Leonard Cohen wrote 84 verses of this wonderful song. Each verse was a separate expression of the word, Hallelujah. If he had lived it is likely that he would have added more verses. John Cale took just five verses to perform and record. Two more verses were added and it is the seven verses that have been "accepted" as being the song the public hears. Apparently John Cale was astonished when Cohen gave him fifteen pages of verses from which to choose. I would love to hear more versions made up of some other verses.
I’m an atheist and this is just beautiful. She’s talented, sings with such emotion and it pleases many. I think it’s wonderful and I’ll stand up for anyone who wants to praise their Jesus.
@chrishall4871 : I too am an atheist. But this song does sound good and the voice of the singer, she is remarkable. You don't need to believe in a god in order to appreciate music when it is done so well. Believe in what ever you want. Just please don't ask all of us to follow your beliefs as there were not other options. We'd all get along better that way.
I have just found this beautiful song.. Somerset where we live is, in mythology reputedly Avalon. This seems to be a lovely song to play as i depart this world.
Comparto el pensamiento. 🇨🇱Gracias a don Leonard Cohen y a Srta. Shona Mc Garty. Excepcional interpretación 👏👏👏. Y que decir de la Orquesta y coro. Fantástico. Que regalo.
Leonard gave so many beautiful musical gifts to the world. It is wonderful that great musicians can take them to such a level of inspiration and exaltation.
I absolutely love this particular rendition of the Hallelujah, it fills me with great peace and I can actually feel the presence of the Holy Spirit. Praise you Jesus on this great feast day of Christ the King. With Love to all from India.
Hallelujah was written by Leonard Cohen, a great Canadian from Montreal. It was one of the greatest gifts he could give the world as it is performed all over the world. Cohen now rests in peace back in his beloved Montreal.
In Flanders Fields, the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row, that mark our place; and in the sky the larks, still bravely singing, fly scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the dead. Short days ago We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, loved and were loved, and now we lie, In Flanders fields Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands we throw The torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die We shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields. - John McCrea. Thank you for this amazing choral and solo arrangement. The Soprano did good. Bravo! I felt the Hallelujah.
Yes as I say it’s one of my favourite songs and I’m aware that there’s at least 50 Hallelujah covers out there, from Bon Jovi to Jeff Buckley and beyond but I shared it because I really thought she honoured the song and the servicemen so well!
Was für eine Stimme, gigantisch traumhaft, ich liebe dieses Lied. Berührend vorgetragen, passt hervorragend zu diesem Anlass. Vielen lieben Dank dafür.
Denis if you haven't heard KDLang sing this song, you should..KD set the bar for this. She sang it to Leonard the night he was inducted into the Cdn. Hall of Fame..its brilliant.
I read in an interview that BonnJovi’s cover was Leonard’s favorite. It’s true though that there is no such thing as a bad version of this beautiful song.
A Jewish song sung in Christian churches all over the world, what is to offend? Beautiful music is universal. It knows no boundaries. A lovely voice young lady.
Yes I feel if there is anyone that is on earth ought to get respect that is good parents and a good teacher and undoubtedly a good soldier who sacrifice and dies without his own fault. I do respect every nation's soldiers in fact. I am neutral. I feel we are under the shade of one umbrella ☂️ that is a good God.
WOW !! This uplifting rendition of Hallelujah for Eastertime is TRULY THE most spiritual and awe inspiring!!! One can NOT be moved to tears when you listen to the actual lyrics ……. These 2 young women will hopefully continue on a successful path sharing their heavenly talent for no other reason than to unite ALL citizens of this world !!…. Also Love the Christmas rendition !!
Leonard Cohen was a devout Jew and had an Orthodox Jewish burial in Montreal, Canada. I am so pleased this song, as well as many others ,has touched so many people.
Without trying to offend any religious, this poem in all its verses , makes me cry and I feel like there is an angel by my side..... I still say the prayers I learned as a young boy. This one brings me to my knees asking for forgiveness. I don't think, I don't hope I am alone.
Stellar performance. Very well produced. But, I didn’t tear up. I’ve watched Pentatonix’ studio version (filmed in the desert,) easily well over 100 times and have teared up every single time.
I knew Shona could sing, from her role in Eastenders in which she did a bit of singing but NOTHING like that. She has a quite sensational delivery and power and she absolutely nailed this wonderful version of Cohen's great iconic song. Shona, if you're reaing this, all I can say is 'Well done girl, I'm so proud of you, you did the occasion proud'. ❤
Goose bumps here!
May God be please with ye lass!
RIP Leonard Cohen.
Wow, wow, wow!
God and love and beauty belongs to all people. Not religion.
What does that mean?
Wow Beautiful
RIP Leonard Cohen!! 🇨🇦 🍁 🇨🇦 A great Canadian who gave us a wonderful piece.
And likely the best rendition is done by another Canadian, KD Lang.
@@ellellbeeYes!!
The lady took charge of this song. Tremendously well done!!
Shivers! ❤
THANK YOU, LEONARD.
IT STARTED WITH HALLELUJAH.
IT ENDS WITH HALLELUJAH.
I never tire of this song no matter what version is being sung ❤
Мне тоже, спасибо.
Me too.
I have never tired of Leonard Cohen's songs.
Same here and every time, it makes me cry with its beauty and simplicity.

Do you know, where these missing verses are to be found? I searched for them but couldn’t even get a hint.
LOVE YOU AMEN ❤
I hate when videos like this cut off before we get to hear the full audience reaction
BEAUTIFUL SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL
MAGNIFIQUE
What a beautiful, young woman with an equally beautiful voice. 💙
Amén from Cuba.
I’m an atheist and this is just beautiful. She’s talented, sings with such emotion and it pleases many. I think it’s wonderful and I’ll stand up for anyone who wants to praise their Jesus.
That’s because nits not about discovering god. It’s about rejecting god.
This is not about Jesus but the G-d of the Bible. Leonard Cohen was an orthodox Jew
You should try spending time with Jesus, also .

Fabulous 😢
I love the lyrics more than singers who sing the song. Anyone who sings this Leonard Cohen's piece overdoes it emotionally. He does it best.
His voice was in terrible shape when he recorded it. But it was his life, who else can sing it?
Super ! Wauw !
Leonard would be smiling n saying thank you for doing my song justice.
Best I've heard beyond Leonard ⚘

Absolutely a beautiful and soul touching!
They played this song at my mom’s funeral and it breaks my heart every time I hear it especially by Vera Lynn.
That song always brings me to tears.
Oh wow! A very talented young lady standing there with a beautiful voice. I've never heard of her before. Fantastic 👏

In America, this is a very beautiful song. Thank you!
Fantastic performance, second only to K.D.Langs version at the Logies in May 2010, a performance which IMHO can never be bettered.
Hear! Hear! K D Langs performance is on another planet.
Jeff Buckley had the definitive version for many people. Its fantastic

Yep this is very lovely indeed but Jeff Buckley's is even more powerful emotively as is the version by Lucy Thomas
perfect, enough said.
Blimey that’s the girl from Eastenders! What an amazing voice!
Yep, Shona can sure belt out a tune!
No way! Bloody ell, what's she doing working in that crud.
Wow, just wow.
Wow Shona ❤❤❤
I am sure Lenard Cohen will be looking down and thinking Shona you really made me very proud that was the strongest performance of my song.

Super this song.

Now I was not expecting that! Simply brilliant.
Lucy Thomas too!
When life becomes testing I listen to this. It reminds me of how much God loves me and carries me through.

Jesus was a Jew. Christians are brothers of the Jewish people.
You should hear it in Arabic a French Syrian Menel does it beautifully
A song sung by a jew does not make it theirs.
@@Saharadesertdragonnow I have to google it. It’s not even a religious song Mr. Cohen wrote.
Wow, the girl can really sing. Absolutely stunning. Well done Shona.
Querrá decir la Ser va

Wow wow wow ❤
Sometimes in life, our hallelujah is a bit weak or broken. But even so, it's still hallelujah. Beautifully done, Shona.
