Try doing fencing work from home ! Try landscaping four days a week …..customers won’t pay and in this economy can’t pay people for working four days for four days work . Politicians are pollocks , just total idiots

I have worked from home for 9 years, its such a complex argument that requires NO government intervention! Yes, a benefit to me is flexibility, I can work an hour extra very easily and take that hour back to go and play golf, aiding my physical fitness.
The downside is mental health, finding it hard to switch off, separating work from home life, collaboration with colleagues (they can hide behind remote working, they can't hide in an office if you go over to their desk!)
I'd suggest this awful labour party focusses on what the public wants, and leaves working practices to workers and their employees.
Now get the Navy in the channel and turn these boats back!!!!

Agree with most of what you have written. If anything I find it hard to switch off UNLESS I have checked my emails to ensure there is nothing bad lurking or waiting for attention. If I know everything is covered I am switched off and chilled. Like you say, leave it to employers/employees.

Sound like Billy has already had his 14 pints for the day.

I am fully on board with WFH and flexible working. I will never go back to 5 days in the office and currently do 3/2, but expecting not to answer any emails or phone calls outside of strict hours as a hard and fast rule is utterly ridiculous. I check my emails out of hours, and its great, because it means that I can keep on top of things, can deal with customers all over the world while keeping the flexibility and WFH arrangements that I now cherish and wouldnt give up. You cant have it all, there has to be give and take in a work relationship. That being said, they do need to toughen workers rights around dismissal and redundancy, utterly ridiculous what companies can get away with.

As always there are winners and losers, I feel that a lot of people who have physical jobs see yet another example of the cushy life of the laptop classes compared to their own.

Billy Hague is a bit of a wet. The starmer regime will be very short lived. Not really sure he or sunak wanted to be PM.

Ive run a busines from home full time in the past . Up at dawn, finished at 7pm . No weekends...I have two family members that WFH part of the week and they are not much better off. One is a managerial position , one a supervisor and production worker There isnt an off button . At work you can go to lunch, have a bathroom or coffee break. Not at home you cant.
Ive heard one of them in the loo , talking away on the phone....

The right to work from will further damage team building and collaboration, it will reinforce the sense of inter generational detachment, and will intensify the shortfalls of interpersonal skills - especially amongst the younger members of the workforce. Gains in productivity come from investment in technology, sharpening of focus on younger key outcomes and streamlining processes, and more effective collaboration. This policy will deliver the opposite. Not yo mention it will cement a lack of footfall and therefore spend in many of our town and city centres.

Free dresses for Mrs S not declared, labour slum landlords providing free mould and rats, donors given passes to Downing Street, and civil service jobs politicising the CS. Not bad going for 2 months.
