This game encapsulates the Padres entire season. Great first half, a lot of flash, while the other team just quietly and competently wins. Sigh.

This Giants team, keeps on getting wins, like how they won this game, this giants team is so cool clutch, and memorable, even if they don't win the World Series, this giants team will be a memorable mlb team, as long as baseball exists.

@@rufust.firefly4890, yeah the Giants were memorable in 93 despite winning 103 games they still didn't make the playoffs, only missing the playoffs by 1 game, which was before the Wild Card Existed which is one reason why the wild card exists, because a team as good as the 1993 giants should not miss the playoffs, and the 2002 giants are also memorable to us Giants fan because the Giants almost won the World Series even though they didn't win they almost did, if Dusty Baker didn't pullout starting pitcher Rusty Ortiz who pitched 6 shutout innings in game 6, the Giants would of won the 2002 world Series.

Lot of people counted this GIants team out early in the season, it is baffling to see group of under-appreciated guys and thought-to-be washed up veterans compete at the highest level, battling for the division superiority with star-studded LAD team.
Also crazy to see Fraudres crumbling into ashes while the Redbirds are cementing their spot in the wildcard race like pheonix.

What keeps the Dodgers so close is how few squeakers they play in.

@@capresenooj4359 It's not that people know his splitter is coming (that was a problem in his first appearance against the Dodgers), but he's having a hard time with its location now. When you throw it and it's way out of the zone, it's easy to lay off that. When it was good, it looked like a pitch that would be a strike, then it drops out at the end. Now, that splitter ends up leaking into the zone even at the end, and batters are teeing up. It's forced him to make some of his other pitches better, and he's found success with that, but the splitter is still key to him pitching well.

I’m so tired of play-by-play guys saying that a player brought the ball “back into the yard” when the ball is clearly caught it 5 feet in front of the fence.

I agree. I'm not a Padres fans but live in San Diego and watch a lot of their games. You expect all announcers to be homers to a certain degree but their homerism (good word) is ridiculous. I'm sure Padres fans like them but to the neutral fan they're annoying AF!!!

I Love All of Major League Baseball. Period. I have however for decades lived less than an hour away from the Bay Area...so yes, of course I root a bit more for The Giants in the senior circuit and The Athletics in the American League. With that being said, it does sadden me a bit to see what's happened to The Padres. I mean, contenders for most of the way...and then suddenly there is a strong possibility they may end up the season a .500 ballclub?! Ugh. Disheartening for any team. 😞

Go Giants!! Beat the Padres. Something must be hindering Gausman's pitching performances. Gausman's is serving up easy gopher balls to good hitters. A 1.77 ERA before the All Star Break; and after the All Star Break 4.97 ERA, something is definitely wrong with Gausman's. Giants need Gausman to find his pitching game, again. In any event, Go G-MEN!!!
Gausman's stock is going way down, was looking like he would get a big contract, now he is more of the journeyman Gausman before he went to the Giants.
He hasn’t recovered since his wife’s medical scare.
Gausman's splitter is a pitch he's still trying to find once again. That's what made his first half numbers so good, the devastating splitter. Now, sometimes it's fantastic (the first strikeout in these highlights), but many others the location is way off and people are hitting it now. It's a low-contact, swing-and-miss pitch when it's working, but the Padres had a .444 average on that pitch last night. He mentioned in the post-game that the coaches still tell him that it's the key to his success (that one pitch is why he was brought to the Giants) and they still want him to throw it until he can 'find' it again. So every game is a "he's working on some stuff" game.
