i absolutely HATE public love confessions in books. every time there’s a love confession with an audience i automatically cringe, put down the book and take a breather before i can continue 🤢
I hate how in some books, the author keeps mentioning how small the mc is :/ like we get it shes tiny and fragile but you really don’t have to mention it 5 times in one chapter to get that message across damn 🤠
something i SUPER HATE in books is when the development of the romantic relationship goes from zero to 100 and makes absolutely no sense *cue the spanish love deception* and yeah omg when I read text messages between teenagers in books T_T
i don't like it when authors try to "explain" the magic system of the their world in the first two chapters of the book. that much information throws me off and i immediately lose interest. i prefer it when they don't really explain anything but we get to understand it ourselves gradually chapter by chapter as we get introduced to new things :")
I have only ever read ONE author who wrote YA contemporary relationships realistically. Alice Oseman did such a great job in heartstopper & Radio Silence. I have never read conversation and banter that actually felt that real, like the way I talk with my friends.
For the siblings addressing each other as brother/sister, the easiest and least awkward way I can think of to let people know they are siblings, is just one of them mentioning a parent in dialogue. Like “That sounds like something dad would say.” or “Mom wants you to visit soon.” Idk something like that. That seems really natural to me, as it’s normal to bring up parents in a conversation with siblings. This seems like it would help establish a natural feeling sibling dynamic.
- when a character is telling/recalling a story about their childhood and it's written as extremely detailed dialogue with quotes and everything like...girl we know u don't remember the direct quotes and super specific details from when u were 8. Also I know a brother/sister irl that call each other "brother" and "sister" 🥴
I read a lot of Wattpad when I was in middle school and now I cannot stand books with “bad boys” anymore. Like if the description says anything like “resident bad boy” it’s a no for me love. Bad boy is also the equivalent to a “player” for me, so no
something i hate is in enemies to lovers. don't get me wrong, i love the trope, but there's this one pet peeve i have during the books if the trope is enemies to lovers, they should fall in love toward the very VERY end (like 50 pages left) of the book cause then there's more like pining or sm ig and also the miscommunication trope bc U COULD HAVE JUST TALKED IT OUT LIKE -_-
Omg I swear!! Who "accidentally" perfectly falls into someone's lap or when they trip they fall directly on top of each other chest to chest?! Like what? Especially when neither of them express the pain LOL I'd imagine if someone fell on me my first instinct would be to scream "ow wtf"
The timeline thing is BRTUAL when listening to audiobooks. Because I'm not tracking that shit well enough and I'm not gonna skip backward to figure out when the previous chapters were.
for good YA contemporary books that have realistic teenager behaviour/banter, i would recommend alice oseman and emma mills since they're young authors you can tell they actually know how young people talk/behave and tbh their books are god-tier
If anyone HATES love triangles, read The Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare. There’s a love triangle but it was done in a way you’ve probably never seen. It’s the only love triangle that exists to me.
One of the things that I've come to HATE in books since I've grown older and matured in my reading style is... LOVE TRIANGLES. It literally gets me every time. If I see in a book's synopsis that there's a strong love triangle, I most-likely won't even read it (unless it's written by one of my fav authors). I just hate the love triangle so much because it has been overused (not just in books, but in TV SHOWS AND MOVIE TOO!!!!) to a point where I literally RECOIL inwardly on myself at just the mere thought of it. 🤢 Like, I always know who the girl's going to end up with, so it's just painful for me to have to suffer through 300-400 pages of back-and-forth, when I know who she's going to fall for anyway. It's like gurl, move along- I don't have all day to wait for you to pick the man that I always knew was right for you. 💅
lollll same. I feel this on such a deep level. I will literally drop a book if I catch a hint of a love triangle because it is so frustrating and such a waste of plot. Just finished a book with a love triangle that once again convinced me why I will never read anything with that trope again.
@@seaweedbrain4127 Lol I thought about picking up the Shadowhunter series for like 2 years, but then realized that I'd never have the time to tackle all of the books. 😂 Plus, Infernal Devices- 🤡
omg yes the “my hands so tiny and his is so big🥺” is so annoying like we get it damn for example in love hypothesis i kid you not she mentioned how big Adam is like 40 times LMAOOO
THE DATES THING OMG YES!!! i hate that bc then i'm like wait what year was it in the last chapter? how much time has gone by? how old is the person now? n it's just takes a lot of brainpower that i don't have
I just wanted to say something about memory loss trope: I thought I hated it (while never actually having read a book with it lol) and I didn't understand when you said it was god tier for you, but I now I read a book with it and my heart and soul are completely shattered to pieces, and then put back together, and yeah... it's god tier
The date-chapter titles thing had me dead because I also don't read chapter names💀 . If I even happen to skim the title of a chapter, I legit won't even remember it once I'm past that page. I'll literally get lost in the timeline and have to flip back. Ugh and if the book is also a dual POV, there's even more flipping.
I literally don’t even read chapter titles, it’s not like I avoid it, I just forget to lol. Unless it’s a book with multiple povs and the character’s name is on the chapter page, I forget to look at it.
This was a year ago, but even though it's not the cultural norm in English speaking countries, my sister and I (non-asian) call each older sister and I call each other "sister"
I kind of hate blatant PDA hahahahaha like public make-out scenes or flirting loud enough for everyone to hear ughhhh maybe it’s bc I literally could never do it myself so being in the head of the mc during the PDA scene gives me so much second hand embarrassment it becomes borderline painful :D ALSO THE TEENAGE TALK WRITTEN BY ADULTS AGHHHH I HATE IT BUT IT MAKES ME LAUGH SM
I hate the "I forgot your name" trope. It's in EVERY. Single. Book. when character A hates character B and will butcher his or her name on purpose. Like.... ??????
omo to one up the repeated size references, i read a book where the heroine kept talking about how ~milky white~ her love interest was and i was like... interesting :\
I HATE random incest moments. Like when was that ever the move. Gender norms being pushed i hate more though, "oh my hands are so tiny uwu" I always have to set the book down and breathe.
I don’t know if you will see this comment or not. But if you want to read the most devastating historical book of all time, you should read “The Rape of Nanking.” By Iris Chang. Maybe this book won’t be your style. But it’s educational and I urge you to read the first 20 pages at least.
Totally irrelevant but how tf were you eating that one bag the whole video? And the video before this???😭😭 Girl it would've been gone after the first 10 minutes
OK but what if it's the cultural norm in the fantasy world / the world where the story takes place then is it OK to call their siblings brother or sister ? Also dude I call my sister sis all the time

the hating game was so bad with this lmao
and how big the hero is * cough * the love hypothesis

Not TSLD being on my tbr 🤡🤡🤡 but it’s dropped low 😀😀
insta love needs to be stopped
I HATE miscommunication in books. Drama that can be fixed by a simple convo. It makes me cringe and frustrates me the whole time it’s going on 🤮
😩😩😩
Cough Mortal instruments and infernal devices
this isn’t about the video but u are literally such a comfort youtuber, obsessed with ur channel and always recommend it

Pls drop the book title 👀👀
Heartsong by TJ Klune (it's the third book in the series, but I would 100% recommend the whole series)
The date-chapter titles thing had me dead because I also don't read chapter names💀 . If I even happen to skim the title of a chapter, I legit won't even remember it once I'm past that page. yess the "brother/sister" thing is sooo annoying to me! Like no one's going around saying "hey brother how's it going"🤦
RIGHT??
Honestly tho some character really be making me cringe cuz of the things they say •_•
IKR
LOL i saw a post where it was like writers who make their characters call each other brother or sister are only children.
BAHAH

"random incest moments" lmaooo you're so right. also about the "I'm so smol" thing- too much emphasis on that for what? it's not a personality trait.
^^
