Do what I did, get a mom friend.
I met my mom friend when I was 15 and she was 25, I'm 20 now and I swear to god that woman saved my life. I've known mom almost longer than I knew my actual mother, who died when I was five. If it weren't for her I wouldn't be here.

I have seen a lot of people saying similar things about their moms in these comments. I hope people can see that their moms are worthy of understanding too, in the same way you are. Nobody's perfect. This song's message applies to everyone, not just ourselves, and when you see that, you start to see the good and potential in everyone. We all hurt each other sometimes, but it's good for us all to seek to fix that and do better in the future.

@@notreknipa If their mom is abusive (they aren't necessarily but there's a chance), then they have no obligation to forgive their abuser. That advice doesn't apply to everyone. And if they're saying things like this in comments sections, they're probably using humor as a coping mechanism for a crappy childhood.
I love your optimism but this isn't the place for it.

My mom is the complete opposite. She knows what I'm going through because she is mentally ill as well, but she is constantly gaslighting me and pointing out my flaws and manipulating my sisters and my dad into seeing me as an enemy to the family. I'm 22 and I still live with them but I recently got forced out by a lie my 18 year old sister told so I'm staying with my grandma which is an hours drive from work. I can't make it on my own and I'm kinda scared. I love my family so much and I would die for them but I'm always treated like shit by them. I'm so confused.

My friend, unsure of what to do, asked me if he could put on a song. I was nonchalant at it cause what did it matter, I was going to “die” and he put this song. I didn’t pay attention to the first verses but then the chorus made my stop on my tracks and my eyes filled with tears and I slummed on the ground thinking that was my mother comforting me. It became my mantra *it’s alright, it’s okay, it’s alright, it’s okay you’re not a demon, there’s a reason you behaved in that way*
It helped me get over my panic attack and since then, every time I have one, I put this own and it calms me

The thing that hit me with this was the fact I wrote a song calling myself a 'monster in a pretty doll's skin' and this song almost seems like the version of my acceptance when it said 'your not a monster your a human and you've made a few mistakes' and I think it inspires me to write a part two to my song saying just that. :)) thank you, as this was my first inspiration in a long time.

When I was an age too old for this, I was asked by my friend to not walk her home once after school, we had gotten in a fight about something, I can't remember. Anyways, I wanted to make sure she was safe, so I followed her a ways back and I kept by some bushes along the edge of a park. I was watching her on the home stretch, she was a turn away from home and a little ways down an unpopulated road (protected area legally, there are a handful of low population animals in the forest) when a friend of ours, he was a little challenged so we disregarded his creepy behavior and were kind to him, was walking behind her. It was strange since I've also walked him home before, and he lived near me, on the other side of town, not near school. He pulled out a small pocket knife while my friend was reaching in her back pack for a dip'ems she was going to give to him, and he stabbed her in the shoulder I had already been walking towards them by this point and I had began running, when she fell he began pulling her pants down, and when I had reached her, her underwear was off and around her thighs. He was much thinner than me, and much less muscular, so it was easy to push him to the ground, and I did, my friend, still bleeding, began calling 911, both to get him arrested and get medical help, since it was bleeding badly. When he fell there next to her, I immediately began to climb on top of him, and I hit him so much. I couldn't even recognize him anymore, then I moved onto his chest and began pulling at the knife in his hand, I threw it into the bushes and I broke both of his arms, I was in a cold, mindless rage, trapped in my mind, fully conscious of what I was doing, but unable to stop myself. I dragged him over to the curb and put this arm against it so it was resting on it with his elbow in the air, and I stomped on it, he was unconscious at this point, and I had moved to do the same to his other arm, one of them began bleeding. Then I started stomping on him as hard as I could until the police and ambulance arrived, the ambulance arrived before the police and they had refused to try to pull me away from him, I was screaming at them to leave us alone, I was so horrified at what I was doing but it was like my muscles were moving on their own, I eventually calmed down when I heard sirens in the distance again and they were allowed to put him in a stretcher and wheel him and my friend off into the ambulance, the cops came, and they questioned my friend, who had been, from a distance, screaming and crying at me the whole time to stop, until the cops arrived, then they questioned me, I tried to leave out the part where I beat him like a fucking enraged chimp, but they already heard it all from her. They arrested me, and my parents and my friends were in contact to save me from being put in juvy, or, with the brutality of what I did, probably jail. They were talking to our friend's parents about the situation, and with my friend's approval, agreed to not press charges if they didn't. The state still had issue and they pressed crimes against us both for committing crimes on federal property, and I got 6 months in detention, and he, after healing enough to transport, was put in jail.
To this day, I have flashbacks and vivid nightmares, of my perspective, but not my body, where I'm watching in the first person as horrible, brutal, visceral things play out in front of me, where I'm beating people close to me, where it feels like the world is about to explode and I'm going to be the only one to die, where it's all bloody and boney and there's bruised flesh that I walk on for miles, and there's screaming, it's always haunting me now and I listen to this song to calm myself sometimes, I'm a mess just saying this, and I feel like a monster all the time, even though I know I did it to protect someone I really loved, I'm so ashamed and terrified of myself, I hadn't been able to hold my baby brothers without fear that maybe that part of me would come out again, it made me avoid everyone I loved, and who made me happy, and I was in hell.i can't even play violent video games, I wasn't the victim of a stabbing and attempted rape, so I didn't get therapy for it, and my parents could not afford that, now that I live with my siblings, I haven't accepted an invite to hold my infant nephew, I was too ashamed to come to his birth, and I couldn't stand being in my familys and friends presence and lost many friends, and made many family members worried, just staying in my room, listening to music and playing games, reading books watching TV, everything normal people do to forget things, like drugs and alcohol, I developed a weed addiction and I've done heroin and meth once, nothing changes the fact that everything, even a flinch from something I accidentally did, like maybe I was reaching over someone, and they flinch, I would feel like shit, ashamed, brought back, like some monster in human skin. I've even taken to scratching the skin off of my fingers and pulling my leg hair absentmindedly, when I don't think I'm stressed or thinking about it, I've not been able to work through all of this, so if it isn't coherent, I'm sorry... It's fucking hard to keep track when im thinking about this.
If you read this far, thank you for listening to my story, and if you have the same issues, or any, that make you feel like a monster, I'm here to tell you, you aren't. You're human, flesh and blood and brain, that brain isn't perfect and it can make you do things, when it's poked and prodded the right way, that will horrify you and remind you of your own fragile mortality.
You aren't a monster, you're not evil, you weren't gruesome, and that horror is good, it proves it.

These lyrics came straight for me and my jugular, it fucking hits so hard and first time I heard it this it made me break down

If someone is reading this, and they need a message of hope. I just want to say sometimes we can’t always see that things will get better, but if we ride out the storm and don’t give up, things will work out in the long run. If your in doubt keep your head up and keep pushing on, I believe in you.

Just had a binge episode and the guilt and shame following it is almost unbearable. Everytime it happens, I come to this song. Thank you Mother Mother❤️

This is actually really helpful for me.
I've dealt with bullies for YEARS, and the way I tend to react to them trying to hurt me is to lash out and hurt them back. but I don't want to hurt anybody. I just want to be left alone

First time I ever heard this song, now id been listening to Mother Mother for a while and I just never came across this one. It was late at night and I had just gotten through a really bad panic episode after I had tried to do some bad stuff to myself. I heard this song and I've never cried that hard before. This song really touched me like nothing has before.

I've never commented on a song before. But I had to. This song is insanely comforting and sweet. I'm going through on of the roughest times of my life and I was at the point I wasn't feeling anything, just moving through life knowing I'm struggling but not being able to identify any specific emotion I was feeling. But for some reason, as dumb as it sounds, this song made me feel. I'm crying now in my car waiting for my work shift eating DQ ice cream, but at least I feel something. This song is SO comforting. I appreciate the band (which I am now a fan of despite not hearing them until now) and the one who posted this. Thank you!

People may think that they are emotionless because of the pain they had been through. But we are all humans after all, having feelings is what makes us humans, people just keep all there feelings stuffed inside them, which soon or later grows in to depression, its good to let all those feelings go for you to feel relief, and its ok. Theres no roses without thorns. If your life its not good now it doesnt mean that it cant get better.

4 years ago I did something horrible, this song really helps me when I think about the path of broken hearts I've left behind. It hurts and I still don't think I can forgive myself yet but, I'm happy that I have something to make me feel a bit better when I'm feeling down.

Everybody deserves forgiveness, remember, I don’t know what you did, I don’t care. I see you’re struggling with it, I forgive you

Just remember, the amount of remorse it seems it took you to type all that, I'm sure you've grown so much as a person to recognize your wrong doings. I hope by now you're on the path to forgiveness for yourself.

I wish other people especially my mother understood.. 💔
    “I’m lonley, lost in pain”
“I am touching, I am grabbing everything I can’t be havin’”
“I am broken down in shame”
“You’re not a demon, there’s a reason you behaved in that way”
These words really spoke to me especially the last one which made me emotional..

I remember listening to this song before I really understood it. It’s weird what can happen to you in a year. Ive been on meds for a while now for depression and ptsd symptoms. I was abuse as a kid and early teens and was in the hospital often. I’m finally doing better and getting the help I need. Learning heather coping strategies instead of alcohol (I’m 15 I can’t even have it where I live or buy it) and just getting better in general
