I love how everyone calls necromancy forbidden and evil, when enchantment wizards are out here controlling people’s minds, and evocation wizards level entire cities.
Exactly! So what if a few liches use necromancy for evil purposes - there are plenty of evil wizards out there, and you don’t see any of them getting a bad rep.
I really appreciate the information and suggestions you gave in the Charm Information section. I have seen so many videos about this school without discussion of the realities of playing the class. Super helpful!
Thank you for that! Charm is a tough mechanic, and without an understanding of how it works it’s so hard to get a grasp on what to do with bards and this kind of wizard
Charm Person in the older editions is pretty brutal. I believe in 1st-2nd it lasts anywhere from a day all the way to 6months or so based on the intelligence of the charmed creature In 3e it lasts an hour a level and can double that duration with the extend spell feat You could potentially convince the already charmed creature that you are casting a protection spell on them and just recast charm person again before the time runs out
I have a really good character concept for this one and I think sin will absolutely love it the character's name is Ruggs Funny a Harengon enchantment wizard (obviously a buggs bunny inspired character) who is a comedian that uses a combination of magic and humor in combat and does a few comedian routines without said magic (because he's chaotic good) and just wants to bring the positive aspects of the fey into the lives of others to improve society in his own whimsical way and show others that life isn't always bad and there are positives a silver lining in the storm clouds he's favorite saying is "there's always a rainbow around every corner" because that's what he's grandfather always said and his grandfather Toony Funny who was an illusionist wizard always encouraged the best in Ruggs and now that he's grandfather has passed away Ruggs wants to fulfill his grandfather's dying wish and spread goodwill as far as possible which is why Ruggs Funny is an adventurer while I personally think that the fey are more neutral in nature but even i can appreciate the Disney fairy tale perception of things the world is already difficult enough as it is and sometimes we all need a Ruggs Funny from time to time
The toon force is strong with Ruggs Funny. That’s a fun subclass. I have an idea for a necromancy wizard that uses a pop up book for a spell book and I think that could translate really well to a character like that. I love the old school loney tunes. I am so old but I remember watching them all the time. I am so with it. It’s funny it’s heartfelt and I would love more than anything to see Ruggs get pissed off and go way to far! It would be scary
I think it’s important to just play that one wizard and not make them every single one the same way. Spell selection should be concise to that specific character.
my biggest problem with enchantment is when I want to beguile the mind of enemies and innocents for days or permanently its not allowed by for some reason enemy npc bosses are allowed to do it and when I raid their spell books after killing them they don't have any special charm spell that isn't just something a player can just learn on their own.
There is something to keep in mind using Enchantment Magic during social situation: as far as I can see, speaking incantation to use Enchantment during social moment is probably fastest way to gain suspision not only against the target but also for bystanders who would not be kind to you. You can solve this by getting Subtle Spell thru Meta Magic Adept, but you can do it only twice a day. Dont get me wrong, Wizards can be very versatile, Enchanters especially after 10th lv, for example, do you wanna make your melee buddies better at Crit Fishing than Champs? Double Hold Person!
@@TheSinisterheroes I think both Charm Person and Dominate both need Sight and in case of Suggestion, the target needs to hear you (not sure how Vocal component works here though). As strangr as it sounds Scribe Wiz at 6th lv can cast Spell from Manifest Mind's floating Tiny Spell book which is much less detectable than Humanoid caster which makes your suggestion much more viable. Dont get me wrong, Double Enchantment spell is always good time.
Maybe I'm slow but I'm new. I looked in the players handbook and I found the school of enchantment. But it didn't list the spell "sleep" like they did online
The school of enchantment wizard dosent list it’s spells there in the spell section it will have spell lists that will depict what spells a wizard could use. There’s also an app called spells 5e that can easily breakdown and list all spells available to all classes and the like.
@TheSinisterheroes Omg. Thanks for your reply. U just gained a subscriber! 😊 I'm creating a hexblade warlock with a custom lineage that allowed me to get fey touched. Fey allowed me to get a free spell from the school of divination or enchantment. I just found the spell list online. I chose "sleep." My Dm Is my roommate. She's giving me flak about how it doesn't list "sleep" in the book, but online it does. She says I can't go by online. She says i really don't know what school the spell "sleep" came from. I need to have definitive proof from the book. I'm new and confused. Its op build I tried to replicate....I just think She's being petty because of my OP build. 😞 Any suggestions?
Oh yeah it’s from the players handbook it’s available for bards sorcerers, and wizards by default. It’s available for the warlock archfey subclass twilight clerics and redemption paladins the dimir guild of ravnica background also gives it to you as well as the dragon mark of hospitality. They can check 5e tools as well as dnd5e.wikidot.com. It’s all factual and it shows all the facets of it. Also I am more than happy to help out if they want to msg me. I’ll verify it. Thanks for the subscription!!!!
For obvious reasons when you really want to dominate someone to do your bidding, you just turn them into undead... by why stops there? Just get a bag of holding, turn a couple of people into ghouls etc, tie em up good, and just keep stuffing people into your sac. Eventually you'll dominate a whole kingdom, and if anyone says otherwise, just dump your bag out and run. I'm a necro fan, but yeah enchanter is the sly work within the courts type of evil. It's what the mastermind should be.
This subclass gains benefits in social situations, but the power of the wizard comes from its spells. The combat effectiveness and the utility all comes from your spell selection, very few subclasses give you a flat bonus to damage. It mostly comes from how you use your spells. Long story short your benefits with this subclass though not always combat oriented, will not slow your other aspects of the game.
No, enchanters are not "slept on", they are ignored, as all the bad subclasses are. I've played one, so I know. Charms without memory wipes or illusions are sure-fire ways to garner hatred, as nobody likes having their minds/emotions messed with. Then there is the unreliability of the spells, with a delineation between humanoids and monsters, with the more useful monster spells being 2-3 spell level higher and thus harder to get. But it goes further. There are many creatures who have resistance (like elves & fey types) or immunity (like constructs, etc) to charm effects. Then there is the mechanics of the spells, where the enemy gets to save every round to shrug it off. Yep, enchanters suck.
Not completely wrong. But they are in the top half of wizards. My experience with twinning charms were fairly good. And the hypnotic ability has been clutch in many situations. Most combats are 4 rounds so if you steal an opponents turn that's 25% of thier action economy.
I completely disagree. But hey, each table is different, so maybe they suck at your tables. That's unfortunate, because it's such a good, powerful, and fun subclass! - The Innkeeper
I think the effects of charm effects do alot more than people give them credit for. That being said it is something that is very dependent on how your DM’s run them as well as the kinds of monsters you face. If your constantly fighting undead charms are not as effective which is true. But the more diverse the monsters you face the better the availability for charms to really impact your game play.
I love how everyone calls necromancy forbidden and evil, when enchantment wizards are out here controlling people’s minds, and evocation wizards level entire cities.
Right? Creating free labor and alll of a sudden your a bad guy. That bridge break down it’s a down pour? Zombies are your answer but nooooooo “morals”
Exactly! So what if a few liches use necromancy for evil purposes - there are plenty of evil wizards out there, and you don’t see any of them getting a bad rep.
It’s just their awful PR team - they probably shouldn’t have used the undead for that purpose.

Charm person was such a beast in early editions now it just dosent seem as useful, though if you do get in the habit of using it, you do get addicted

Your point at about 8 1/2 minutes, not going after every spell out there, other than ritual spells, with that caveat in place, I agree, 100%.

That’s really a dm issue. I think that could be really simple
Geas causes the charmed condition, and cast at 9th level is permanent until dispelled.
Devastating mentality. I love it.

@TheSinisterheroes I have a question. As a hexblade warlock, can I use the invocation: agonizing Blast In level one?
Only if you roll variant human or custom lineage and pick the invocation feat
The most evil wizard of them all
I am seriously going to have to look back at charm in earlier editions and revamp it for 5e like it’s so misunderstood.
Second most evil imo, but yeah, I love it.
Oooo what’s the first most?

Some sort of ghoul nuke mage hand the bag of holding to be turned inside out. Just sit back relax and watch a kingdom fall to its knees
