The only other UA-camr to nail this song is you and Paul McCartney. You nailed every note, ghost note, slide, hammer on , pull off, and even tabbed every correct note. Dude, I know you spent a lot of time on these songs. You are doing a great service of bringing these great older songs to the young and older musicians of today. You are a UA-cam national treasure, thank you sir.
Kinda disagree. There is a finesse, style, and flair in the intro to this that PMC is just so good at. Same with Another Day and Goodnight Tonight. He just has such a gentle handle on the bass. It's not like he plays it, but it's more of a caress. My favorite bass lines.
@@geteese George said that make the bassline simple. Now the bass in Something is really something, I've heard George didn't like it but that's one of the reason I repeat something. I mean all the instruments there and the harmony
Just so liked the way Paul threw so many beautiful variations in, subtle what I call "feel" variances to different verses and chorus runs, and found so many pretty places to go, and some great little minute rests just rare ones, that for me set him apart from a lot of others. And all while he sang, so beautifully, and lead the band generally. What a genius. I'm so glad I got to be alive when he is. What a blessing most of his work has been.
Excellent cover. Played to perfection. people are in wonder at how Paul can play these bass lines and sing at the same time...Practice. Lots and lots of practice. The Beatles played literally hundreds of shows and tens of thousands of hours perfecting their art before they even cut a record.
I just wanted to say that without you, I wouldn't be nearly as good at bass as I am. You are truly a bass hero worthy of his own internationally known signature bass.
AWESOME! Paul is such an underrated bass player, and this one rocks! I can't get over the fact that he plays that intricate pattern live AND SINGS AT THE SAME TIME! Great job!
Brilliant transcription and badass playing brother. I was looking for the isolated bass off the record and the search results were flooded with bass covers. So many just pump out the lick with straight 8th notes with no nuance whatever; same dynamics, same phrasing. You played this perfectly man. All the slides, mutes and hammers were spot on. So many people who try to play the McCartney bass "style" just grab a pick and think they'll magically sound like him. There's so much more to his style than "he played with a pick". The palm muting is key, the supple slides and pull off/hammer on's, the octave leaps, etc. They all make a huge difference. This one video is a masterclass. Bottom line is we bassists shouldn't be trying to "sound like" anybody; we should be aiming to play the best WE can play. The key is taking your influences and working their ideas into your own style. Excellent video...
McCartney is such a tasteful bass player whose genius is both subtle and overt. Honestly, he must naturally think melodically because his tunes sound so effortless on the surface when the truth is that they are extremely complex in places. The world will miss him when he goes.
Awesome play trough and such a useful teaching tool! Thank you! Just for my own ease of practicing: 0:45 pre-chorus 1 1:47 pre-chorus 2 2:17 bridge 1 3:10 bridge 2 4:10 bridge 3 5:15 stop-start 5:40 outro

Nice job. Such a fun song to play. My first bass song actually to learn well. I am not a bass player but figured I better learn. I am loving bass after 40 years of playing guitar. I tried this with both pick and fingers. The pic works and sounds like Paul but I have more fun playing with my fingers and just muting the strings to make it sound like I am using a pick. Nice bass and nice playing.
Man you are a awesome musician... all the work you put into the tabs and the playing is great.. I love how you play with a pick as well as finger style.. you have gotten me into working with a pick.. I was so against it for years but there are so many songs out there where you can tell a pick is being used..hope you have a great new year and thanks again for all your videos....have a great day..
To be honest I started playing 5 months a go and this one as been challenging so far , it's even harder than I thought , so many variations and different musical notes .
Even before I could understand what a Bass guitar was I was thrilled by that low thing playing in the back of the song...in this case not so much in the back.

Recently I've been learning slap bass including advanced techniques like double thumb. As I practiced I realize that this song would be great adapted to double thumb instead of a pick. The emphasize notes move around a bit, but it still works well.

Ok... Im a loyal viewer of your body of work here. Im a beginner bassist and all the teachers, pro musicians and the like always talk about finding your bass tone. Dude, does that Washburn have every freakin tone out there? I mean you got it about as close to the Ric4001 Paul plays this on. Your cover of Winonas Big Brown Beaver is about as close to that Carl Thompson that Les plays.... like EVERY cover you do, you can get that T24 to sound pretty damn close to every bass tone there is. Whats the secrect? Is it the bass, the amp, the midi line, like what gives? Thanks for all you do. I pretty much have learned all the songs I play from this channel and a few other. Kudos.
in few words is audio production and correct technique to create different tones. That's the real difference. You can achieve los of tones with different techniques
@CoverSolutions well thanks for your response... I know you're busy. I really love all your stuff. One of the 1st songs I learned was your cover of Tears for Fears "Head over Heels". Thanks again for all you do, it's very much appreciated.
Could you do See Your Sunshine, Sunshine Sometime (the vocal version, the instrumental on the RAM archive has no bass), London Town, Another Day, Love is Strange, or Loup?

I like this bassline. I consider McCartney a very good bassist. The bass he played on Something is wonderful.
For a guy who didn't want to play bass, yes, he nailed it X)
I ve Heard he simplyfied that bassline coz George told him it was "too noticable" in the mix.
