Thanks very much! I'm getting my EWI in a few days. I've been playing clarinet for 50 years and your very clear instruction will help shorten my learning curve.
Thanks - Exceptionally good presenter & presentations; I wish my latin, maths, music, in fact all my teachers, were so calm, clear, articulate and engaging.
Hi Alistair, Thanks so much for these fantastic videos. I bought my EWI on ebay last week and watched your series of lessons, holding the instrument, and making adjustments as I went along. As a consequence I was up and running at the end of day one.
Thank you so much. I own a music instruction studio. I'm now using this instrument now for woodwind instruments. You videos are excellent and time saving!
These lessons helped me very much to improve the handling of the EWI. Keep going with your videos. They are very well presented and very clear as the manual for the EWI is not well written or sometimes even confusing.
Thanks Alistair, your videos have given me some insight in understanding and developing a strong desire to obtaining control over this instrument. It is a different animal, but a wonderful find. Thanks for your taking the time to produce your tutorials. After my initial investment; the EWI, interface, laptop, stand, etc. - being married, I've hit my limit for the time being:). And I hope that you're getting paid for providing the tutorials. You're providing a great service for AKAI & customers.
Alistair, I have played the WX5 and I retrofitted a Casio DH to perform very well, going back to the early 1990's. I took a break to attend grad school for 7 years on a couple degrees. I started back playing a WX5 in 2009 and then switched to the EWIUSB which I found to be less musical. But recently, I upgraded my EWIUSB to the 4000S. At first, I was unable to even produce a sound. I read the instructions and found that you must adjust the sensitivity settings first. But then I came upon your lessons and WOW! My playing with just the stock sounds, the reverb, delay, breath techniques and changes has made this the controller I have always dreamed of. Thank you so much for advancing my experience!
Thank you!! One day, while I was playing, the sound suddenly changed so I thought something was wrong with my ewi. But it was the screw button. Great job on your tutorials!
Hi, very nice and informative videos. I just got an EWI a few days ago and I was looking for some help until I found yours. I like the way you explain the set up of the instrument, it is clear and to the point. I can't wait to see more of your lessons. Thanks.
Great job! Clears up a lot of doubt about setting my EWI. I would like to see more of your videos on getting other sounds, particularly on how to setup soft synths to work with the EWI.
Thanks for the lessons. I just received my 4000s a few days ago..and thanks to your lessons, I'm actually getting a sound out of it. The owner's manual didn't help me get a sound. This 4000s is pretty cool, and I'm excited to see if I can do some justice with it.
Great!!!....makes the instruction book "more" understandable, Alistair...More videos would be fantqstic, especially about playing with software, I really have no experience with anything like that....I have had one for about 8 months, tonite I will try to tine tune it with FX!!!....good job...
@GrooveBubbles True. I have still not heard an EWI really sounding luscious, like a moog, or vintage synth. It's the midi sound palets I'm not convinced by. I can't afford on but would love to add an EWI to my sax playing. Your video is good.
Excellent explanation in detail. My reluctance to go EWI is I have yet to hear a sound that really grabs me. I understand it will not reproduce the tone of a sax, but the synth sounds are too artificial to really make me want to save up and buy one.
Sir, you are a great teacher. Please continue producing this videos. What about MIDI adjustment. Any advice from you. Akai should be thankful to you, for expanding Ewi use with your teaching. Thanks!!!
Hi I’ve had my EWI for many years and never felt I was good enough on the instrument so I am enjoying your lessons on the EWI! One thing though I tried your lesson 6 to try and change the FX on sound #2 and the reverb never worked! The delay worked fine, just the reverb never worked. I followed your tutorial over and over but couldn’t get it to work. I did try the over all reverb and that worked fine. Have any suggestions? Thanks, Noel Catura
Could just be that the reverb switch on that sound is off so changing the settings won’t work. You’d have to get a sound editor to get deeper into the settings.
Hi I haven't yet bought my Ewi 4000 But I really want one. I play guitar an piano. an I am sure your Vidios will help me tremendously when i buy i.t 2 questions where did you buy your selves they are really cool also love your screen saver...thanks for your vids keep up the good work can't say enough very informative...
Hi Alistair. I have watched all your lessons and very much impressed by all of them. Wish I can play like you someday. I am new to EWI5000 or to any wind instrument. Can you share some fingering techniques like changing keys while playing? Like from key of C to bFat or any key. I viewed Joanne Jons playing "SOMEWHERE" in youtube changing keys while playing. Can you recommend a school that teaches EWI5000 through internet or do you teach basic fingering lessons?
Hi Alistar, Thank you for all these lessons !! I'm wondering what kind of sound you used (on lesson 6) at the very end of your lesson when you played and demonstrated the adjustments..? Could you let me know ? I did like that sound a lot !! Thank you so much in advance !!!
Hi. I’m pretty sure that was one of the sounds from the Patchman set, available from Patchman sounds website. My favourite sound is the EVI 2000 sound which I think this is. It was a while ago.
Hi Alistair, My roller octave control does not work on the last roller. Any tips ? There are 7 spaces with thumb between rollers. Using them with single touch does not activate lower 2 below knurled AWSOME TEACHING VIDEOS. please help
Mr. Alister, what sound are you playing on this video ? I start playing the armonica two years ago and now I bought one EWI USB and I would like to learn this sound on my EWI. Thanks a lot for your lectures. Thans Rafa
Alistair, hope you can help me with this one, i use to have a WX5 nice instrument, now I have a EWI5000 but I can get any sound, only when I am not playing sound comes, what do you think do I need to fix it ???
hello, my name is Lomar and I recently got the akai 5000 and I am having a hard time figuring out how to install sounds onto the 5000 itself. Is there a particular software i need to purchase?
There is a feature in the owners manual (page 18) that is supposed to allow assigning programs to keys. On my instrument I don't get the flashing numbers after pressing the program key and the setup key. I spoke to technical support and they were puzzled by it. Does any one have a suggestion?
***** No. In fact there is also a brass style fingering system that you can select on it for trumpet players. Google "EVI fingering on EWI4000s" for details. There is no complicated embouchure required on the EWI like on an acoustic instrument.
+Manny Tuzman Hi. As I’ve said before, it’s a very personal choice. No one instrument can do everything the best way for each player. Many keyboard players use different instruments for different things. That’s how I see the wind synth market. The Aerophone is excellent for a beginner and much easier than the EWI to get started on. I love the thumb lever and the iOS editor. For pure wind synth sounds my favourite is the 4000. My 5000 is broken and I can’t find anyone to fix it at the moment. In the last 18 months the AE-10 has become me my main instrument. You really need to think carefully about the features of each unit and decide how YOU will use it. Just remember if you try them out in a shop they very often won’t be set up that well. It takes time to get the best results, just like any instrument.
is it harder/more difficult to play than a real saxophone? is this the model with standard MIDI or USB? i am a keyplayer and want a windinstrument, got a melodica, but to noisy...for the neighbours i mean...! thank´s - Levi
Great tutorials for wind-controller players.... such effort is very well appreciated in the growing wind-controller community..... I assume you have also the Yamaha VL70m in your setup? If so, you might appreciate the availability of an advanced editor and librarian software - www.vl70m-editor.com/site/
Great instructional video. Yet the interface of the instrument itself is just horrible. Press and hold this + press this once/twice plus another key etc.etc. That's an interface you can hardly name an interface. No offence to you though, you're a great teacher.

Well done on a series well taught. You are an excellent educator.

Alistair, hope you can help me with this one, i use to have a WX5 nice instrument, now I have a EWI5000 but I can get any sound, only when I am not playing sound comes, what do you think do I need to fix it ???
Hi. I am not able to hear any sounds from the ewi and I don't see anything on the display when I press the screw.
What sound was that mate? Do I need to download that particular one of the net? Thanks
I use the PatchmanMusic sounds for the EWI4000s
hello, my name is Lomar and I recently got the akai 5000 and I am having a hard time figuring out how to install sounds onto the 5000 itself. Is there a particular software i need to purchase?
Hi. You can't add sound to the Akai 5000 you can only alter the sounds that are already in there.
thanks i m going to buy it I ll folow your master class-
Could you play this through a UE Boom Bluetooth speaker
is the sax really worth buying? i would like to record music is it easier on this?

Do you have to play the Saxophone in order to play the EWI? Because I feel like bying an EWI and learn it that way.
***** No. In fact there is also a brass style fingering system that you can select on it for trumpet players. Google "EVI fingering on EWI4000s" for details. There is no complicated embouchure required on the EWI like on an acoustic instrument.
Whats something you would tell someone who just got an Ewi Today♥
Watch and learn from the great players and practice hard.

@snowypetrel: so you should buy a real sax for realistic sound!
this is a synthesizer...it's intentionally made for synthetic sound.
Great instructional video.
Yet the interface of the instrument itself is just horrible. Press and hold this + press this once/twice plus another key etc.etc.
That's an interface you can hardly name an interface.

i play my flute into a vocal effect processor, and i can do the same thing...
