My mother's grandfather came over from County Mayo in 1850. He ended up in Chicago and had my grandfather and three great aunts once in America.

They're surrounded by water. Nobody thought about fishing 🎣

Thanks for your comment! You’re right that Ireland is surrounded by water, but during the famine, most people were too poor to afford boats or fishing gear. Plus, a lot of the fish caught was exported to other countries, so even that wasn’t an option for many. It’s such a heartbreaking part of the story.

You need salt to harvest and keep the fish to eat later. They couldn't even afford to buy salt.

Just one thing: there is WATER all around Ireland (read: fish and the rest of the edible marine fauna)...... and they were starving (...)
    Hard to fathom...

Thank you for your comment. During the famine, many Irish people lacked boats, fishing gear, or the strength to fish after months of starvation. Moreover, British policies often restricted access to coastal resources, and much of the fish caught was exported rather than consumed locally.

Wondering if others said the same to your people about you know what if you would agree too then. It was a genocide just like yous are doing now.
