The Bank of Canada needs accountability

  • It’s time to hold the Bank of Canada accountable.
The Bank of Canada is so powerful, it can devalue the money you have in your pocket.
Canada’s state media has thus far refused to hold them to account. So, it’s up to us.
This week, I’ve introduced legislation in the House of Commons. The Bank of Canada Accountability Act will empower Canadians with the ability to fully scrutinize the activities of those at the Bank of Canada.
Share this video with your friends and family, it’s too important.

I like the new style that the Conservatives are taking. Talk to us, explain to us. Change the way politics is done, you have open line of communication with the citizens, you don't even need to talk to the other parties aside from in the house. Kudos Andrew Scheer, do this more please.

Why did Scheer promise to move the Canadian Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem ? Because Trump did it and he is nothing but a puppet-on-a-string. You want accountability ? That would have been a complete violation of International Law. Why did the Cons muzzle scientists that were studying Climate Change in the Arctic ? The minute you start doing that is the beginning of the end of an informed society. You want accountability, these clowns should look in the mirror.

The nation needs to see this. There's a direct cause-effect relationship between Trudeau's deficits and the inflation we're seeing now. Thanks for the video Andrew! I voted for you in 2019 knowing how much danger this country was in under Trudeau's reign of terror, turns out I was right. Doesn't take a genius to know that he'd wreck our economy. The Bank of Canada did what every other bank around the world thought was the right decision at the time; which was to stimulate the economy when everything got shutdown; they know they stimulated the economy TOO much and didn’t make the right call to stop it earlier. But, it’s not a reason to start having political influence over our institutions when our politicians themselves have ulterior motives.

Before the 1990s many Private Companies also offered employee this but the Canadian recession in the 1990s lead to pension shortfalls and many bankruptcies. Canada went through Pension reform in the Private Sector and most Companies got rid of Defined Benefit Pension and went to Defined Contribution Plans. This took the liability off the employor and created products that the Financial Industry could charge employees an Annual Management fees for regardless if your investment performed well or poorly.
The Canadian Pension Plan was going to face shortfalls as well with interest rates falling in the 1990s so they allowed investments in riskier assets as they did not want to increase contributions or make Retirement age older than 65. If the stock market faces a severe decline for many years and other asset classes fall we may see shortfalls again with the CPP as a large percentage of our population will be drawing down CPP.

    THIS is Brilliant!!
Thank you Andrew for informing & educating your fellow Canadians! It’s a refreshing approach of communication, it’s as if you were sitting in our own living rooms having a discussion on what’s really happening! At the end of the day, we are all in this together, weather one is in public office or a private citizen, we all should be demanding accountability to the bank of Canada and our elected government!
Keep the conversations coming! I like this new Conservative approach! 👍

When one talks about the massive debt being incurred during the pandemic, it seems Sheer misses one serious point. Who benefited from all the piles of cash being thrown around. Would it be inconvenient to talk about the upward transfer of wealth that took place? It would seem so.
I don’t imagine someone like Sheer is going to call out all the big corporate welfare recipients who were happily driving the whole scheme from the outset. Not just in Canada either.
When the policy changes come to reign in spending and “fix “ inflation, pay close attention to where the savings are to be had. It sure won’t be beneficiaries of the pandemic.
We have seen this show too many times...

Next question is : Where is the interest going to come from when the bonds are due? It wasn't printed into existence so... They have to borrow that too. Or, issue more bonds.. Same thing.

Accountability? Jus tin ,ya right . Justin's one ace in the whole. When justin is out by some means
He printed money like Germany did so one loaf of bread is worth millions litterly. This is why the gold backed system is needed it is ful proof.Bonds are printed, goverment buys them , banks charge interest on these sold bonds . BRING BACK SLOAN ,he warned this , actually he was 1 or 2 of people in parliment that spoke up. Noone backed him , including my favorite politician. Andrew

Large financial institutions actually create new money when they buy government bonds as well. The only thing is that private banks are limited in the amount of new money they can create to buy government bonds through banking regulations.

I have so many questions in trying to understand what happened vs what should have happened so I am going to try to limit it to one. With the benefit of hind sight what would have been a more fiscally responsible response to the pandemic while still keeping Canadians safe? A lot of money got spent but some of that money needed to be spent. Let's have some specifics on what went right and what went wrong without focusing on the obvious low hanging fruit that are all the Scandals the Liberals had like the WE Charity.

Andrew, I'm sure you and Pierre know that the BoC provided interest free loans to the federal government for major infrastructure projects like the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Trans Canada Hiighway system. It's funny how this public banking tradition 1935-1974 ended because it was deemed inflationary. Maybe it's time for us to use this same argument against the current practices where money is loaned into existence. With our current 1.3 trillion federal debt, it doesn't look like the private bankers (BIS) post 1974 have done us any favours.

Well…technically the BoC didn’t physically print the money per se, that was the question they were asked. Anyone who’s ever responded to external customers on inquiries know the games that can be played with words
