Mostar (موستار or Мостар 2024) is one of the largest and well known cities of Bosnia and Herzegovina (Босна и Херцеговина 2024) after Sarajevo. Mostar was named after the Old Bridge (Stari Most) over the Neretva River. The Bridge keepers were named Mostar. The old Bridge is famous and was bombed during the Yugoslav civil war. After the war Bosnia and Herzegovina gained their independence and the Stari Most Bridge was restored. The bridge was built in the 16th century by Suleiman the Magnificent and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Other highlights of the city are: the Mostar Clock Tower (Sahat Kula), the Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque, the Bazzar Kujundžiluk in Mala Tepa, the Stari Most Museum and the modern Lučki Bridge. Nearby is the medieval town of Počitelj.
