Three years ago, a hack of Mega Man 3 called “Mega Man 3 Ultimate” was released by romhacker TheSkipper1995. It was meant to be a relatively simple hack built on top of KujaKiller’s “Mega Man 3 Improvement”, rebalancing some of the game’s level design and difficulty curve. At the time, the hack was considered satisfactory if a bit conservative in its changes to the base game.
Early this year, at the behest of fellow romhacker DangerDoodle, TheSkipper1995 was convinced to continue work on Mega Man 3 Ultimate with some simple graphical updates. Over the next several months, however, with the programming assistance of KujaKiller, DurfarC, and MartsINY, the project grew into something far more substantial than Mega Man 3 Ultimate. This is “Mega Man 3 Revamped!”
Mega Man 3 Revamped’s purpose is to be a highly polished and streamlined version of Mega Man 3 for people who may not have liked the original game due to its rushed, unpolished development.

Glad to see Proto Man starts out as Break Man in this hack. It didn't make sense that he appeared first as Proto Man, reappears later as Break Man ONCE, then stays Proto Man again for the rest of the series. The Mega Man Megamix/Gigamix mangas also introduced him as Break Man first, as the leader of the Sniper Joes and Mega Man point-black Mega Busters him in the face, destroying the face portion of the Break Man mask, then revealing Proto Man underneath. A way better introduction.
No it DOES make sense he appears as break man. He isn’t a leader of the sniper joes
No that introduction sucks
@@jess648No it doesn’t
@@firestrikerii810it's most likely a case of sprites and time
Its just a mask
megaman 3 finally got the love it deserved. it was rushed but now the things that got left out before are finally back in this game.
Wow you played this, awesome. Just want to say, many little edits were done by me (programming-wise only) - like the extra event with breakman transforming back to proto before start of wily levels, the multi path support in wily 2, just a whole bunch of tiny little things here and there.
Hmm have you ever considered making a potential magnet man doc robot stage, since there were tiles which proves it's existance
It's true there's un-used graphics present in the magnet man tileset. But i never intended to make a standard level hack with this project.
I've said it to countless people over and over that i wasn't going to change any of the level designs like normal hacks. I wanted this to be as "romhack friendly" as possible so people can use MM 3 improvement for their own mm 3 hacks.
It's best for a person to use mm3 improvement "first" as the base of their hack rather than going way too far in the hack developement "then" applying mm3 improve.
Oop, well I was just curious to what a Magnet man doc robot stage would be since there does seem to be a trap and even a snakeman protoman breaker.
@@turrican3839 perhaps there was 8 doc robot stages at one point
all those tiny changes really add up to a more polished and fun MM3 experience
the Wily stages have been improved dramatically for instance. The intro probably should’ve mentioned Break Man/Proto Man though
Even with all the glitches and roughness, MM3 is my favorite Mega Man. Can't wait to see what you've done here!
This hack makes the Dr. Wily stages actually feel like real challenging stages;
in the original version, they felt almost like those kinds of stages that you sometimes get as passageways on the way to the final boss lair, which have minimal challenge and have a bunch of items lying around everywhere.
This went from "Pretty neat" to "Extremely impressive" once it reached the Wily stages.
I actually found this revamped version only yesterday, and I replayed the Dr. Wily stage 3-4 all day long because the music is already awesome and the upgrades are so wonderful. Words can't describe how bad I want this game to be in the Mega Man 3 remake (as I voted in Capcom survey)
Playing this was delightful.
New aesthetics and very clever level design brought new life in this underworked part.
A little on the easy side but has a good difficulty curve.
It's amazing how far a little bit of polish can go towards taking a good game and making it fantastic.
Holy shit? MM3 with good level design and non-bland backgrounds? Where has this been all my life?
I wonder what Inafune and Kitamura would say if they saw this?
Theyd probably say that it feels closer to what it was originally intended to be, or something on those lines
Apparently, Inafune was never very satisfied with Mega Man 3, because the initial development was a bit of a wreck and that meant the final game was basically cobbled together from whatever they could salvage. This is why there are so many things about it that are strange; it's the remnants of things they couldn't fit in the game.
That said, aside from the intro, there's not a lot that feels like unplanned MM2 stuff.
Kitamura: woah, this is great
Inafune: Where is the Zero DLC?
@@NONE.Dragon 😂😂😂
This feels like what Mega Man 3 could've been had it not been unfinished. And by unfinished, I mean...it had the introduction to better explain the story.
Currently doing a playthrough myself- while I’m disappointed Doc Needle’s infamous Rush Jet section wasn’t fixed, this has otherwise been a really neat reimagining and fleshing-out of the game! All that’s left is Wily Castle... and my God did they ever fix the Wily Castle intro. Though as far as I know that could just be a change from Improvement (the mod this is based on).
I saw my favorite UA-camr Silent Rob complete this game. Words cannot express how amazing this game is.
THIS IS WHAT MEGA MAN 3 SHOULD HAVE BEEN.
Unrushed Wily stages. More challenging level design. Creative touches. Easy weapon select. Etc etc etc.
This needs to be put on an NES cart ASAP so I can throw my money at it!!!!!!
I actually vote for Mega Man in Capcom survey and suggest them to include this version for Mega Man 1-2-3 remake
@@awang_ir what vote?
Wow! This hack reminds me of how Simon's Quest Redaction improved CV2, onky with new level designs. I love how there's actually an intro, and how Mega Man's pose looks more like that of the Wily Wars version of MM3.
Neat that they moved Wood man. Needle man 2 is virtually the same. Some changes were made for the sake of change, but all in all its a faithful conversion with a good learning curve for new player or seasoned Megaman players. I'll check it out. Only lets play I've ever watched the whole way through!

"[...] rushed, unpolished development."
Mega Man 3 is my favourite Classic Mega Man game.
EDIT: Friendship ended with Mega Man 3, now Mega Man 9 is my best friend.
Professor Trick Room I disagree with Megaman 9 but I gotta give it a like anyways
That was me but with Mega Man 6 and then preferring 7.
Big Boy Both are tied as my favorite Mega Man games
Mega Man 3 was one of my favorites as a kid, over the years I have grown to realise where it felt rushed in some ways.
Actually, contrary to what many believe, MM3 wasn't rushed. In fact, none of the Mega Man games were (not even X6. Check prototype screenshots to see what I mean). The real issue in hand is the lack of memory.
Mega Man 3 was built in 3 megs, while this hack was built under twice the memory (6 megs), and yet, Mega Man 3 managed to cram in more stages than any other Mega Man game despite 4-6 being built on 4 megs.
Almost all of the stages have new assets as well, even the Doc Robot stages with different, more "ruffled" tiles to build the terrain (ie Doc Needle and Doc Spark) which of course takes up more memory for base Mega Man 3. With more cart space however, more can be built, like this ROM hack proves.
I like how the Doc Robot stages are recolored.
They should have been eliminated altogether. What kind of revamp is this?
This is fantastic work. You can tell the creators put some love into this, doing their best to make the game what I possibly could have been with more development time.
As is, it’s my favorite game of all time, but seeing it like this is also fantastic. Maybe I’ll see it before the video ends, but did they do anything to make Spark Shock better as well?
If this Mega Man had a way to power up any weapon he receives after destroying a Robot Master like from the MMX series, here is what the names/effects would be for each one:
Magnet Missile -- Magna Crush (A giant magnet appears -- pulling enemies and some bosses with enough force to do critical damage)
Gemini Laser -- Gemini Flash (Same effects as Flash Man's time stopper; Allows MM to attack continuously w/ M-Buster until Weapon Energy is depleted -- Does not work against certain bosses)
Needle Cannon -- Heavy Javelin (An attack that hurls a needle-encrusted spear at an enemy)
Hard Knuckle -- Savage Fist (MM rushes at an enemy and punches VERY HARD -- Dealing massive damage; Enough to kill Top Man in 2 hits but depletes WE by half -- Whether it hits or not)
Search Snake -- Eye of Medusa (Does what the name would imply -- Turns enemies into statues/stepping platforms. Useful if you're conserving Rush Coil or Rush Jet energy)
Spark Shock -- Electro Pulse (Short circuits most enemies in one hit -- Works well against Magnet Man as it prevents him from using his powers to pull you in)
Shadow Blade -- Bushido Edge (MM fires 2 Shadow Blades instead of one; Full damage effects are retained if used up-close and personal on Spark Man)
Top Spin -- Tornado Zone (Same effects as Top Spin but the attack blows enemies upward to deal additional damage; Shadow Man is defeated in 2 direct hits instead of Top Spin's 4 hits)
Not to be taken literally but would be fun to see -- ;)
in other words, if Megaman had the ability to charge his other weapons like he could for the Wild Coil
Being someone who has the MM3 cart (I swear, it's in my closet right this moment), I do like the subtle changes to the menus, the addition of the prologue and just the overall QoL adjustments.
From what I can tell, I only have two little things that I have thoughts on. The stage start screen, the boss preview needs to be centered better, it's too low. Also, and this is preference, on the Weapon Get...why not follow the Wily Wars example and have Mega Man flash white and come back with the new weapon colors?
But, yes, overall, I do like the improvements.
Wow, great job to all the programmers and mod hackers who made this rom version of MM3. I imagine that THIS mod is exactly what Keiji Inafune and the other Capcom team members wanted the original game to be like.
One of my favourite games of all time! Great gameplay Amy Rose! One thing I’ve noticed and I like - a lot, is during the Wily Stage refights, rather than the music reverting to the boss music each time, the Wily Stage music continues instead, it sounds a lot better in my opinion. During the refights if you used the favoured weapon to defeat the boss with, the music lasts barely a few seconds otherwise lol.
When I saw the video I really wanted to play it myself, and it was no exception... Megaman 3 has always been my favorite game that even if I repeat it I never get bored of it.
Having played the improvement version I liked that it was polished and have a story... but seeing this version that added more things, better scenes and longer (especially Dr.Willy) this was really a smile on my face I enjoyed this version a lot, what's more... I enjoyed it like a child when I had bought it as if it were the day it came out...
When repeating boss fights on Wiley's stage, I think it's a great sense to keep the background music unchanged.
Yes! A very fresh touch indeed. After all, the music has already been my favorite
It still pains me to think what a magnet man doc stage would have been like
I sometimes ask myself where the MM2 bosses would end up if all 8 MM3 stages had Doc stages - you would need to make sure that they fit the stages' themes reasonably well and things like that.
I guess that Air Man would be moved to Snake Man's stage, just because of that outdoor cloud part at the end of the original stage, and Wood Man might have been moved to Hard Man's stage since this would fit the wilderness theme with all the monkeys.
What makes you think there was supposed to be a Magnet Man doc robot stage? Genuinely asking because I’ve never heard this.
@@ericmsandoval pre-release screenshots of Mega Man 3 showcase that where Spark Man is supposed to be located to the top left, Magnet man takes his space and Spark Man is in the middle bottom, there are unused tiles and graphics in the game that have broken-down foreground graphics and even a trap
There's a ROM-hack by Small Apple called Rockman 3: Dr. Wily no Saigo! which, in addition to being harder (and giving the robot masters different weaknesses - my favorite being that each Gemini twin is vulnerable to a different weapon), gives the Doc Robot stages to the other four so you get your Magnet Man Doc stage
@@Vistico93 can you please send the link to the hack, I'd actually like to try that out since I already have Wily Wars and Mega Man 3 Revamped, that'd be great!
Gotta love the recolored Napalmman Stalactites in Hardman's caves
I love that the stage gimmicks are introduced in safe environments that pose little threat to the player. It's that classic Megaman conveyance
Cool to finally see an intro

I remember watching my brother play this game for hours when we were younger.😊
I like that this version fixed the parts on the start of the second half of Doc Gemini Man and the beginning of the 3rd Dr Wily stage where you can get permanently stuck if you have run out of Rush Coil and Rush Jet.
Of course, it is pretty unlikely that this will actually happen, but it shouldn't _be able_ to happen, so that was some of the most important changes, IMO.
So I'm not the only one that beats Needle Man with the Shadow Blade...
I beat him with the Buster, yes, I'm a psychopath
Nope lol

They could improve more things like spark shock
Break man was proto-man the whole time
Why is Saturn glowing? Also, the clouds in Hard Man's stage look odd. This is still an awesome mod!
I believe those were the intended originally in the game; I remember seeing somewhere that the files for that were in the game, just never used.
This is so well made.
Thanks for sharing the playthrough.
This looks amazing!
An interesting revamp. This was one of my favorite Mega Man games as a kid, despite its having been rushed. But why fight Shadow Man buster only? If you're wanting to show up the improvements of this rom hack, it seems like showing off Top Spin would be essential (especially in that fight). Also, it's a shame they didn't fix the glitchiness of the rising platforms in Snake Man's stage.
Who else got here to see the large planet in Gemini Stage? 😊
this hack is beautiful.
I came here just to watch what Dr. Wily's intro SHOULD HAVE been in Mega Man 3
30:07 Airman Ga Taosenai
This looks better then the original
IT IS
İ just played this hack nearly reached to final stages but couldn't finished because of many busy things that was great for me. 👍
Great work done on this hack, especially with the Wily stages, as they now actually feel like challenging stages. Any word on whether Revamped versions of 1, 4, 5 & 6 are in the works? If so, can't wait to see what they'll be like.
All these improvements made to the game and they still couldn't be bothered to add invincibility frames to the Wily stage bosses so the fights (especially against your clones) could last more than a quarter of a second (if that!) :-)
But seriously this is impressive and I can't wait to play it myself
Megaman 3 Improvement
But better
I can understand why Willy was never successful killing mega man I mean look at the level layouts there designed to help him win
Not bad, thoughts and questions I’m sure no one will ever reply to. I’m wondering why wily and protomans theme never got used fully. Oh and the run was a great tas run
It's a very impressive Hack, although I do think the person behind the redesign of some of the game' stages went a bit too overkill. Seriously, was it necessary to add so many spikes in the Wily stages? What is this? Mega Man X6?
"...and THEN I RIDE OFF ON MAH ROBOT DAWG"
I can't find changed decorations in the stages of Shadow Man Magnetman and Needle man
3:12 jesus christ the sound 😂😂
Awesome version
4:19 ah yes the part when it said:
Beautiful words
No amount of remastering will remove Wily’s weakness to Snakes and Spinning.
you play very well, you would know how to add co-op mode in nes bomberman 2, it would be incredible maybe even to add different enemies removing snes
Amy didn't design the hack, she just played it.
who ever made this say to them this is a master piece
Megaman 3: god’s will
Definitely looks better -- visual-wise -- as far as additional background art is concerned.
This rom hack is perfect
Really really good rewamp❤❤❤
I'm use to playing with the normal one but this good
you made it look EZ, nice!.
That's how Mega Man 3 would've looked like if the developers had more time, lol
Woh I have this game in my gameboy
Different game, actually. Still, it's not bad at all.
@@DeskoDev The Japanese version for the Game Boy is called "Rockman _World_ 3", in order to more clearly distinguish it from "Rockman 3" for the Famicom.
I guess that this is meant to sound a bit like "rock my world", which is actually pretty clever.
@@Peter_1986 They retroactively called the games the Mega Man World games in the anniversary trailer for RM11 as well.
NES could run this mod?
I love all the added elements but the Homing hard knuckle makes it really too easy
I love this!!
It looks great, but the weapons (especially the arm cannon) are completely busted.
also i saw they added friction to topmans heelies
Doc Heatman and Doc Woodman were in wrong order but otherwise this was very nice :)
Doc Crashman and Doc Airman were in wrong order aswell.
Did they slow down the animation of the Spark Man stage?
Was this a TAS?
Would be even better with arranged music mabye someone could make an HD pack that only changes the music to remixed music.
29:39 Looks like they missed one timing glitch.
Barely getting any time to look at the robot select screen 😭
Where can I download it's Link.
If saturn is able to see from gemini man stage so whats is this moon 🤔
You didn't rebalance the weapons either. Oh well, we can't have it all...
You did overkill
3:13
Lmao
On the bad megamen how in the hell did you do that
...wait, is Mega Man casually planet-hopping? Was that what the story was all this time??
EDIT: Also, I'm not too keen on what things were changed since it's not a game I play much. I was kinda sad at how the hornets in Hardman's stage just pop into existence still.
Some iterations (including the instruction booklet) say that these energy elements and mining operations were on different planets entirely.
Archie Comics says it was 4 off planet, and 4 on Earth.
If "it's not a game I play much, " why are you so concerned about the changes?
If you don't like the game, no amount of hacks will change that.
You really don't like Top Spin, do you?
Would be nice if it behaves like it does in Mega Man Maker.
The Top Spin can actually kill lots of enemies in one hit, and it works perfectly fine as a normal weapon in that way, without hurting Mega Man or anything.
There are several videos here on UA-cam that demonstrate how it can be used, like for example a bunch of "Top Spin doesn't suck" videos.
MM3 was stated to be set out in space but there was ZERO evidence of this in the game. Thought it was set on Earth as it was sort of Canon.
Edit: ZERO evidence of this in the original NES game.
TAS?
IIRC, yes, but it doesn't just zip through the whole game, so it's more of a "proper" longplay than a speedrun.
Longplay? This looks like a tas!
I am ULTRA SANS
Improvements to rushed games are always welcomed. However, I would've eliminated the "Doc" stages completely. They were nothing more than padding to make the game seem longer than it was. Recoloring their stages isn't enough; they should've been removed.
Turbo fire is cheating 😠
They didn't even bother with fixing boss AI's. Just why?
Hello! I am one of the people who worked on this project and I would be happy to clarify the changes to boss AI. Changing the Boss AI in drastic ways is difficult when trying to retain the original pattern and spirit of the original. We did fix major issues such as large hitboxes, but also mini tweaks here and there.
Shadow Man- There is a greater pause before he throws his giant shurikens as well as he always slides the longer, even up to the other side of the boss room, guaranteeing you will be able to jump over him.
Spark Man- His tiny sparks that fly in 8 directions now briefly stun you but do no damage, but in turn allows him to hit you with his large spark which still does do damage.
Needle Man- He is a perfect boi
Top Man: Nothing much we could really do given the limitations of the hardware
Gemini Man: The rare softlocking bug is removed
Snake, Hard, Magnet Man: Nothing has been changed apart from hitboxes
So it's not that we didn't bother, man. It's that we didn't have the technical knowledge to make more outrageous boss modifications.
@@doodledangernoodle2517 I can see that, my dumbass forgot this was a Romhack. The small changes you made are nice. I'll try fighting them later, I never really noticed the differences on Shadow Man and Spark Man.
@@doodledangernoodle2517 You could take the Wily Wars route with Top Man and make him throw tops in a spread.
I've always hated mm3, im not a huge fan of the music (except for top man, snake man and wily stages) and the level design, fortunately this rom hack just makes the game way better and more polished, i really like it
