- Morning out on South Para reservoir trying to figure out a tough Golden Perch bite. While sticking at it I managed to tick of all 3 native freshwater species in Silver Perch, Golden Perch & Murray Cod. Along with a few Redfin to wrap up the South Para Quaddie!
Hope you enjoy 🎣

nice Karl.. great session.. was that the day I bumped into you there?..
Hey mate, this was before then. The day I bumped into you only managed 1 cod and 1 callop. Spent a fair time mapping the section up to the bridge. You manage a few?
alot of action out there with some nice catches!.. looked like fun! 👍👍💪💪
Thanks mate, was a fun session 🎣
Tell me my friends, can you eat the fish caught in the Para Reservoir? Enjoying your videos. I will be fishing from the bank. Too old to kayak, almost 70. Safer for me. Lol
Hello, thanks for reaching out 👋
You can eat the fish from South Para and I find the Redfin from there some of the cleanest looking fish. With the native species you must keep to the bag limits however with the Redfin tasting much better I let the native species go for fun and Redfin for the table. Make sure you have a fishing permit and read the rules and regs 👍 plenty of great fishing from the bank and bait fishing does very well also. Tight lines 🎣
@@Karl_Wild_Fishing Thank you very much. We loved redfin all those years ago and found they were great for the table. I am sure that hasn't changed. I will get my licence shortly so I can get in on the fun. Keep up the videos, it keeps me motivated. Well done. 😊👍🐟🎣
What lb line and leader mate
This was awesome by the way loved every minute glad i came over to check out your channel 👍🏼
4 species in one day in the fresh is definitely a great day out
Looks like a beautiful spot to fish nice yellas in that area or callop as you guys call them in SA 👍🏼
Was definitely a great upgrade on them after the smaller ones at the start
Ripper of a fight on that gear
Ps what did you get that cod on?
Hey mate glad you enjoyed the video!
Was happy to tick off all the species in the one day. (Apart from Carp)
I don’t remember exactly what leader I was running that day but the braid is 12lb Siglon Adv PE with either 8 or 10lb Rock FC. I was just waiting for that cod to find something to bust me on…. 1-3kg rod doesn’t have much pulling power against that 😂 I have a mully video which I caught a decent fish on 4lb same combo and braid. So it does punch above it’s class 😉
Yeah South Para is probably my favourite impoundment here but shuts down hard in winter.
The old SA callop don’t like the cold haha
Think pretty much all fish came on the V42 Prolure blade with hand tied assists.
Glad you enjoyed mate, keen to watch more of your adventures also 🎣
@@Karl_Wild_Fishing cheers for the response mate appreciate all the information
Ohh nice I run the same for my topwater set-up I love the siglon Sunline,
That is some light cod fishing I like it think next time I'm going to fish a little lighter except with the real big lures
I will definitely be here watching more as well
Got me "hooked" with the light set-up chasing cod
But yeah definitely have to be a little lucky for them not to take you back into the snags 👍🏼
@@Karl_Wild_Fishing nice work on the blade I didn't even know prolure made blades will take a look at them
Love the fight you get from a blade the fish just seem to go harder
No worries mate.
Yeah I’m running Adv PE on pretty much all my combos now. Great stuff 👌
Wouldn’t say I target cod on that setup but have picked up a fair few as by-catch when targeting goldens. Normally run heavier baitcaster setups for my cod fishing.
Yeah the Prolure do a great blade. One of my favs 👌
Hey mate love the channel! Im a fishing newbie lol only ever really caught carp in the Murray on a basic hook line and sinker setup. Just wondering what sort of jigs/setup I'd need for south para? (Fishing from the shoreline)
Hey mate glad you are enjoying the content. I’m hoping to add more content to help newbies in the future as you gotta start somewhere ☺️👍 as for basic bait rigs the two I’d look into is a typical Paternoster Rig or a Running Sinker Rig with worms should get you onto a few. As for the setup you don’t need to go out and get anything special and if you have a basic rod and reel that should do the job 👍
@@Karl_Wild_Fishing Cheers mate, appreciate it. Will definitely look into those setups!
Awesome video mate! South para is my local but ive never been there yet. How do you rate it compared to myponga and HV? And first time advice? Yak based.
Cheers in advance legend
Thanks mate, South Para is definitely my favourite ressie of all near Adelaide. It’s definitely the most challenging of the bunch over the colder months. When it gets warmer 15 - 20+ native in a session casting is quite achievable. The quality of fish is also in my opinion is a step above the rest. Fair chance for a 80cm+ Cod & 50cm+ Golden.
A lot more water than HV and not as obvious structure wise as Mypo. Most banks have at south para have produced fish for me at some point so would just recommend covering water until you find them. 🎣
@Karl_Wild_Fishing awesome mate. I went down for an hr this afternoon land based and got a 38cm redfin. Keen for the weekend now!
What a good day out Karl, well done on the quad and that big callop was a beauty. You really seem to be getting SP wired.
Thanks Frank, it was a long video…had to get pretty ruthless with the editing so a handful of fish didn’t get to show their face haha. I was stoked to get a couple of better callop late after dropping that one early. (Was about 45-47cm I reckon)
I spent multiple days out on the ressie early in the year when the water level was right up and managed to contour map most of the main basement which I think is starting to pay dividends now being able to predict where the fish might be hiding…
Do yk if there are any yabbies/shrimp there
Yeah depending which ressie they are both found. But you can’t use shrimp or yabbie nets in our reservoirs.
@@Karl_Wild_Fishing how can ya catch em?
@@Karl_Wild_Fishing and I'm talking about south para
Another great session 😎
Thanks maté appreciate it 😊👍
Good fishing Karl. You just fishing small blades for sounder work? Jackall TN60’s are the only lures I’ve pulled fish on in there, so far. It’s a great place with plenty of options and the better callop and cod are really stacking on the weight😊👍
Thanks mate, in this video I just fished blades as I found they were sitting a bit deeper. I’ve only managed a couple on TN’s in South Para both from the edge. I haven’t had much interest fishing them deep. Spinnerbaits and bladed jigs go well along the edges I find. Also seem to catch the better quality ones.
It’s definitely my favourite reservoir at this stage and offers many styles of fishing which I love. Plus it’s absolutely stacked with food so the fish are so healthy!
@@Karl_Wild_Fishing and it’s only going to get better!🙏😊
