20:52 So fun fact about Aerodactyl; there's lore in-game that implies that it's Mega form (seen here: 20:58) is its true form. To quote the Pokedex; "Mega Evolution awakened some dormant genes, bringing back the sharp rocks that once covered Aerodactyl's entire body. Some scholars claim that this is Aerodactyl's true appearance."
It wouldn't be exactly correct to say Diancie isn't related to Carbink, it's just they can't actually evolve into one, but Diancie seems to be more like a mutation of Carbink, but it's unknown how this mutation occurs
So Steel and Rock type Pokémon are usually associated with having the best defenses. Usually paired up with other types that make them even more defensive or have its own gimmick in battle. Rock in particular is a bit lower than Steel when it comes to usage by players, but even a small chunk of fans is very big with how popular Pokémon is. Also Ken. It’s funny that you mention the Ancient Fish Pokémon, Relicanth, looks like it had a map on its skin. It’s actually a required Pokémon to find 3 Legendary Pokémon. One of them actually in this video, Regirock. Legendary Pokémon are one-of-a-kind, powerful Pokémon you can find in all the games, but the methods to finding them usually change for each game.
Relicanth is based on the living fossil coelacanth. It was also used for a super secret puzzle you had to do to unlock the 3 regi's in pokemon sapphire. I fell inlove with it, loved its rock head ability allowing it to use super powerful moves that would normally hurt itself using, but rockhead means it can ram into enemies without a scratch. Love it so much, although I don't got many other rock types that I super love.
This is so fun watching you two react to these Pokemon-type video studies. Yeah, there is a lot of cool Pokemon designs out there. The likable fantasy appeal with less is more approach makes Pokemon work.
Rockruff is one of my favorite Pokemon ever. It's so adorable. They didn't show too much about it, but Lycanroc actually has 3 different forms it can take depending on the time of day a Rockruff evolves. If it evolves during the day, it becomes the form that they used the most to represent Lycanroc, the midday form. If it evolves at night, it becomes the midnight form, the one with red fur and red eyes that stands on two legs, resembling more a werewolf than an actual wolf (hence the lycan in it's name, which can be short for lycanthrope, another name for werecreatures). The third form is the one with orange-ish fur, the dusk form; this requires a Rockruff with the ability Own Tempo, a special ability only certain event Rockruffs could have that prevents it from getting confused, and evolving in the evening (the time varies from game to game). Pokemon has a lot of crazy rules.
That's what's so charming about Pokemon, no matter your preferance, there is a Pokemon for you. Big, fierce monster. Small cute pet. Cat. Dog. Fish. Bird. There is a Pokemon for all these and more.
You should see Rockruff in it's game, & the anime. It's got *A LOT* of energy and is usually playing with the Pokémon Professor of the generation, by tackling him 😂😂
It's pretty cool that you're reacting to the other Locksting's "type explained" videos? I mentioned this before but this "rock type pokemon explained video" (and the one for the steel types) are some of the oldest "pokemon type explained" videos. So they don't fully grasp the actual theme that these series of videos ended up having. Those first two are way more focused on explaining what kind of steel/rock the pokemon are. But the rest of the videos are more about explaining very interesting details and lore about what actually makes the pokemon belong to the types they're part of. And the quality of those other videos is also significantly better. And trust me, it's pretty interesting. So it would be really cool to see you get to those other videos too.
I think you guys would really enjoy the Honest Game Trailers for the Pokemon games. They summarize the gameplay and plot while adding plenty of humor. At the end of each trailer, they list off the Pokemon of that generation, but with the comedic names they made up for them.
Am I happy you guys are still watching Pokémon lore videos. Your reaction to Rockruff was so wholesome. Again please check JPR too, he focus a lot more on the in-universe Pokémon lore. There's the How Powerful are each Legendary and Mythical Pokémon.
I can share that “Rock Type” Pokémon are the most unique kind of Pokémon out there but yet they are also the most popular in some people’s favorite 😌 so I am curious on what kind of type is next on the list. Maybe Psychic type or something more popular
Rock type Pokémon are very good at being heavy hitters in a Pokémon team as they generally have decent attack and decently strong moves to deal damage with while being defensive enough to resist many of the early game types NPCs use like Normal or Bug type. My personal favorite rock type is Midday from Lycanroc because he is a good boy and is the most loyal of the three forms. He is really fast for a Rock type having base 110 speed and hits hard with base 100 physical attack. And also too, those rocks on his neck are as sharp as actual knives.
It's great you're continuing to dive into Lockstin's work! Besides the recent Bascalibur video(Which rightfully angered the Godzilla fandom due to alot of misconceptions and poor research), his Pokémon content is top-tier! Please check out Thorgi's Arcade in the near future! With the recent release of Marvel Vs Capcom collection, and announcement of the 2nd Capcom Fighting Collection, hype for fighting games are at a all-time high, it's perfect time to jump into his work! I recommend his two main series, Build the Roster and Fighting Game Retrospectives!
Don’t worry if you’re not into rock types. Not many are in fact they are most overlooked typing or confused with another type called ground. Now the next ones should be more interesting to hear about
Nice to see you guys continuing on your watch of Lockstin & Gnoggin's Pokémon Type videos 😁. Alright, I think next up would be the Poison-Type video. Can't wait to see that one.
yes, we can all agree that Rockruff is great. It's one of those pokemon I never evolve because it's perfect as is. If the anime taught me anything, you don't have to evolve every pokemon if you don't want to
I love Sudowoodo a ton. One of my favorite instances of it is in Pokemon The Power of Us, which is one of the movies. There's a character in it who is constantly lying to himself and his sick niece, and he's partnered up with a Sudowoodo which is a cool detail because Sudowoodo is essentially a rock Pokemon that disguises itself as a grass type to avoid water types, since water beats rock but grass beats water. Unfortunately though that means people often try to water it out of kindness lol. A detail about Nosepass and Probopass I really like is that in the wild you commonly see them facing north since they're magnets. Also the "arms" on Probopass are actually mini noses. Theres 3 of them, and they can detach and fly around freely. It makes Probopass a pretty fun Pokemon to watch fight in the anime, altho the games don't really do much with the mini noses. I really love Roggenrola, a cute detail is that it's shaped like a guitar, hense its name sorts sounding like "rock and roll". Ash had a Roggenrola, and even though it has no facial features, just an ear in the middle, they still gave it so much personality. The episode where he first meets it is one of my favorites from the Black and White saga. Lockstin said here that Carbink and Diancie aren't related but that's not really accurate. Yeah it's not possible in gameplay to get a Diancie from a Carbink, but in the Pokedex Diancie is said to be a rare mutation of Carbink. Carbink live underground in huge communities, and Diancie is their princess! Something to note about Aerodactyl is that when it mega evolves and gets all spikey, it's said that the mega revolution energy is unlocking dormant genes, suggesting that the revived, normal Aerodactyl that we know today isn't completely accurate to how they were millions of years ago, but mega evolution gets them closer to their original state. A theory that I like regarding why the Fossil Pokemon are almost all rock types is that rock might've just been a more common type back in the day. It also kinda just fits with what we know about dinosaurs, having super tough skin and boney protrusions, seems pretty rock-like. In the time since this video though we've also gotten some new fossil Pokemon, none of which are rock type, and they're a super interesting topic which Lockstin has made a video on! So that would be worth checking out for sure. I loved Dwebble as a kid, I was one of those kids who was always turning over rocks to see the bugs underneath, so Dwebble was like a match made in heaven lol. Dwebble and Crustle technically aren't crabs, they aren't crustations, they're bugs, although their relationship to the rocks they live in are heavily inspired by hermit crabs. There's also not really a real life bug you could point to that fits them well, the closest one would probably be scorpions becahse they kinda have that type of shape when seen out of their shells, but I mean, so do hermit crabs! Lol.
the Hermit Crab Pokémon you were talking about was Dwebble and the Petrified Wood Pokémon was Sudowoodo. edit: I'm not listing my favorites, you just seemed really fond of these two is all.
Well the anime and recently some games do show some fossil pokemon still living to our day without having been brought back and they look the same and still have rock type so i guess its not part of the process of being brought back. Especially because the last fossil pokemon we got werent rock type so i guess that confirms it.
Something you guys should also check out is the starter pokemon of every generation, meaning your first parnter pokemon that you choose at the beginning of the game to help you, each generation lets you pick 1 of 3. The types being Fire, water, and grass types. Id love to see which you would pick and see what they evolve into and see if you still like them 😊
Yeah another pokemon video!! Love seeing your reaction to all the explained designs. To be fair, the rock type is probably, in my opinion, the most boring type of all pokemon types haha. So you got that one out of the way! :D
I'm really enjoying these video's. Your reactions are great. (Loved the bit with Rockruff and Lycanroc─Some of my favorite pokemon. I always try to have them on my team) And there's a lot of stuff in these video's I had no idea about. They're entertaining and educational. Thank you for this reaction. I hope you'll consider doing more pokemon-related video's in the future.
(Rock-types post-Gen-7) - *Hisuian Growlithe and Arcanine:* based even more on komainu statues - Hisuian Avalugg: probably based on permafrost or ice-covered mountains - *Drednaw:* alligator snapping turtle; probably its shell is hard as rock - *Rolycoly, Carkol, Coalossal:* coal; on a wheel, as a minecart; and finally a titan carrying a pile of coal - *Stonjourner:* a trilithon, like a part of Stonehenge - *Kleavor:* has arm-axes made of obsidian, which can splinter on impact - Nacli, Naclstack, and Garganacl: rock salt - *Klawf:* crabs that camouflage themselves on cliff faces - *Glimmet and Glimmora:* they look like flowers, but they're actually copper sulfate crystals - *Iron Thorns:* Paradox version of Tyranitar - *Ogerpon (Cornerstone Mask):* this mask resembles a butsu-men Noh mask, based on deities that bring forth Vipaka (the Buddhist term for the results of karmic efforts) - *Iron Boulder:* Paradox version of Terrakion
Good reaction. i just need to emphasize that most the narrator points out are educated guesses as the official source materials don't confirm what he says. The only thing lore correct in this video are the names & the small bits of game entry he cites to make his educated guesses. Don't get me wrong, it's a fun video, but I wanna make sure you guys don't confuse this as actual lore.
Hm, very interesting, so have you already planned which Gnoggin Video you do next? If not, how about his Ground-Type Lore Video? If he’s made one and if you haven’t done that one already?
Favourite Rock Pokémon is probably Onix, too bad it loses it when it evolves into Steelix which is a Steel type but hey who cares. Steelix is also awesome

Once y'all are done with the types, i would highly reccomend Locksitn's Kaskade region. Basically him making an entire pokemon region.
