Not sure if someone else has pointed this out, but fruit really was expensive back then. It wasn't as easy to come by, and if you had "the good stuff" (like oranges) it cost a lot. That's why the British went with limes: they weren't as sour as lemons, but they weren't as expensive as oranges. (This is also why the British became known as "limers")
In Max Gentlemen: Sexy Business - set in Victorian London - you need to acquire some bizarre, esoteric items for an occult ritual...plus a banana. I opted to search for the banana first, figuring it would be the easy one, only for the NPC to respond "yeah, I was most worried about that one, too - I'm sure bananas will be easy to find in the future, but where are we going to get one in Victorian London?!" (We posed as customs inspectors and stole a shipment meant for Queen Victoria.)
I know I'm about 2 years late to this party, but I thought the reason us brits were known as limeys was because every nation that had lemons hated us and wouldn't sell us them, but that could just be urban legend, I can't find a good source for it. Hope the last two years has been good to you, friend :)
@@jcxtra Huh! That would be an interesting fact if it was true. I just saw this mini-documentary on Norwegian TV about what people ate at seas saying it was on account of limes being cheap enough + not so sour it wouldn't be possible to eat, but I haven't fact checked it myself. Thank you! They have (all things considered with the state of the world). Hope the last two years have been good to you too, friend 😊
I think this is the most genuine frustration I've ever seen in on e of your videos, I'm almost impressed given how many early access titles you play LMAO
Not sure if you read comments on videos this far back, but this is like a poorly made version of Pirates! Gold. on the genesis. I still play that game to this day. Super fun.
100, defend defend defend, 100, defend defend defend, 100.... It appears winning an attack does 5 dmg, no matter the numbers, and defending against an attack does 1 dmg. Even a theoretical opponent who can infinitely attack at 99 power every turn, will get beat by (100+def+def+def), because they take 5 dmg and you take 3 for each of these cylces. Worst case scenario is an opponent who defends on your 100 atk, then attacks 33 each defense, you take 3 dmg and deal only 1. I guess my method works only 75% of the time, given random choices. So if you plan around their defense, so that your 100 atk does not get defended, it should increase above 75% win rate
I'm sure this has been suggested before, but perhaps the price was for a shipload of fruit? Also, 42 is the meaning of life and everything or whatever, right? So that's a pretty good score. Your crew's morale has diminished. ⏳
Omg this video had me dying laughing during/after the fruit cost $5 is expensive today mini rant, idk why but when you curse in your videos you do it at the best possible times 🤣
3:13 Actually, you’re 100% right. I just looked it up: A Spanish Dollar (Pieces of Eight aka An Eight-Real Coin) would be worth $100 USD today. That’s $420.00 you just nabbed, probably more than enough for the boys to get drunk on shore. 😆
Its been a long day but 9:06 made my day -- $11 Dollars to repair my ship but that fuck face over there wants $5 for fruit -- that almost made me spit water all over my computer
I wonder if he ever realized that you can use the amount the enemy attacked you with to calculate their remaining power and win all the fights easily....
@@joedoe1096 you either choose atk or defend. was watching this vid while playing wow classic, so was like, half paying attention.... surprised me when he was looking for his "sex tent"... for a split sec, then i realized he said sextant xP
Thanks for playing my game, I loved the video! It was super funny
Thanks for making it! I really liked your game and hope people check it out.
crew moral is still low man 😂
sweet, the dev. Nice game man!
@@LetsGameItOut your crew dies, your ship is wrecked, you get a heart attack and you realise lifes meaning is 42---gg
i played many free flash games way better that this
I love how he went backwards in the video, he started at the island with the treasure then went around and found the parts of the map
@@christianherbst674 It all makes sense now.
The Alchemist (2019 Colorized)
@@reshail8133 i understood that reference! noice
I wa so hoping after digging up the treasure it would be like "You found the treasure! Gained: $4"
Or a pile of fruit
@@doxielain2231 Prolly worth $500 lol

This channel is literally my favorite rn. Can't believe this guy was here all this time
literally
Same here! He plays games in such a stupid and chaotic way and has a great sense of humor and speech
‘I’m. Gonna. Walk. With. So. Much. Purpose!’ Cracks me up EVERY TIME 😂😂

I love Josh mumbling to himself and speedreading through text, such a good laugh.

Ah good old 42 the answer to everything. On another note great video.
Imagine betting 2 dollars on a fight TO THE DEATH
You have no idea how much morale my crew doesn't have.
Perfection.
I like how the fist island he ever went to was the treasure island of the first attempt.
Josh's angst in this game gives me life...
I waited 15 mins for him to break the game, but he just played a straight up hard game.
I love your 'i don't give a fuck' attitude. It's refreshing.
Assassin's Creed Black Flag was my favorite of the AC games. I loved the ship fights so much.
Not sure if you read comments on videos this far back, but this is like a poorly made version of Pirates! Gold. on the genesis. I still play that game to this day. Super fun.
I am guessing it's enough fruit for the whole crew?
If I was selling the only thing that prevents Scurvy damn straight I'd charge $5. Price-gouging a bunch of desperate pirates is no skin off my nose...
"You have no idea how much morale my crew doesn't have"
"Do you see how much health he doesn't have? "

I’m sure there’s a mathematical formula for that fighting system that would give you the greatest chance of winning every time

But ofc! “Sea Birds of a Certain Age”-a fan favorite 😂😂😂
This game is actually hilarious and I love it. I wanna sail the seven seas in search of $42 bucks.
"I should have played more Assassin's Creed."
I'm dead.
Cool video man!!! When will meeple part 6 come ??? Love your work
Josh: breathes
Morale: 📉📉📉📉📉📉
I need to make a game in rpg maker called Birds of a Certain Age now

Your crew's morale has diminished. ⏳
14:06 I will come back to this every so often to remember those words.
This gives me nostalgia for the pirates of the caribbean game for the gameboy. It's clearly inspired by it.
Looks like a fun little game, but I would have had a tenth of the patience you had with it. Bravo.
"OK, so I took a piece of the treasure map.. HOW DO I GET FRUIT NOW?"
"And now your ship is sunk, you've had a heart attack, and you crew has left you"
I'm so proud of Miles Edgeworth for finding the treasure!
I miss old josh. Newer videos are not the same
Really like your videos! Thanks for all the help throughout this quarantine times!
Happy birthday Josh!
What a neat little game
This was Josh's finest hour.
Dude your vids and channel are so underrated but it looks like your starting to grow pretty fast congrats keep it up dude
Another great video, but now I can't stop thinking how unbelievably hilarious it would be to watch you play Assassin's Creed ...
I need this channel on an IV drip. God i love how he plays games
Interesting game. Reminded me of old.. OLD school dos based games.
"I should have played more AC4" 😂

Their cannons have tracking! Yours fire straight.

I love how you always fight peter pan’s shadow.
Sea birds of a certain age, they have a few glasses of wine a night and are frustrated at their lives.
Did you know your crew morale can diminish?

throwback to Poptropica’s pirate island, gotta grind for them doubloons 🏝

I knew Josh's ancestor was the cause of the end of the golden age of piracy.
Those looked like fun mechanics.
