watching, woods! Nice to hear from you! -Dave
+HighCarbonSteel Love Its doing very well! I took it out with Jessie and she used it a bit too to practice her skills. We had a great time. I just love it.
I really dig the SpartanJohns channel. I've been watching him for a long time! I use a similar method for retention on my Mora knives, but instead of a slipknot I use a small spring cord-lock.
+MCKwilly It's an excellent knife! I never bought it because it's pretty much a Mora HQ Robust (which I have and love) but who am I to turn down an awesome gift? -Dave
Thank you for watching and leaving your kind words! If you pick one up, let me know how you like it! I think you will enjoy this knife a lot, as everyone should own at least one Morakniv! -Dave
i use a loop of bungee cord instead of the paracord with the slip knot, to secure mi old MG companion (light duty)and works great.more quick and easy to secure stretching the bungee than slipping the knot
The only ferro rods/firesteels that I use are Nathan4071's. Affordable and outstanding, my friend! Thank you for watching and here is Nathan's eBay store -www.ebay.com/usr/nathan4071. -Dave
Not weird, at all, Ryan...it's actually a cheap, strong watch from Kohls. I think it cost me about $10. No real features on it but I was just looking for durability in the woods. Great question, my friend, and I appreciate you stopping by! -Dave
+Alfonso Casillas I have not heard anything about the price Alfonso. I am not a big fan, from what I have seen but hopefully they are affordable. Thank you for watching, my friend! -Dave
Thank you for watching, mister smith! The boots are the Dr. Martens Tamarack - www.planetshoes.com/item/dr.-martens-tamarack-st-9-tie-boot/30086. Some of the best boots I have ever owned! Nice to hear from you, my friend! -Dave
+Weekend Wanderer Not much, my friend! I have never been one of those guys who have been calling for a full tang Mora. I will also never pay more than $50 for a Mora either! The beauty of Morakniv is their high value and low price point, regardless of the tang. Thank you for watching and leaving your kind words! Nice to hear from you! -Dave
+Father and Son Adventures of Iowa (FSAIOWA) Thank you for the kind words, my friend! I don't take Ember into these woods because she has a tendency to chase wildlife...haha! But, it is her birthday this week so she might be making an appearance soon! Thank you for asking about her, I really appreciate that! -Dave
+lowwkey91 That is an interesting thought, my friend! I would be curious to know that too. My favorites are the Classics (#1 & #2), followed by the Mora Companion MG and the Bushcraft Black. Thank you for watching and have fun with your Companion HD! -Dave
I heard that filing the spine exposed some of the weaker laminated metal, which rolled after only a few strikes on a ferro rod. Can you comment on this? Thanks
I have heard that but have never experienced any adversity after filing my spines and I have been doing for for many years on many knives. If I sense that the spine of my knife is getting dull, I just file it again. Thank you for watching and leaving your awesome question! -Dave
HighCarbonSteel Love Thank you for replying! I stumbled upon your channel looking at knife reviews and I love the content. Your cheerful attitude and knowledge of bushcraft make it really entertaining. It turns out the issue I heard about was because of the laminated layer on top, and I guess Mora said that you just need to file it down more than one might think, so there isn't really a problem like we thought. Thanks again.
Another nice video my friend. That is one of my favorite Morakniv knifes I need to file my spine . nice job on the Peg and Pot hook making demo atb John
I just bought me the Morakniv Companion Heavy Duty Carbon Steel for $18 free shipping I am excited to check this knife out when I receive it. I subscribed BTW
Thank you for the sub, my friend! Let me know how you like the knife when you receive it! I know that you are going to love it, as I am very fond of mine! Congratulations on your purchase! -Dave
+Jon Cochran The HD is a bit more "robust" than the MG (standard Companion). The main difference is that the HD has a 3.2mm thick blade, while the MG is a thinner 2.5mm. The HD is also a bit longer overall and weighs 4.8 ounces, while the MG weighs about 4.1. I actually prefer the thinner, lighter MG but the HD is an excellent knife, as well. Great question! Thank you for watching and leaving your kind words, Jon! -Dave
Say Heah Dave, I have a Vintage MG Clipper 840. The difference between a Clipper and the Companion is the Clipper has a short Robust Tang and the Companion has a Longer more Slender Tang. The Hard Plastic on the Handle in Stratification Areas make them Very Strong.,,. p
HighCarbonSteel Love Dave we went back to finish the Perm Shelter. But the weather predict rain so I left my Battle Horse Combo and brought my Fox Parang Bushcraft Jungle Knife with my Mora Kansbol attached permanently to the Fox. The Star of the show was my Estwing Double Bit Hatchet, What a Tool, The Star of tge show. Yup we got hit by the storm, I ended up covering ourselves with the blue tarp. But lemme tell you the Estwing Double Bit Hatchet really rocks. Oh, that WoW Folding Saw really is fast, 1,2,3 and your through tge wood, You do have to get the rhythm. But once you do it's like super fast. It's tge teeth arrangement on it.,,. p
+livinright Thank you for watching, my friend! I love all things Morakniv, too! Well, except for their Mora Pathfinder and new full tang, expensive knife..haha! -Dave
I've been looking for another Mora. I only own one.....the LMF Mora which I love. This just might be the one. And I have a bastard file, so I could do what Mora should have done to the spine. But that's certainly not a deal breaker for me at all. What is a deal breaker for me is the new 100+ dollar solid tang Mora. I predict that it will be a loser for them as it completely goes against what made Mora's so famous in the first place. This Companion Heavy Duty knife is listed at $18.88....(or less and with free shipping!!!!!!)....right in line with the big bang for the buck original concept behind most Mora's. My LMF Mora has the same belt clip and I really like it....as it's very strong and allows me to easily attach the knife to my bags or pack. Much better than the belt loop that they produce in my opinion. AMB from Az :)
+Charles Larson The Mora LMF is an excellent knife! I like it very much. You would enjoy this one, too, my friend! I like the thinner Companion MG a little better, as it was my 1st ever bushcraft knife. I agree, a rounded off spine should not be a deal breaker. I've heard a lot of guys say they don't like certain knives because the spine isn't sharpe?! Yes, I also agree about the new $100 mora. I don't think it will do well, just like the mora pathfinder a few yrs ago. Expensive and just not in line with what morakniv is all about. The reason we love Moras is for the high value for the low price. I don't have any problem with the standard Mora sheaths, either. I actually like them! Thank you for watching and leaving your awesome comment, Charles! -Dave
+HighCarbonSteel Love Raining. And we need rain now to get the snow and ice gone. They say that there is snow still coming this weekend.. We will see. Summer is not far away now. :)
Mora make some of THE very best knives. Love Mora blade. Great bushcrafting skills there as well👍
I just ordered a Morakniv knife and I have never been more satisfied with a knife. When I go out in the woods, that knife is my partner
+Daniel Mcmahan Thats great! Which Mora did you pick up? They are very satisfying...not only are they outstanding knives, but the price is excellent! Thank you for watching! -Dave
yup weather is getting better the sun is getting brighter - cheers Dave
+guncotton 1 You are exactly right, my friend! Very well said...brightest sunshine of the year. I actually had to take that into account while filming. Seems like forever since I had to film around the beautiful sunshine. I love it! Than you for watching and it's great to hear from you! -Dave

+guncotton 1 Sounds like an excellent time staying busy, my friend! Can't wait for the videos! -Dave

Nice day to be out in the woods and practice your skills my friend.
+Nathan4071 Thank you, my friend! It was an absolutely beautiful day! -Dave
I watched this video when it first came out and purchased this knife in od green and I've used the heck out of this knife and it's still in good shape. It's one of the knives that I can say is worth every penny. very easy to keep sharp and with a forced patina it's easy to keep rust free.
I am happy to hear that the knife is working out well for you, my friend! Thank you for keeping us posted! -Dave
Thanks David ,, .Great job as all ways ..
+Terry Wydick Thank you for watching, Terry! I appreciate the kind words, my friend! -Dave

-Dave
4:05 - Those are some beautiful feathers you made!

I dropped my Spyderco Bushcraft in the leaves and it took about 1/2 hour to find so I had to add a bright lanyard and I am not a big fan of knife lanyards. Thank you for watching, woods! Nice to hear from you! -Dave
I just love all your Mora vids just great!
+SouthPaw Bushcraft Thank you, Dawn! I just love having you here to watch, my friend! How is your LT Wright doing? -Dave
+HighCarbonSteel Love Its doing very well! I took it out with Jessie and she used it a bit too to practice her skills. We had a great time. I just love it.
SouthPaw Bushcraft Great to hear, Dawn! -Dave
What's better than Mora Monday?... Mora Sunday! Nice job!
+cyclist01222 Haha! That is an awesome comment, my friend! I appreciate the kind words! Great to hear from you, brother! -Dave
I really dig the SpartanJohns channel. I've been watching him for a long time! I use a similar method for retention on my Mora knives, but instead of a slipknot I use a small spring cord-lock.
Sounds great, Dano! Thank you for watching, my friend! Great to hear from you! -Dave
Good video 👍
Great knife review and a quality video!
+fishing523 Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your nice comment, my friend! I really appreciate that! -Dave

+Common Sense Camper Thank you, Jeff! I appreciate you stopping by, brother! -Dave
I'm very happy with my companion HD
+MCKwilly It's an excellent knife! I never bought it because it's pretty much a Mora HQ Robust (which I have and love) but who am I to turn down an awesome gift? -Dave
that little mod is pretty crafty and clever I'm looking to buying 1due to several peoplesuggesting
Thank you for watching and leaving your kind words! If you pick one up, let me know how you like it! I think you will enjoy this knife a lot, as everyone should own at least one Morakniv! -Dave
HighCarbonSteel Love I've had 1 in the past but I gave it to my cousin for his 12th birthday
Awesome video, man! I really liked it. I bought the very same knife right today, so I was browsing in YT for something useful and I found you 👍
i use a loop of bungee cord instead of the paracord with the slip knot, to secure mi old MG companion (light duty)and works great.more quick and easy to secure stretching the bungee than slipping the knot
Sounds great! Thank you for watching! -Dave
Awesome video man That's a great Looking knife....
+James McIntyre Thank you for the kind words, James! I appreciate that, my friend! I love Mora knives! -Dave
Hi David! I hope all is well
My friend! Great to hear from you! All is well here and I hope the same for you and your family! -Dave

Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your very nice comment, my friend! It's great to have you here and please don't be a stranger! -Dave
What firesteel is that? It works amazing!
The only ferro rods/firesteels that I use are Nathan4071's. Affordable and outstanding, my friend! Thank you for watching and here is Nathan's eBay store -www.ebay.com/usr/nathan4071. -Dave
weird question but what kind of watch are you wearing in this video? I like it....
Not weird, at all, Ryan...it's actually a cheap, strong watch from Kohls. I think it cost me about $10. No real features on it but I was just looking for durability in the woods. Great question, my friend, and I appreciate you stopping by! -Dave
Have you heard anything about the mini knife price point
+Alfonso Casillas I have not heard anything about the price Alfonso. I am not a big fan, from what I have seen but hopefully they are affordable. Thank you for watching, my friend! -Dave
Hey David, what brand and model are those boots?
Thank you for watching, mister smith! The boots are the Dr. Martens Tamarack - www.planetshoes.com/item/dr.-martens-tamarack-st-9-tie-boot/30086. Some of the best boots I have ever owned! Nice to hear from you, my friend! -Dave
HighCarbonSteel Love Oh snap! I used to own a pair of Dr. Martins way back in the 80"s. Cool and thanks for the link my bro!!!
mister smith You are very welcome, my friend! I have always loved Dr. Martens! -Dave
cool video
Thank you, william! I appreciate you taking the time to watch, my friend! -Dave
I wonder what the new full tang 100 Dollar Mora(!) will be able to do that this knife can't? Good video, my friend.
-Dave
David, great video as usual, no Ember?
+Father and Son Adventures of Iowa (FSAIOWA) Thank you for the kind words, my friend! I don't take Ember into these woods because she has a tendency to chase wildlife...haha! But, it is her birthday this week so she might be making an appearance soon! Thank you for asking about her, I really appreciate that! -Dave
Wonder if this is there most popular knife. It's the first one i bought. Thanks for sharing Dave, makes me wanna go out and use mine
+lowwkey91 That is an interesting thought, my friend! I would be curious to know that too. My favorites are the Classics (#1 & #2), followed by the Mora Companion MG and the Bushcraft Black. Thank you for watching and have fun with your Companion HD! -Dave
I will go trekking next month. I think I know what knife to bring
I think you will love this knife! Affordable and outstanding knife! Thank you for taking the time to watch and leave your excellent comment! -Dave
Stainless steel or carbon ? . Mines stainless heavy duty .
Great Review and Demo Dave love the color and always love the Mora still got to sharpen my spine yet lol stay safe Brother and God Bless
+Yooper Digger57 Thank you for the kind words, my friend! I love the color, too! Nice to hear from you!
Daniel Kompolt Thank you for the kind words, my friend! I am happy that you found my channel and its great to have you here! -Dave
Which one do you prefer? Mora Companion? vs Robust or Companion HD?
All great knives but I prefer the Mora Companion MG. Thank you for watching! -Dave
Is the handle same as the high-Q robust and same size? Thanks! :-)
Yes, my friend, it's essentially the same knife except for color. Thank you for watching! -Dave
HighCarbonSteel Love Thanks for the replied :-)
Recently acquired a classic, fixing to order an O D green version of the blade in the video. Have you ever broken a Mora?
Another nice video my friend. That is one of my favorite Morakniv knifes I need to file my spine . nice job on the Peg and Pot hook making demo atb John
+Turtle Bushcraft Thank you for the kind words, John! I really appreciate that, my friend! -Dave
-Dave
I got the knife Yesterday and I love it so far, I haven't done much with it but it feels very quality and is razor sharp.
Bubbasizer That is so great to hear, my friend! -Dave
Sweet! What is the difference between the HD and the standard companion? Great video Sir!
-Dave
Thanks Dave!
Jon Cothran You are more than welcome, Jon! Thank you, too! -Dave
Say Heah Dave, I have a Vintage MG Clipper 840. The difference between a Clipper and the Companion is the Clipper has a short Robust Tang and the Companion has a Longer more Slender Tang. The Hard Plastic on the Handle in Stratification Areas make them Very Strong.,,. p
I agree! Thank you for watching! -Dave
It's tge teeth arrangement on it.,,. p
Sweeeet-love all things Mora!!! cool mod for retention and mod on spine for 90degree angle...great lookin blade! =)
+livinright Thank you for watching, my friend! I love all things Morakniv, too! Well, except for their Mora Pathfinder and new full tang, expensive knife..haha! -Dave
Hi! I have a Mora HD military green knife and i want to make a 90 degree spine. Do you remember the grid of the file that you used?
Should be a fine cut file.
-Dave
Nice.. :)
+Marcel Klein Thank you, Marcel! How is your weather? -Dave
+HighCarbonSteel Love Raining. And we need rain now to get the snow and ice gone. They say that there is snow still coming this weekend.. We will see. Summer is not far away now. :)
Marcel Klein Yes, nice weather right around the corner, my friend! -Dave
Love moras another great vid Dave A T B Andrew
+Andrew Simpson Thank you, Andrew! Through all the knives I have purchased and used, Morakniv is still #1 in my book! -Dave
