I had a spinal recently for major foot surgery. A bit uncomfortable but no more. I could sense the needle go in, but not with any great pain, and got a brief, strange "sciatic" kind of discomfort - like a hot feeling on your spine. Then the anesthetic took over and it was fine. I was actually more worried about being numb and essentially "paralyzed", but even this wasn't a problem. Strangely, when you're lying still and not trying to move, you'd barely know you'd had it - you could swear you could "feel" your legs somehow. It's only when I looked down and saw the anesthetist lifting my leg, sticking a big needle in and me feeling nothing I realized I was totally numb! Wore off in the 3 hours following the surgery and no problems since.
I had to undergo through it 3 times, as i got 3 spinal anesthesia for 1 surgery because of 2 spinal failure, even third one didn't work on me .At last they gave me general anesthesia. And now suffering from severe back pain 😢😢

I had undergone Anterior cruciate ligament repair in my R knee, the anesthesiologist had given me Spinal anaesthesia. Now I am seeing hell, it's already 3 days I am have so much orthostatic headache. I don't know when will able to stand without throbbing Head ache. It's hell that I am seeing, bed ridden. Had I known the implications of Post anesthesia trauma, I would have managed with a torn ACL, but not undergone such such risky associated procedures.
Bro, i am suffering for herniated disc since last 2 years and i am 20 now, are you completely fine after surgery, and what are the after effects. And pain at site
@@jasonglenmenezes they will give u the general anaesthesia first ,it will numb that area n after that they will do the main procedure ,u won't feel anything or any pain .. once the medicine injected in ur spine u will immediately feel a wave like pattern going all the way down to ur legs with little bit of tingling sensation n that's all .... U won't be able to move or feel ur lower body within seconds.
@@faithjonsson it took around 8 to 10 days to completely disappear. First few days I was completely bed ridden. Could not even lift my head. I wonder if it was an incorrect procedure adopted by the Anaesthesist for giving spinal anaesthesia.
San Xavier....sorry to hear that you had to suffer from spinal headache, also known as Post Dural Puncture Headache..it is not common to have it though ...if occurs is more often in young females during caesarean section....exact cause is not known...there are a few theories ...even a perfectly done spinal injection may unfortunately result in this..as you correctly mentioned it goes away in 5-7 days...but you need to really lie flat and rest and take plenty of oral fluids.
The spinal needle has to be firmly held in place while the syringe is attached... especially if u r using luer lock syringes...always aspirate for CSF after syringe attached to confirm that needle has not moved in or out.
I have disc prolapse issue in my L4-L5 & L5-S1 region. Now I am 32 week pregnant. I want to do planned c-section. Is there ll be any issue about my spinal anaesthesia?
You need to metion it to your gynaecologist and Anaesthetist . You would need to be physically examined by the Anaesthetist in advance to make a safe plan.
How long should I keep the patch on my back on? And I had an inguinal hernia surgery in which I had this spinal anesthesia and now I am having pain on my left shoulder blade and on my head is this the side effect of this anesthesia??!?!!
.... the first prick of the needle in the spine... is that done after giving local anaesthesia or just like that .... although i am brave ... but still won't allow someone put it there 😂🤣😂
As shown in the video...local anaesthesia is first given and then the very fine spinal needle is introduced....it's much finer than the needle poked to collect your blood for tests! Local is given so that you can stay steady during the injection and the delicate process of injecting the medication in the right place.

Is a local anaesthetic given first before proceeding with the spinal anaesthetic?
yes

Can spinal anaesthesia is given to Ankylosing spondylitis patients?
It can be attempted. In early stages of the disease you may be successful...as disease progresses the ligaments get calcified.. then it gets difficult
Why is the introducer placed at an angle of 10-15 deg?
that's becoz the angulation of spinous processes at the lumbar level.
