I found this really interesting. I have watched lots of videos about The Wheel of Time series and they’ve never made me tempted to read the series, regardless of how much I love fantasy books. What you say about how needlessly long they are does strike a nerve with me, and what you said in the video about Brandon Sanderson doing such a good job with the last book is interesting to me as I finally read one of his books (the first Mistborn book) last year for FFS and loved it. I am looking forward to reading more of his stuff but definitely felt that he had an engaging style that I could imagine would cope with the weight of a long, epic narrative.
I’ve stalled at 5-and-a-bit Wheel of Time books with no desire to continue.
There’s probably an entertaining and compelling series of half a dozen 400 page books in there somewhere, but I’m not going to wade through the rest of the chaff to find it.
I will say that the fact that Brandon Sanderson took on the job of finishing The Wheel of Time has put me off dipping into his own books.
I made it through 3 of the wheel of time books, my god there's so much slog..
"Let's go into this village & sing some songs".."let's go into this next village & sing some more songs".."oh look let's go into this next village & sing even more bloody songs"🤦♂️🤯..
Oh and pull some hair braids..😡..
Haha well done sir..
The thing that bothered me with the riddlemaster trilogy isn’t a single actual riddle in the damn books! And the plot twist/revelation at the end of the first one was singularly unsuccessful.
The great hunt is where I stopped with WoT, what a slog, and the repetition was awful….
I read Conan the Avenger (great), Lin Carter’s third green star novel (surprisingly good) and Brust’s Phoenix Guard (pretty good, but mostly made me want to reread the three musketeers).
I hope you make more videos like this! Especially about fantasy/sf, maybe horror?
I wrote a long comment giving my opinion of The Wheel of Time, but I deleted it. I'm turning into Steve! 😂
The Wheel of Time is my favorite fantasy series of All time
I've heard this from lots of people! I want to understand how it could be so!
At the time in my life that I read it, it really helped me to escape. It's what I needed. That's why I can look past the flaws. I recognize them but I still find it enjoyable.
Happy to see some fantasy but as usual I have a hot take on your opinion raised. I recently read the first 3 books in the Wheel of Time and I feel each has noticeably less sludge than the last with book 3 feeling very lean. 🤷🏻♂️
LEAN??????? good gawd, man! What is life like in the completely alternate universe where you clearly live? Am I still a sexy influencer in that universe?
@@saintdonoghue a universe where 1,000page epic fantasy is the norm and Steve you are giga-chad.
Wait, so you are perfectly okay with reading the ENTIRE Wheel of Time series but still you leave us in the air about the mythical Proustober event you once promised! Didn't someone even send you the entire Remembrance of Things Past in hardcover?? But no, you'd rather slog through Wheel of Time instead. We need Frieda to talk some sense into you!
I'll be tackling Proust in Proustarch, as has been long planned!
