  • IFR arrival to Nuremberg. Cleared a waypoint on the RNAV transition, then vectors for the ILS. Cloud layer from 070 to 100.

Beautiful smooth landing. I replayed the touchdown about 3 times. ^^
Oh, how nice it would be to upgrade to a DA42... 😍

    Great vid!
You flew over my house (disappears under your nose at 12:36) :-)
I might have even seen you (there's only one other DA42 flying in EDDN that I know of)

Very good video, but it would be great to see some screenshots of your Garmin 1000 glass cockpit and/or your ipad. Catching Localizer is always nice to watch, for instance!

Dear Sir, you fly quiet often to Nürnberg. Is ist for job or for fun?
Besides that, what was the reason, I guess you bought it new, to buy the DA 42? You fly a lot of hours per year all over the international places. All in the DA 42. Is it the range and lower fuel consumption comparing to almost equal planes? Is there no alternative choice to the DA 42? I think your opinion might be very interesting. Thanx so far.

Nuremberg is a perfect halfway spot for trips from Scandinavia to south-eastern Europe. Very friendly to GA and if you are just staying overnight, the Mövenpick hotel is the best on-airport hotel I've stayed at. No taxi necessary; maximum sleep time.
The DA42-VI cruises at 175 KTAS at altitude >=F150 with a total fuel flow of 13 gal/50 liters. There is no other piston twin that will do that. Range with full fuel and extended-range tanks is 5hrs incl IFR reserve. With just the main tanks, 3 hrs.
I guess the Baron G58 would be the alternative, but nowhere near the fuel efficiency of the DA42. According to their published performance figures, the G58 gets goes half the distance on the same fuel (using 100LL, which is more expensive than the JetA the DA42 uses). The G58 is a little bit faster and has that retro feel. No FADEC; still with the old-style throttle quadrant with manual mix and prop. Two 300hp continentals. This is the style of twin that gave rise to the phrase, "The second engine will take you to the scene of the accident."
