I can see a future where they won't be released on Xbox anymore, because there won't be any. Except maybe a Windows PC with Steam, GOG etc. on it, being an Xbox in name only.
I really miss the old days of Xbox. I'll never forget how big the Halo 2 launch was, LAN parties, third party exclusive games, ect. Now, I dont even know what "Xbox" is.
Phil said the industry isnt growing, but wat he meant is, the xbox industry isnt growing. Ps and switch are doing alright. Any success xbox has, is because they bought success by buying studios! With each step they take, they seem to make xbox less relevant, less needed!
The gaming market isn’t growing, it’s just a fact. That’s why Sony games are coming to pc. You say Sony and Nintendo are doing alright. Xbox is doing alright as well as they turn a profit. But doing alright is not the name of the game. Infinite expansion is.
This walk down memory lane, isn’t talked about enough by current fandom. So either we are that old that we remember how good Xbox was or we are surrounded by new ppl.
Microsoft has always been bad at marketing anything outside of Windows. Their mobile division with windows phone and the MS Zune are examples of this. Where are those products now? The Xbox brand and identity of today is just an extension of the terrible messaging and marketing that is constantly plaguing this company. Always reactive and never proactive in communication. Always stepping on a rake as some have eloquently put it. In terms of games, Microsoft also doesn’t understand the creative process to make something actually good. Most of their first party games are rushed, mediocre, and soulless while MS distributes their half baked IP like a new version of windows. You’ve said it before and I agree that I think there’s a bit of an internal struggle in regards to the xbox division too. Phil for all of his flaws, I think did not intend for Xbox to be straddling the line of publisher and console platform. I think there’s been a lot of steam rolling from above by Satya and company to put everything everywhere. They want to run the gaming division like windows. And that may make them the return that they covet, but it will ultimately sacrifice the platforms brand and identity as a result. I think the only way forward for them to keep the platform alive especially from a hardware perspective is to do what you’ve mentioned in the past and make a hybrid type console that would allow gamepass, steam, epic, etc.. I think that would give them a very intriguing proposition in the console space. Otherwise, it’s only a matter of time before the console and brand as we know it becomes an after thought with their current course.
I gave up on Xbox. I don’t care if they have an identity anymore. To be honest whenever I hear something from Xbox I just don’t care. They became an afterthought imo.
Xbox as a brand and console just isn't as important to Microsoft as the Playstation brand and console is to Sony so they have a much easier time casting it aside in favor of getting maximum revenue.
"Roughly the same number of gamers buy into console every year, so what did xbox do"? Made their consoles irrelevant by no longer having "console exclusives" and releasing all their 1st party games on pc too. 😂
I mean is making games more easy to play a bad thing? Being able to play through the cloud means that people can try a month of gamepass ultimate without investing alot of money on a console. A series s could be great for someone that can't afford a more expensive console. Making games go multiplatform isn't necessarily a bad thing. As someone with a series x. I don't feel like I'm having something taken away from me just because playstation users can now play the same games as me. Also if games are timed exclusives then i still get something for being an xbox user. The new Indiana Jones game is a 4-7 month timed exclusive and honestly that's still pretty long. Most games hype does within a couple weeks. Maybe playstation will boost sales. But that's about it. It's basicly just to make more money.
The argument of trying out Gamepass before investing would be a great argument if it weren't for the fact that there isn't any reason to invest after the "trail" period anyways. With no console... no exclusive games... no real identity. Xbox is just an app.. and granted they may be the pioneer app but eventually when the others catch up Xbox won't have anything "special" to keep people invested in. It's also extreamly telling that the biggest news at the moment is an Indiana Jones game temporary exclusivity... Indiana Jones a franchise that never should be exclusive to anything, beloved but honestly forgotten as a franchise being the only thing that Xbox can currently wave it's flag about is just... pathetic.
Microsoft got into the gaming industry because of how much the Sony and Nintendo are making money. This company was never interested in making games just be part of the circle.
Not part of the circle... what they wanted was to groom a generation on their brand so that when the tech was avalible they could tie in all the electronic services and subscriptions into one "box"... an "Xbox One" specficly. Thats how Bill Gates did it and they wanted to do it again and it might have worked had they not been such greedy pricks about it. But now they messed the bed and they have been floundering trying to find a new endgame... Xbox the app is the new endgame now.
The worst thing that ever happened to this Xbox generation is the Xbox series S. It’s forced game developers to prioritize the Series S over the X. Game devs don’t have this problem when developing games for the PlayStation 5.
Xbox is an absolute embarrassment. But considering MS isn't even good at most of the things they do, it isn't surprising to see Xbox take a nosedive. Government contracts can't save your consoles Microsoft. A lot of PC users don't even like using MS Windows software. When you try to reach everyone (2 billion gamers quote), be everywhere, you reach no one and are nowhere. Growth is unsustainable.
Ways Sony is Behind Microsoft in Gaming: 1. Cloud Infrastructure: Xbox Cloud Gaming on Microsoft’s Azure lets players access games on any device; Sony’s cloud service, reliant on Azure, feels underdeveloped in comparison. 2. Games as a Service (GaaS): Microsoft’s Sea of Thieves, Minecraft, etc., drive long-term revenue; Sony’s focus on expensive, single-player exclusives doesn’t offer the same residual income. 3. PC-Console Integration: With Xbox Play Anywhere, buy once and play on PC or Xbox seamlessly. Sony’s PC releases lag behind with no unified experience. 4. Mobile Gaming Expansion: Microsoft has plans for mobile gaming and owns Candy Crush. Sony is late to the mobile space and lacks significant mobile IPs. 5. Subscription Services: Xbox Game Pass offers huge value, including new releases on day one. Sony’s PS Plus doesn’t provide first-party games at launch, reducing its appeal. 6. Cross-Platform Ecosystem: Microsoft’s ecosystem ties Xbox, PC, mobile, and cloud together smoothly. Sony’s ecosystem feels more isolated by comparison. 7. Community and Social Features: Xbox’s strong social tools (cross-platform chat, multiplayer) enhance community engagement. PlayStation’s social integration still lags behind. Conclusion: Microsoft’s ecosystem is future-focused, built for accessibility, and ongoing engagement across devices. Sony’s traditional model, while delivering strong exclusives, feels less adaptable in the age of cloud, mobile, and cross-platform play.
Microsoft knows that Xbox will never be the top dog in the console wars with the massive lead that Sony and Nintendo have over them. And so they’ve given up on that specific race. Now they’ve changed their sights and worked to solidify their place as top dog in a market that hasn’t really taken off yet - Streaming. They have the servers, they have some of the biggest franchises in the world and they are already pushing towards cloud gaming. They’re focusing on the long term and future proofing themselves. Even if Xbox hardware vanished tomorrow they’d still have a massive presence and foothold in the gaming industry. If Sony, Nintendo and Xbox consoles all disappeared tomorrow, who do you think would be best off? Xbox. That doesn’t mean they’re the best but it’s to demonstrate how much they’ve invested in places that their competitors won’t or can’t. Xbox isn’t in the console race anymore. They’re in it to be the biggest publisher in the industry, to be the Netflix of gaming and to completely dominate streaming when that finally takes off and becomes the new frontier. You can’t get Game Pass on PlayStation or Nintendo but when the day comes that streaming becomes the new norm it will just be on every TV. That’s the future that Microsoft is hoping for and it’s the race that they’ll instantly win as soon as it becomes a race. Until then, Xbox will keep puttering along and continue to look like a bizarre experiment. It looks like Xbox is being pulled in all sorts of directions with no real commitment to any one direction but that’s not true at all. Xbox is being pulled towards streaming and Game Pass. The hardware will continue to exist because they still need those millions of users. Microsoft will not give up millions of its users in an industry that they’re heavily investing in. In other words, Xbox hardware isn’t going anywhere. This isn’t the end times of Xbox hardware. It’s the end times for what we all thought the gaming landscape was supposed to look like with multiple competing consoles in it. Gaming is still so young and we assume the way we’ve always seen it is the only way it can be.
I just downgraded by Series X to a Series S and plan on buying a PS5 in the somewhat near future. PlayStation isn’t in the greatest state right now, but there’s a huge library of exclusives that I’ve never played and want to check out.
Hey Reforge. Curious as to your thoughts about Playstations strategy of making these tv and movies based on their IPs to bring them to the playstation brand. Do u think there's the same issue there of focusing on the Non gamer?
Xbox at this point is just a side project for the Juggernaut that is Microsoft..if it fails, it won't hurt them at all...only the gamers will complain..
no shit. im surprised for the first half of its life the xbox brand was doing amazing. But as usual anything outside the corporate Microsoft business world, it inevitably goes to shit lol
Game pass on every device is what xbox is now the only problem is fanboyz like you clinging to 10 years ago wanting console wars when its not a thing anymore.
The last reported estimate for Game Pass subscribers was around 33 million Do the math , $20 times 33 million subs Those seem like pretty good numbers Also, Game Pass isn’t adding games for free. All games added are under deals where Microsoft pays them in advance so devs have already collected money.
@@3c__c3 Studios need money to make their games, and exposition to make their game known from.players. And this money can't come from the revenues of the game ! So they have to borrow to banks, or use a crowd funding solution, or for some lucky studios, they can get a Game Pass deal with Xbox that gives them money (without having to give it back to Xbox) depending of the size/kind/quality of the game, depending on the delay of the release of the game in the Xbox Game Pass service (Day One or not), depending on the time it will be kept in the Xbox Game Pass service, and depending on the duration of an exclusivity period. And Xbox Game Pass deals give money to studios BEFORE the release of the game, but also exposition (Xbox Game Showcase, Xbox Partner Preview, Xbox Podcast, etc...), and millions of subscribers that want to try the games that come in the service.
@@3c__c3Can you explain how 😂? It’s like a mantra that you keep repeating. First off we live in a world where free to play games make the most money. So multiplayer games actually don’t need sales as much as they just need people playing their games. And so when a game like rainbow six siege is on game pass, they collect revenue from the gamepass payout and then they get money from micro transactions. Your logic makes no sense
Honestly sounds like roles just sifted but I think they could have shifted the roles back to them next gen if they were still focused on hardware they have the fund from daddy Microsoft but I don't think Microsoft's shareholders were willing to wait
I think what you are saying for the most part is correct. I just don’t think it’s a problem. They are now in a position to where PS 3rd party exclusive deals won’t really affect them. A problem for Xbox… possibly. But it’s definitely a solution for Microsoft.
The problem is that they haven't been releasing quality games...it doesn't matter how many platforms they try to release their games on ...they haven't been releasing quality games. If they were they could take risks such as focusing on trying to get none gamers in their ecosystem. They just haven't released quality games ...also day and date is ridiculous and gamepass is also ridiculous
We may get one more Xbox console (next-gen), and then that's it. They will focus on publishing and cloud gaming rather than the hardware. But I could be wrong; I'm just spitballing.
The catalyst of failure for everything media in this generation comes from a failure to appeal to a broader audience. Star Wars, Marvel, Halo, The Halo Show, Xbox; etc. If you can't stay true to the source material and the existing fan base of whatever you're making, you may as well not even make an attempt.
Two things people missed on the ABK deal. King was the real grab.. it makes MORE profit than both Activision and Blizzard. On top of that, it gave MS a big chunk of the mobile games market. Something like up to 40%. That is the real achievement
@@tristman8413 for pointing out that MS is making bank off mobile gaming and not the big bad CoD everyone thought was the reason they bought ABK? Apparently I am not the casual here. if i were allowed to have my gaming systems at work, i'd be playing all day
Yup I agree I repeat myself again With the ABK buy Halo gears Forza Fable were converted to second kind ips The most important ips for Microsoft are now call of duty diablo Candy crush AND world of warcraft With only the microtransactions that those games justifies the purchase
Oh, they have an identity. It's just an identity that does not make xbox gamers happy. I get it, but business is business. If they need to go multiplatform to make the enormous ABK investment back, that's exactly what they are going to do. Of course, they don't like the loud vocal minority to come after them in social networks, so they try to delay any problematic announcements as long as they can.
PlayStation introduced Trophies. Xbox had Achievements. And Trophies are better. Also let's not pretend 360 was more innovative than it was. It had some strong third-party support yes but that's because PS3 had a really bad start and high price. But in the long run I think PS3 did more for the industry than the 360, kind of shows in how each system finished the gen. PS3 ended very strong while 360 just kinda limped to the finish line when it came to games. Microsoft probably wanted a 5, MAYBE 6 year term that gen and without Kinect they probably would've released the next Xbox in 2010 or early 2011.
PS3 didn’t do anything innovative. The truth is that the only reason it overtook the Xbox is because it was free to play online. That makes a huge difference especially outside the US where people don’t have as much money. Xbox live was a much better service than psn. PS3 didn’t even have party chat. The fact that PlayStation was coming off the most sold console of all time and had to play catch up really tells you how good the Xbox 360 was. Anyone who slanders the 360 is objectively just a fanboy who didn’t even own one
Xbox has no identity and targets gamers that cant decide theirs either. 360 was the last good run they had. I play mine more than my xb1. PC makes the newest gen series s/x not needed.
The only remnant of Xbox in the internet are the few terminal Xbox fans that are still writing cope at every opportunity. The other fanboys of Xbox that weren’t terminal are trying to say “PC” and pushing it as consoles… When PC has ALWAYS been the obvious best choice. Because the issue here is “Price + Perception”. Because 90% of the people watching the graphics videos on a RTX are people too poor to buy the graphics card. Not something to be ashamed of… BECAUSE AS SOMEONE WITH A GAMING PC ITS A MARKET WITH CONSTANT PS5 SUPPLY ISSUES WITH A CONSTANTLY EVOLVING PARTS MARKET. So you get the best experience. But Johnny still on PS4 and will stay with his switch instead of switch 2 won’t see the reason to change to PC.
Xbox once cared about developers and about players. now they act like they care about consumers with Gamepass, but all they wanna do is becoming the biggest gaming subscription service everyone goes to. kinda like Netflix and Steam combined or whatever. Gamepass will continue to cost more and every other thing they are doing will cost more sooner than later. They only care about money and not at all about games. If they actually cared about games they would have build a strong foundation to develop their own games and would have tried to sell their console like that instead of buying everyone they can who is well known, beloved and/or succesfull. I cant be the only one who thinks that every triple A Xbox exclusive since Gamepass is absolutely lackluster and disappointing even tho some of them arent bad games. You can just see they dont try as much. They just do whats needed to make money.
@@repodog6191 they atleast did everything for developers and players back in the day. Its not like I truly believe they did this because they ACTUALLY cared
Xbox has pivoted so many times this generation. I think the hardcore xbox fans moved to pc. With the games running much better on pc and every xbox game releasing day and date. People are starting to realize they dont need an xbox to play xbox games. The exception will obviously b gta 6 tho. If people have a series x they will keep it if they play alot of gta
I think they could rebuild their image if they refocus on the core gamer experience. Alot of people got consoles because they are cheap and just work. Focus on this. Build a medium power console with focus on 1440P and 60fps. if they can get the price around $399 that would be ideal. Nobody especially with the way the economy is now is trying to pay $600 dollars for a console. They need to develop great games from their 1st party studios. Gamepass is great and all but it shouldn't their main focus. its like they have just given up and let Sony have the console market.
Also a lot of the things you say Xbox One innovated with, Sony already did with the PS3 and even the PS2. PS2 had Netflix support in Japan for example. You just probably didn't notice because you were wrapped up in Xbox at the time. A lot of new PlayStation heads don't even know this stuff.
PS is clearly loosing its identity. PS was about single player and exclusive narative adventure games. Now they try to make multiplayer games. And their games are not exclusive anymore, as they are released on PC (and even on Xbox like MLB The Show and soon, Marathon). Xbox always had its constant identity around multiplayer gameplays and live services to connect people between them, empowered by Xbox Live service. And Xbox always justified its online gaming service with its own games (which is not the case for the PS+ mainly justifed by third party games) Halo, Gears Of War, Forza, Age Of Empire, Killer Instinct, State Of Decay, Sea Of Thieves, Minecraft, COD, Overwatch, Elder Scrolls Online, and so many games over the years still continue to maintain this identity. They spread even more this identity by connecting the PC to the Xbox ecosystem in 2016, with cross-play, cross-save, cross-progression (and cross-buy). It was the natural expansion of one of the core identity of Xbox, which is connecting people. And I think they are trying to push its identity even farer, on other plateforms by the standardization argument that the industry requires now to lower the production costs.
Not even close. Xbox identity has been actively fighting to maintain 3rd place in the console market for 20+ years. All xbox users say "is it on gamepass?" "If it's not on gamepass I'm not buying it" Also the MLB told sony they would revoke the license if they didn't make the game multiplat. Which is good on the MLB. Sports games shouldn't be exclusive to one console.
I tend to disagree. I think Xbox as a brand is very gamer focused. When Phil talked about losing the most important console generation. I do believe He saw this a time to transition. So it may seem convoluted when you focus on the traditional model of exclusivity. But I think Xbox is ahead of the curve in terms of the PC,Mobile, and Cloud fronts.
We have found someone with some brains... I welcome your comment!!! you have the best comment here and the most trueful one for that matter and yet it is ignored... it goes to show there is a lot of unhappy playstation owners projecting onto Xbox for some odd weird reason. Xbox is the largest gaming platform now with over 500 million users yet people here are living in a dream world!!! why do they keep focusing on Consoles when Xbox is more than a console.. its beacasue they cant not see any further than the plastic box in front of them preying to the Sony gods for games.. ( now port begging for xbox ones ) in 10 years time the gaming landscape will have gone fully in the direction of mobile and cloud with PC being the next go to for games and console being the least used. And where will Playstation be??? they will be purchased by Apple or Tencent or Google as Xbox are so ahead of the competition they have no competition at this point. but lets listen to these people moan about a brand that has enhanced its portfolio to add more customers to its ecosystem while Sony sits and twiddles its thumbs!!! but hey lets still moan about Xbox.. Delusional if you ask me...
How sway? They're consoles aren't selling and their games are selling less. So now they're gonna be everywhere. What curve are they ahead of? Because? Nintendo is making more money than XBOX and they're not doing any of that.
@benjamincurtis1412 their Software is doing well. Microsoft software is projected to move into second behind Tencent in terms of game revenue in 2025. Console sales are simply a conduit into their ecosystem. But Microsoft has shifted to bring the ecosystem everywhere via game pass. Their expansion into PC,Mobile, and Cloud gives the great growth potential. With about 40 studios, they have potential to push out a robust number of titles
@@jimmymac2292 How mmay of thoes studios have they had for years and still little to no content. So far this year only 1 AAA game and that was only 5-6hr long. They're not ahead of the curve they are searching for space to slip into and be relevant. If PS said not to them porting their I.P there software wouldn't be doing as well.
@plummleys4514 I think the issue more so lies with how some people view the industry. As they see console as the place where "real gamers" play. But the truth is "real gamer" is subjective. Mobile esports has gained alot of momentum and the mobile market is huge in Asia for example. The FTC filings provided further insight about growth potential citing Cloud,PC, and Mobile having far greater, while console having little room to grow. I just think it's hard to see the transition when you are use to the market being a certain way for so long
Their problem is that pesky Xbox. They are already everywhere, but they can figure out the PR transition from console manufacturer to just being a software 3rd party publisher without pissing off and alienating the customers and dwindling general good will they still have.
Xbox is just a bad idea that was made.. I honestly don’t even see a point of them making xbox at all. As you mentioned barley any gamers on Xbox the company ain’t doing so hot for Xbox. In a hole PlayStation already beats them in every way alongside PC beating all consoles since day one. PlayStation = Relaxing Console to have Xbox = Not even worth the price PC = Mostly for competitive nature for gaming and work Other gaming platforms idc about them so I’m not going to include them. Overall xbox is just a bad batch. They don’t care about their gamers at all besides heir overpriced subscriptions $20(USD) every month is ridiculous way worse for paying gasoline for your vehicle. I understand PlayStation is similar $60+ for their subscriptions but at least you pay one time until the next renewal. I pay for 1 yr of PS+ for cheap from G2A or even Instant Gaming (I find ways to pay cheap) and if needed I’ll even pay that $60+ for that 1 year. Xbox on the other hand we consumer can’t do that with gamepass Ult. We have to resort purchasing GP Core $60 for 12 month + additional $10’ish 1 month for Ult to make it 1 yr Ult paying closely to $70’ish.. Sorry to say PlayStation is cheaper than Xbox overall when it comes to subscriptions. Speaking behalf on regular subscriptions. People treat GPass Ult as regular for that 100+ catalogs of games. PC their no need to mention we all know that shit completely free to play online just requires internet and money to buy cheap games due to competitive prices.
Xbox is completely irrelevant to the gaming scene, yet you need to make a video about it every now and then. If that brand has no value, or no future, why do you need to talk about it? We should talk more about games, than the companies behind it.
@@ReforgeGaming interesting letter saying Xbox will continue to have exclusive content while it looks to add more platforms to its ecosystem. But people will still miss read it and continue with their agena as they have been proven wrong yet again!!! the non story like its always been will continue giving more press and awreness to the Xbox brand regardless if people think its negative or not!!! Black Ops 6 has just proven how gamepass and game sales work in tandem regardless of the media's bad takes!!! if gamepass grows it will be revenue taken away from Steam and Sony and well know how much Sony relies on MTX from COD to balance the books. its just a matter of time before it all clicks into place of which it now has begun!!! Another WIN for Xbox!!!
So what Phil is saying is that MS don't have the talent in house to make any games that can sell 10-million copies. They have a lot of games in GP, but the promise was 3-4 AAA games a year, and to this day, they have never delivered on that. I bet if they start to deliver on that today, they will get their 100 million subscribers.
I agree that they lost the customers during the Xbox one era because of the console it self! The series x is a great console and got there main base back but then the pandemic mess things up, it effected the Xbox more than PlayStation and suffered for it! The Xbox is still thriving and getting there focus back in my opinion!
Anyone old enough to remember when crackdown 2 demo let you play the whole game? I can’t remember, but all you had to do was sign out and back in when playing the demo . I remember I did the cheat and kept my Xbox 360 on for days. By the time, I restarted my Xbox, they had patched it. I still ended up buying crackdown 2. Lol
Sad thing is all it would take to at least get them some good will is a couple of wins. Even just 2 or three absolute no questions asked WINS. They can’t get anything right. Hellblade 2, starfield performance issues, game delays. Not to mention the catastrophe of the series s situation. All they needed to even stay afloat in our eyes would be a quality halo, gears presence. Or something similar. It’s over. The ship has sailed.
The gaming market isn’t growing *fast enough* in the console space. It grows, but at a crawl. It is truthful though that natural growth of the market seems to have stalled, so the only growth one can achieve is by shrinking someone else - which I find amusing Phil complained about this a couple years ago because Microsoft is known for doing this - growing by taking from others. Xbox has failed this gen and last gen in that regard after receiving some of the biggest natural growth in gaming during the 7th gen. So now they need to grow elsewhere - and in gaming, it seems we hit a saturation point except for the tail end of games where sales come from other parts of the world that aren’t on the forefront. The problem they have is that their consoles sell poorly outside of the U.S. as well unlike Sony which continues to sell their older consoles in other countries for years after the generation has ended. And console sales = game sales. That’s the name of the game. So Microsoft grabbed hold of the biggest titles they could and continue down the path of publisher. Just showing me they want out of the premium console space. Next hardware leap for them is going to be a portable and dockable thing like the Switch. Find that happy space between what Nintendo is doing and what Sony is doing, but also sell on those platforms. Microsoft wants money and they’re done waiting for Xbox to be doing it all on their own. Phil has had his leash tugged by Satya.
What do you mean xbox are targeting non gamers? Last I checked, every games are made for gamers to play. Just because xbox decided to put gamepass on the firestick, samsung TVs, tablets and mobile, does not mean that those targeted audience are not gamers. So I want to know were you get the idea that people that own this other products besides and actual xbox console to play gamepass are non gamers, because if that's the case, people who own gamepass on PC are also non gamers
I generally don't think there is a big Xbox problem. if your talking about game sales they are doing ok and games pass earns roughly 2-3b a year, they have a mix or first, second and third party games coming to the platforms every year. Plus with the likes of call of duty, fifa, f1 and more on gamepass. Then console sales are bad yes but look at the wii u sales to the switch sales. Xbox console sales will come back stronger now people know cod is on that platform cheaper than on the ps5.
So by your logic cod being on gamepass will all of the sudden increase the console sales? Nobody will buy an Xbox over PS5 just because they can rent cod for 240$ per year, instead of buying it for 70$ on PlayStation which is cheaper.
Those third party games sell better on playstation. The lack of game sales is the reason heir putting their games on playsyation. They made it hard on themselves for telling their audience u don't need a console and that to not buy games. It is what it is
@@alex_gaming9585 I got my first Xbox 360 for cod and same with the PS4 and Xbox one people will buy consoles to play games on them and with gamepass its got a lot of games that are fun to play
I'm a PC gamer myself so maybe I am just ignorant of this point. I don't see what console gamers get out of exclusive games or why they feel the need to be forced to buy hardware you may not really want to be a good thing in any way. I also don't understand this "identity" argument. In most cases it's just people wanting certain games locked to certain hardware. It's another play for exclusivity so I don't know why people repackage that as an "identity". You want to play video games as a gamer I understand that part. What I don't get though is why it's a good thing to lock games to certain hardware and I will never understand that argument. I like certain games like Elden Ring I wouldn't want them to keep it away from console gamers or anyone else. Black Myth Wukong same thing. Black Ops 6 same thing. Xbox and PlayStation are just publishers who make hardware at the end of the day and that's it. They are nothing more than that and nothing less than that.
I think it’s in many ways a remnant of past console wars, where each platform fan wanted their particular platform to be biggest so that it would be guaranteed that their platform of choice would attract as many games and publishers as possible. This was especially true for a generation of gamers who could only convince their parents to pick up one platform. So if something came out on a platform you didn’t have, it sucked. Now many of those gamers could buy multiple platforms, but old habits die hard. Even still, there is a general psychological aspect at play of having your choice validated. Out all the ways to play, you chose a particular one and an exclusive reinforces that you made the right choice. Lastly, I also think there has been a bit of a Cold War between console and PC gamers, especially with console gamers not wanting PC to get their games and potentially pull away players and, in turn, 3rd party publishers. They want to make sure they get everything. I personally think it’s a bit ridiculous. I think PC gamers and console gamers are just generally pretty different. I have a gaming PC and use it sometimes for games that are just next-level better that way (Cyberpunk), but I generally prefer the couch console experience AND most of my friends are on console, so the majority of my gaming happens there. TL;DR: old habits and fear of buyer’s remorse
@@SubTXT_ Best way to avoid buyer's remorse is to buy what you want. Buying what you want though has nothing to do with whether other platforms are getting the game or not. That doesn't affect your enjoyment of the game. That doesn't change the game. The only difference is a logo on the box pretty much and that's it.
@ I don’t disagree with you. But you asked a compelling question so I took a shot at trying to unpack the likely psychology of it. I actually don’t hold any of those views. I own literally every console and a gaming PC (granted, I bought the PC after the Xbox and pretty much don’t touch the Xbox anymore because they quite literally offer the same games)
@@SubTXT_ Yes and you made that choice for yourself. Doesn't seem like you have any buyer's remorse to me. I understand that they think this way it just doesn't add up logically. Emotional response vs logical response rarely ever meet hand in hand.

Everyone knows this but the only users who are in denial are the xbox fans themselves
Xbox doesn't want gamers. It wants subscribers.
Microsoft doesn’t want either. They want profit through publishing.

Any success xbox has, is because they bought success by buying studios!
With each step they take, they seem to make xbox less relevant, less needed!
The console market hasn't moved in over 20 years bruh. Shawn Layden said this years ago.
Stop comparing PlayStation to Nintendo
The gaming market isn’t growing, it’s just a fact. That’s why Sony games are coming to pc. You say Sony and Nintendo are doing alright. Xbox is doing alright as well as they turn a profit. But doing alright is not the name of the game. Infinite expansion is.

At what point are they just calling it Xbox because Microsoft gaming seems to corporate
i actually agree with this
that's honestly going to be the final nail in the coffin. it will be one of the worst rebrandings ever.
They became an afterthought imo.
i am seeing this in interest going down for xbox as a topic
Indiana Jones a franchise that never should be exclusive to anything, beloved but honestly forgotten as a franchise being the only thing that Xbox can currently wave it's flag about is just... pathetic.
Great analysis from start to finish
Thank you!
Ways Sony is Behind Microsoft in Gaming:
1. Cloud Infrastructure: Xbox Cloud Gaming on Microsoft’s Azure lets players access games on any device; Sony’s cloud service, reliant on Azure, feels underdeveloped in comparison.
2. Games as a Service (GaaS): Microsoft’s Sea of Thieves, Minecraft, etc., drive long-term revenue; Sony’s focus on expensive, single-player exclusives doesn’t offer the same residual income.
3. PC-Console Integration: With Xbox Play Anywhere, buy once and play on PC or Xbox seamlessly. Sony’s PC releases lag behind with no unified experience.
4. Mobile Gaming Expansion: Microsoft has plans for mobile gaming and owns Candy Crush. Sony is late to the mobile space and lacks significant mobile IPs.
5. Subscription Services: Xbox Game Pass offers huge value, including new releases on day one. Sony’s PS Plus doesn’t provide first-party games at launch, reducing its appeal.
6. Cross-Platform Ecosystem: Microsoft’s ecosystem ties Xbox, PC, mobile, and cloud together smoothly. Sony’s ecosystem feels more isolated by comparison.
7. Community and Social Features: Xbox’s strong social tools (cross-platform chat, multiplayer) enhance community engagement. PlayStation’s social integration still lags behind.
Conclusion: Microsoft’s ecosystem is future-focused, built for accessibility, and ongoing engagement across devices. Sony’s traditional model, while delivering strong exclusives, feels less adaptable in the age of cloud, mobile, and cross-platform play.

@@ReforgeGaming can you please provide an adequate response with sensible reasons as to why I’m incorrect instead of laughing?
As always stated, they've always been their own problem. they did this to themselves
Precisely
Playstation started the trophy not xobox
Xbox originated the concept through achievements Sony just came along and name them trophies
Wrong. Sorry bud

Gamep-ass wont work because studios needs real purchaces
Gamepass players spend more than people that is not subscibed. It was said many times by Phil and Sarah.
The last reported estimate for Game Pass subscribers was around 33 million
Do the math , $20 times 33 million subs
Those seem like pretty good numbers
Also, Game Pass isn’t adding games for free.
@@JonathanTacoman but still it does not work

They walked away from what made them great back then.

Xbox is a Developer/Publisher with a console... Sony is a console maker with some studios... 2 different approaches for the same market
We may get one more Xbox console (next-gen), and then that's it. They will focus on publishing and cloud gaming rather than the hardware. But I could be wrong; I'm just spitballing.
The new xbox already confirmed
The catalyst of failure for everything media in this generation comes from a failure to appeal to a broader audience.
Wrong thropies are after achievements. Please do not re invent the story

Phil Spencer and gamepass killed Xbox
Morning lono👍
good morning!!
What R U talking about
Also a lot of the things you say Xbox One innovated with, Sony already did with the PS3 and even the PS2.
All xbox users say "is it on gamepass?" "If it's not on gamepass I'm not buying it"
Also the MLB told sony they would revoke the license if they didn't make the game multiplat. Which is good on the MLB. Sports games shouldn't be exclusive to one console.
Love the stream bro! ❤
thank you!

( now port begging for xbox ones )
in 10 years time the gaming landscape will have gone fully in the direction of mobile and cloud with PC being the next go to for games and console being the least used.
I just think it's hard to see the transition when you are use to the market being a certain way for so long
Xbox problem is Microsoft
Their problem is that pesky Xbox. They are already everywhere, but they can figure out the PR transition from console manufacturer to just being a software 3rd party publisher without pissing off and alienating the customers and dwindling general good will they still have.
Xbox is just a bad idea that was made.. I honestly don’t even see a point of them making xbox at all. As you mentioned barley any gamers on Xbox the company ain’t doing so hot for Xbox. In a hole PlayStation already beats them in every way alongside PC beating all consoles since day one.
PlayStation = Relaxing Console to have
Xbox = Not even worth the price
PC = Mostly for competitive nature for gaming and work
Other gaming platforms idc about them so I’m not going to include them.
We should talk more about games, than the companies behind it.
the CEO of the biggest company in the world just released a letter about their future, so, maybe thats why
@@ReforgeGaming interesting letter saying Xbox will continue to have exclusive content while it looks to add more platforms to its ecosystem.

Lol
haha, i remember some demos had loop holes, but i dont remember that one
360 360 360
Dude this isn't your revelation. Everyone and their mother who watched the Xbox One reveal knew that was the moment they lost the gaming focus. C'mon.
my point is they are simply repeating the same mistake, but aiming the target elsewhere
To me, FPS WAS Xbox's Identity.
Xbox lost their identity when they went all in with the Kinect. During the last half of the 360 era.
I really wish xbox was more competetive Sony is really making some dumb mistakes because of the lack of competetion
I can’t tell if Saatya is helping or hurting because everything seems so upside down at Xbox
both xbox and PS need to expand to other regions they are giving pc a lot of real-estate that could be console .
Here's the thing, M$ has so much money it won't matter in the end no matter how bad they are they have the power to buy up the rest of the industry.
360 is gone
What do you mean xbox are targeting non gamers? Last I checked, every games are made for gamers to play. Just because xbox decided to put gamepass on the firestick, samsung TVs, tablets and mobile, does not mean that those targeted audience are not gamers. So I want to know were you get the idea that people that own this other products besides and actual xbox console to play gamepass are non gamers, because if that's the case, people who own gamepass on PC are also non gamers
11:46 uffff
Sony feels the exact opposite way according to the leaks.
Xbox is the greatest thing to happen to gamers all around the third world.

This whole gen has been lame on both sides but mostly Xbox. Them lil indie sprite games don’t count either
those are gravy on top if you are having a good meal
@ you eat gravy? Ew
