    Looking forward to how you like it

      Thank you, we're still learning how to use it properly. Even with all the videos on how to use it that were done by those who sell them, it still takes some practice and finesse to figure out the best setup and speed to pass the wood over the drum sander. we went ahead and bought the fences as we hope to use it for edge jointing to avoid having to get a jointer at this time. Stay tuned ;)

    Can you do sement Ring

    • @DustyWorkbench
      @DustyWorkbench  Рік тому +1

      I'm not really sure. If you are talking about wedding/finger rings then this would be overkill and would be difficult to do small stock unless you make a jig that makes the opening smaller. The maker of the Flatmaster has a great video on how to make a jig for small pieces --> ua-cam.com/video/j_0abJJv9d0/v-deo.html Sorry if I didn't understand your question correctly.

    Hello sir. I just purchased this “drum sander” thx to you. They really should sponsor you. Looking through your vids… did you do a build vid for the workbench you dropped this machine into? Ty.

    • @DustyWorkbench
      @DustyWorkbench  2 роки тому

      Wow, thanks! No haven't made a video about the workbench as it was built quickly and mostly with lumber remnants we had in the shop . I will keep this in mind as I would like a nicer, more practical bench for it in the future.

    Can u raze and lower the drum on it

    • @DustyWorkbench
      @DustyWorkbench  2 роки тому

      Yes, it is adjustable. It should be set so that the sandpaper is just below the surface when it is off. Once it is turned on the sand paper will be slightly above from the centrifugal force. When you pass the wood across the sand paper the wood doesn't squeeze the paper against the cylinder/drum.

    Is there a way to throw a sanding mop on this unit at the same time? Similar to the sand flee drum sander?

    • @DustyWorkbench
      @DustyWorkbench  3 роки тому

      Yes, you can. The drum shaft extends far enough to attach a motor arbor adapter or a keyless chuck. Both can be found on their Stockroomsupply.com website but I'm sure you can find similar adapters elsewhere. Amazon example: amzn.to/3mpuMU6 Arbor adapter: amzn.to/3H7ncp7

    why did belt come off? what does it take to change the belt? Looks like disassembly of the top?

    • @DustyWorkbench
      @DustyWorkbench  3 роки тому

      The end of the paper got caught then the rest followed. Now I put tape on both ends. Changing the paper can take less than a minute once you become a pro. Still takes me 2-3 minutes. Here is a link to show you how ua-cam.com/video/JZUD9qbjono/v-deo.html

    Watching this video a year later haha. I've been looking into a drum sander for my end grain cutting boards. Have you used this on an end grain board? Curious how well it does compared to a drum sander for that specific purpose.

    • @DustyWorkbench
      @DustyWorkbench  2 роки тому

      Not yet! We have used it on edge grain boards and it works amazingly! I haven't made a video on that yet but you can check out the following video from the suppliers where he sands down an old end grain cutting board. ua-cam.com/video/qMvWqOxMxg0/v-deo.html

      Oh, Wow! Yes you are correct. I guess it wasn't a popular size.

    So was there any damage to the Velcro or roller when the sand paper came off? Any idea what happened?

    • @DustyWorkbench
      @DustyWorkbench  3 роки тому +4

      No there was no damage. It just took us by surprise. I'm not 100% sure but I think it was a combination of things. One being the tip of the sandpaper got caught and the cylinder being too high. I now put a strip of tape over the ends to avoid that happening and ensure that I follow the recommendations for the cylinder height.
      I plan to make a follow up video to review this Flatmaster Sander in the near future. Stay tuned :)
      Cheers
      Paul

      @@DustyWorkbench so far do you recommend it? I’m about to order one since they have a long lead time.

    • @DustyWorkbench
      @DustyWorkbench  3 роки тому +1

      @@adrianc6140 It depends on what you plan to do with it. I love it for doing the first sanding at 80 grit. It's fast, easy, no dust flying around and quiet compared to the orbital sander and shop vac setup we have. Works great for flattening smaller pieces that are not too bad of shape otherwise you will need to pass the piece over several times. I guess that would be the same as with any type of equipment unless you can pass it through the planer. I haven't tested it to its full potential yet but using it for the basic sanding has already proved itself valuable. The other day my wife and I were sanding pieces side by side using this Flatmaster so we were able to sand pieces down in half the time.

    How are you liking your Flatmaster so far?

    • @DustyWorkbench
      @DustyWorkbench  3 роки тому

      It works really well for some applications. Trying to sand anything longer than 3 to 4 feet long is difficult. I did buy the fence with the hold down wheels but haven't gotten around to installing them yet as I'll have to make a modifications to where our Flatmaster is currently placed. Once I have the fence and wheels on it should make it easier to keep things square and flat when pushing longer pieces over table. When doing shorter pieces though, under 3 feet, it works really well and fast. Sometimes we're two of us passing pieces of wood over it because we went with the 30" wide, which essentially doubles our sanding speed. It really makes the wood flat, similar to a jointer but less amount for each pass. The nice thing is we can flatten pieces that are 30" or even 60" wide if we do half at a time. Getting a drum sander to do the same size would have cost 10x as much. So far we use it with an 80 grit just to get the initial sanding down, then move to the orbital sander for the higher grits.
