Also, my take on Jack's kill count is probably from "making monsters disappear" BUT just like it happened there with Ted/ManThing, is that he doesnt actually kill them, just moves them elsewhere so they dont get killed by another hunter
Yup. He shot the whole thing in color but viewed everything live through a special monitor that showed how everything would look in black and white. Upper execs were very aprehensive but only on the third cut was it given the thumbs up to go BW
Loved this style. So much cool shit and brutal action with a simple story and likeable characters that don’t need to joke all the time. Haven’t been this impressed by a marvel project since the first guardians.
As to the time this is set: 1) There are gravestones that have people's death dates in the 1960s. 2) The casual ability to pick something like sushi for dinner suggests an era of convenience especially since sushi in the United States wasn't really available until the 1960s (1990s for Europe). My hunch is that this takes place modern day. IMO the color at the end is supposed to hint that this wasn't really in the past at all, and everything that might have hinted as such was a red herring.
And I think what people arent talking at all are the guards with the shock sticks and their get-up. They felt intentionally out of place and from modern era
My take on the "100 deaths" thing was that the creepy stepmother had asked each hunter how many confirmed kills they had for her presentation and the werewolf guy said 100 deaths because he doesn't like to think of the 100 plus people he's murdered in werewolf form as kills. He's not proud of them and tries to disassociate himself from his wolf side like he says to Elsa in the cage.
As a trivia, Jack (or Jack's family) got cursed by Dracula in the comics, maybe that's why who pointed to the vampire that "he battled a couple of times"
Since this was a short special presentation I wish that had more room to really lean into that 1940s film style. It also needed more Man Thing killing people before he was fully revealed.
I wish we had been watching stuff like this for the past 8 weeks. This was so good. Love the action, love the characters and the campiness. Had a bunch of good laughs and some real "Oh shit" moments. Marvel intro was lit, Ted is the GOAT. I always laughed at the guy with the crank, and I loved the Black and white choice because it was so well done. It was so good I'm MAD that it ended. That 55 minutes really blew by.

Absolutely loved this, seeing the black and white trailer and homage to old school pulp horror gave me hope this would be good and it over delivered. Great music, great acting, great story, and great action, have me wanting more of this so much. Whoever directed the action sequences in this needs to be bumped up to the movies ASAP. The two parts Nick pointed out were incredible standouts to me as well because of how creative and intuitive they were. It reminded me a lot of John Wicks fight scenes where John uses everything he can possibly think of to his advantage to kill people, combined with a stylish flair to not make it too realistic. Moments where in traditional action scenes, someone should be dead because they have their back turned, are exposed or end up on the ground, actually end up in death here. As well it had some excellent flash with the Werewolf to mixed in too. Giacchino knocked it out of the part, and that Blade movie is looking for a new director!
The step mom was also in Frasier, and Desperate Housewives, she's fantastic! Update: Greg mentioned that shortly after I typed this comment lol, glad ya'll dropped Frasier!
The 100 “kills” weren’t his kills because he doesn’t kill the monsters so he probably freed or hid them making it look like he got kills, that’s what I thought.
In regards to the 100 deaths statement, I too thought it meant he might've died previously, whether actually 100 times or not. But then I wondered if Jack said it differently to cover up not actually killing anyone, but not necessarily lying, and the Stepmom just so happened to repeat it that way. No matter what, it was a very interesting way to make sure you knew he was different. I hope they do something like this every year.

I dont know much about Elsa Bloodstone but when she said she had a different teacher, and then does some very acrobatic movements, i was hoping she was a widow
I think that now since there are 4 people to review these, in times of tie, it should be chosen by the lowest common denominator, Greg and Tim wanted on 14 so they also agree that it is 19, by proxy. So it should be 19.
@8bitdee I disagree. You can't tell a good she hulk story with only 50 minutes special. Either series or a movie works. Special like these are for non important characters
