    The shark is actually the LAST surviving "Bruce" from the first Jaws movie in 1975! It was actually discovered hanging in the middle of a car junkyard and the owner didn't even realize the historic significance of it until the Executives from Universal arrived and confirmed that it was the last shark prop from Jaws!
    They had actually been on the hunt for it for a while when it was finally found!
    When it was found it was literally falling apart and in serious deterioration but the junkyard owner realizing what it actually was donated it to the now infamous Academy Museum!
    They refurbished it and put it on display for all people to see!

      I read about it being in a junkyard in the northern part of LA years ago while I was actually working at a company in the valley. I looked up the Junkyard on google earth and found the shark. Turns out it was just a 10 minute drive from where I was, so after work I hopped in the car and went to lay eyes on it myself. It was cool and felt like a little private moment with me and film history. I'm very glad that it was recovered, restored and taken somewhere that it could be more revered and appreciated!
      Edit: this was made using the original Bruce mold for the movie but it was made to be more durable to hang and be a photo op for universal studios Hollywood. Eventually they made a new one that looked a bit more realistic and whoever was in charge of the project threw this in the pile of stuff going to the junkyard. So the junkyard got a bunch of wrecked cars and a random shark. They mounted it in a circle of palm trees and left it there for years until it was rediscovered.

      It's the last surviving casting (in fiberglass) from the original Bruce molds. As such, it is important, but it was cast later on for use as a photo op in the park, and is not a prop used in the film.
      The junkyard owner had it up on a pole and knew exactly what it was but declined many offers. His heirs let it go after he died. Being fiberglass, it was still in decent shape, just needed a little patching and a paintjob.

    At the start, I saw a clip from the movie “Selena” and reminded me that it will be returning to theaters soon as part of an anniversary celebration of the film show release. I am glad this museum showed every aspect of the history of film and how it came to be.The first ever “film” was a series of pictures of a horse galloping, this was revolutionary in two ways. The main point of it was to see a horse gallop to better understand what a horse looked like when galloping and how it worked and what the movement looked like as everyone knew back then that a horse would be suspended in the air, where all fours are off the ground, but they wanted to understand better when it was. It was done by having several cameras set up and have a photo taken each time the horse passed in front of each camera. This would also lead to the discovery of multiple photos at a time and flipping through them can show you movement, which later then lead to video cameras and movies/films with moving images/imagery and not just standstills.

    • @michelehood8837
      @michelehood8837 2 роки тому

      I learned just recently that the horse-galloping contraption is called a zoetrope. Francis Ford Coppola named his production company American Zoetrope after it.

Just a block up the street are the La Brea Tar Pits and the LA Museum of Art. You could spend several days just exploring that one-block stretch of Wilshire Blvd.

It is the best-preserved Ancestral Puebloan archaeological sites in the whole of the United States. Ancient cliff dwellings, beautiful canyons, tonnes of giftshops, museums, information centres etc.

    Hi there! For the filming of wizard of oz, the costumes for the munchkins weren’t found at thrift stores in 1938. Costume designer Gilbert Adrian designed all the costumes for wizard of oz. thrift stores weren’t as common in 1939 as they are today. Thrift store would have been filled with 1800s though the 1920s product and
    Not costumes as much.

    If you like movie museums, Jacob, you should check out the Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens. It includes exhibits on movie and television history: the art of makeup; props; costumes; vintage cameras and televisions; demonstrations of various aspects of filmmaking (sound effects, soundtracks, animation, etc.); movie magazines; movie and television-related toys; Muppets; etc. There are also movie screenings and occasional temporary exhibits. Plus the museum is near the Kaufman Studio. When it was still owned by Paramount, many classic silent and early sound films were made there.
