Love the chemistry between Jay and Donald. The ease in which they both communicate the knowledge they have makes it easy for me to listen and learn. Please keep this series going and perhaps expanding on it. Ty!
Indeed, and Jay has so much hands-on experience, owning so many of these special cars & having his own garage. For instance Jay describing the fact that for the Bentley already small repairs/maintenance items require the engine to be taken out. Wow! Man hours WERE cheap back then.
What a travesty that is happening to Jaguar. They were the quintessential sports car, beyond beautiful. Jay, we all hope you are doing well and recuperating quickly. Please take care of yourself. You sir, are a national treasure.
Ahhhh… the MGC… had one once. Actually… I had moved to NYC and sold it to a guy who had bought it for is daughter, if memory serves me correctly. The car was a blast. I had the two tops, too, and the 4spd with the electric OD. So much fun.
Jay is the Warren Buffet of the automobile world. Understands what he buys, holds them for years and grows his investment. But I bet it was more about his love for the cars. That Bentley is just something special.
So glad you saved that Bentley and kept it from being another race car clone. Well done! A real car guy knows & preserves auto history, along with mechanical aptitude.
Jay is absolutely a national treasure. The more time Jay is on this planet the better off every gearhead and even the world is. Thank you Jay for everything you bring to the world.
Similar to the Bentley, my grandfather bought a 1919 Pierce Arrow Inside Drive Limousine to save it from being turned into a fire truck (common at the time). Now, only 1 other remains like it.
I have an MGC GT and having owned a B for years beforehand, I have to agree with both of them. The MGB is a better sports car due to the weight balance but the C is just a better car overall, much more refined, smoother, better looking, it’s a lovely thing.
According to the data I can find quickly, a 1968 UK-spec MGB around 95bhp. the standard MGC UK-spec around 145bhp. Downton Engineering built modified MGC engines with around 175bhp. Careful choice of tyres and tyre-pressures sharpen up the handling.
They are great together. You feel the respect towards each other. I love the humour and the relaxed way of filming and taking time to discuss these cars in detail.
Back in the late 60s my cousin bought a 1949 Jaguar with a bad motor for $400 - he restored everything back to factory specs except the motor which was an inline 8 cylinder with a split open block - he installed a Ophinhauser v6 race motor with a 6 spd. transmission - it was incredibly FAST - approx. 180mph was possible - he had it painted Pearl White - last time I heard anything about it was that my cousin brother has it in California
A great summary. And I'm sure Donald just mis-spoke when he said the XK engine served Jaguar for nearly 70 years. As it was introduced in 1948 that would have meant it still being used up to 2018. In fact it was replaced by the all-new AJ6 in the early 1980s, although a few XKs continued to be fitted to the limited-production Daimler DS420 Limo up until 1992. Still, 44 years is still a good run.
Jay and Donald, Thank you both for this interesting series of comparisons. The banter between the two of you is filled with so much interesting information and humor. When I make it to Rhode Island again I'll be stopping by for a whole day yo take it all in.
Oh my gosh, “you enjoy driving the car for an hour and come back and work on for 3 and you’re a happy guy” ! My dad and his triumph spitfires😀 one for use and one for parts 🤣
20:50 The double crank/eccentric drive for the camshaft is the most beautiful engineering solution possible. There was a motorcycle (German, I think) that used the same system.
I love Donald Osborne. He is a car guy extraordinaire. My kind of guy. The XKE is the most beautiful car ever produced, bar none. A close second is the 1963 Studebaker Avanti. Both deserve museum status as the best design brilliance of the 20th century.
Thank you all at Jay Leno's Garage for another wonderful show. Having Mr Osbourne on is always a treat! Specific to the Jaguar brand, one ofthe best bumper stickers ever was on the the bumper of a Jag and said, simply, "...oh, but when it's running..." Priceless!
Jay, I owned a used MG Midget in undergrad college. I always thought the 3 windshield wipers looked cool. It was rusted out all around the bottom, but because it was the only sports car on campus it turned out to be a chick magnet. ;)
I just love these two gentlemen, it would be like earwigging on two gents in a fine old country pub in somewhere like Herefordshire, with a nice roaring fire on a cold sunny day.
Donald said "when you bought a Jaguar, you bought two". Coincidentally, it was announced today that the deputy prime minister during Tony Blair's premiership John Prescot has passed away. One of his nicknames was "Two Jags".
There is an old top gear interview with him and Clarkson where he explains that "one was a company car, so technically not mine" His lap was quite slow too.
Jay I grew up in Lawrence, Massachusetts right next door to your Andover childhood home. My mothers friend was actually a classmate of yours at Andover High School. I attended Salem State College now University where you donated $100,000. I have been a big fan of yours since the Tonight Show. Not sure if it’s from your comedy or our combined passion for cars and motorcycles. If you are ever back in the Andover area I would love to meet you. Thank you!
Thank you Jay for setting the Blue Train Race story straight that it was Bentley Mulliner Saloon. Many confuse the Gurney Nutting Closed Coupé With the Rexlan roof.
The Jaguar has always been, since the early 60's, my most favorite car! I must admit, I would love one of the 12 cylinder models restored and brought up to snuff, and made even MORE reliable. Cosmetically Original, but mechanically enhanced! There are a few places that do that to these old Jag's, but for a $Price!!!
Another fantastic show - but when aren't they. Three amazing cars. Surprised how good the MGC looked. Never been a big fan but might need to have a rethink.
Like Bill Cosby used to say, if you are not careful, you might learn something. I look forward to the next episode in this series. It's informative and humorous. Nice work, gentlemen.
As a kid growing up in London I did a paper round and would see the likes of jaguars triumphs MG 's And minis I became a car guy drolling over these vehicles I also witnessed the death of these affordable British cars and the car industry here in general . I also remember when E types Jags were available in the hoards between £1500 to 3k in the early 80's Truly grateful for living through that period
I love Donald and the information and humor he brings to this series. What a great man. Please continue to feature him as long as he is willing!
I agree, a fantastic addition and a great debater
Love the chemistry between Jay and Donald. The ease in which they both communicate the knowledge they have makes it easy for me to listen and learn. Please keep this series going and perhaps expanding on it. Ty!
Donald is such a cool and knowledgeable dude. Could listen to him for ages. Jay, your channel is such a treat.
Indeed, and Jay has so much hands-on experience, owning so many of these special cars & having his own garage. For instance Jay describing the fact that for the Bentley already small repairs/maintenance items require the engine to be taken out. Wow! Man hours WERE cheap back then.
Mr Donald Osborne what an Absolute Pleasure to Listen to that mans Knowledge.
Donald is the only American I've seen that actually pronounces things properly, nice to see they exist
Yes, but interestingly at 10:17 he then mispronounces Jaguar after having pronounced it correctly at the beginning.
Donald is a delight and look forward to each time he's featured. That E-Type just steals every scene it's in. What a gorgeous example.
This is the best show on UA-cam. I love them.
Man, what a treat, we can't get enough of Donald!
Mau aussi
Awesome series! The whole family watches. Age 13 to 97!
Mr. Donald is a pleasure to listen to.
Another fantastic episode with Donald and Jay!
you guys are just great together
Beautiful selection of cars as usual and the best car talk you'll ever run into
Always a great show
I’m so glad they are continuing this series
Absolutely! One learns a lot AND it's FUN! Perfect combination 🙂
We are fortunate to have the opportunity to learn from these two greats.
You two are great together! I love the reparté, both knowledgeable in their way, and the different personalities on why you like cars.
Me & you both 🤘🏻🏁
What a travesty that is happening to Jaguar. They were the quintessential sports car, beyond beautiful.
Jay, we all hope you are doing well and recuperating quickly. Please take care of yourself. You sir, are a national treasure.
That commercial is better suited for a Starburst candy commercial
Jay, I hope you are recovering quickly from your accident. Thank you for doing these programs.
another great one ... thanks Jay & Donald
I admire both these fellas so much. Sincerely appreciate what you guys do! Thanks!
Ahhhh… the MGC… had one once. Actually… I had moved to NYC and sold it to a guy who had bought it for is daughter, if memory serves me correctly. The car was a blast. I had the two tops, too, and the 4spd with the electric OD. So much fun.
Do you mean an MGB? Two tops? The MGC is a fixed head and there's no top to remove. I've got an MGB and wish it was a MGC.
@ no, it was a C.
@@jimchik oh my apologies. Though you meant an MCG GT. Of course MGC convertible. Very cool.
Jay is the Warren Buffet of the automobile world. Understands what he buys, holds them for years and grows his investment. But I bet it was more about his love for the cars. That Bentley is just something special.
Well put. Many people don’t know that Buffet doesn’t do it for the money. He loves the game, and money is an afterthought.
Best show on UA-cam. The cars, the stories, the knowledge, the people…simply fantastic!
So glad you saved that Bentley and kept it from being another race car clone. Well done!
A real car guy knows & preserves auto history, along with mechanical aptitude.
Wishing a speedy recovery to both Jay and Jaguar!
Donald is the man! Jay is the legend! Thank you both!
The Bentley is mental. ❤ WOW!!!
Will someone please wrap Jay in bubble wrap! Speedy recovery Jay!!!
Jay! Stay safe!!
Definitely 👍
Jay is absolutely a national treasure. The more time Jay is on this planet the better off every gearhead and even the world is. Thank you Jay for everything you bring to the world.
He needs a big human inflatable bubble
Flame/explosion proof bubble wrap 😂
Donald Osborne my favorite Jay I like you too Donald is so sharp Thank you both of you.
I love that Bentley. One of my favrourite cars ever built.
Jay, we all hope you are doing well and recuperating quickly. Please take care of yourself
I'm sure Jay loves all his cars, but he got more excited about that Bentley than just about anything! And it is stunning and amazing.
Similar to the Bentley, my grandfather bought a 1919 Pierce Arrow Inside Drive Limousine to save it from being turned into a fire truck (common at the time). Now, only 1 other remains like it.
Donald Osborne is one of my favorite people. His car knowledge is amazing.
What a great episode. All three are amazing.
The absolute best auto duo ever! Thanks, Jay and Donald.
Jays a great guy and it makes me glow with pride when he talks about British motors!
I have an MGC GT and having owned a B for years beforehand, I have to agree with both of them. The MGB is a better sports car due to the weight balance but the C is just a better car overall, much more refined, smoother, better looking, it’s a lovely thing.
Always an interesting video when these two get together.
Yet another brilliant video by two incredibly clever men
Your understanding of the value of money over time is great
Thanks
Thank you Jay, this is excellent.
According to the data I can find quickly, a 1968 UK-spec MGB around 95bhp. the standard MGC UK-spec around 145bhp. Downton Engineering built modified MGC engines with around 175bhp. Careful choice of tyres and tyre-pressures sharpen up the handling.
Jay and Donald really like to tease each other, it's a great show, well done gentlemen.
They are great together. You feel the respect towards each other. I love the humour and the relaxed way of filming and taking time to discuss these cars in detail.
I have loved this series as much as Mansions and Motorcars!
You guys are great, so much knowledge. Take care Jay and speedy recovery
Don and Jay work great together. Thx guys! Love the video! Well done!

Really enjoy these videos. I bloody love Jay, what a cool guy!
What beautiful cars. The Bentley is great. I really enjoy your videos. Do you have a museum of cars? Great Video. Thanks Jay. David.
These videos are a treasure. Thank you!
“Prima Donald”… love it lol
Between Jay and Donald, I’m sure they know 90% of what there is to know about cars.
They only built 100 of these. I have three of them. YOU’RE HOARDING! I love Donald.
Donald is a gem. I’m not sure who the other guy is with Donald; he’s ok, I guess. Donald makes him look good.
20:50 The double crank/eccentric drive for the camshaft is the most beautiful engineering solution possible. There was a motorcycle (German, I think) that used the same system.
Great cars, informative, fun chat! Wonderful as always!
I love Donald Osborne. He is a car guy extraordinaire. My kind of guy. The XKE is the most beautiful car ever produced, bar none. A close second is the 1963 Studebaker Avanti. Both deserve museum status as the best design brilliance of the 20th century.
Speedy recovery Jay!!!
I wish you a speedy recorvery, Jay. Thank you for the fascinating video.
Great series of videos, many thanks for sharing both
These guys are the best. I love watching them and I'm not really into cars. They make them so interesting.
I really am enjoying this series. Can't wait to see the next one!
Love these videos, you guys are awesome thanks
I really enjoy Osborne's commentary. He should start his own YT channel, though I'm thrilled to see him here on JL's Garage. Great teamwork!
Love this series Jay! keep it up
wonderful show with Donald again dear Jay. Just a little detail about the Blue Train Bentley, it was based on a Speed Six,not on the 8 litre engine.
What a trio!
Jay, I owned a used MG Midget in undergrad college. I always thought the 3 windshield wipers looked cool. It was rusted out all around the bottom, but because it was the only sports car on campus it turned out to be a chick magnet. ;)
A+ guys!
A friend bought an e type for £700 in 1968
It was 7 years old it turned heads then just as they do to day 😮😮 fantastic!!!!!
Thanks Jay and Donald❤️ that Bentley is just pure class
I just love these two gentlemen, it would be like earwigging on two gents in a fine old country pub in somewhere like Herefordshire, with a nice roaring fire on a cold sunny day.

His lap was quite slow too.
LOve this series with DOnald!!!!
I would love to see a good unrestored Triumph GT6.
Loving the series! Great video.

See, what makes this fun is the game aspect, but the conversation about the cars is equally as important to the game for context. I love this series.
I've always been a fan of the MGB GT
The way these two are able to go back-and-forth in conversation, It's almost like they've been doing blow all night.
Love these guys
These videos are awesome!
Thank you Jay for setting the Blue Train Race story straight that it was Bentley Mulliner Saloon. Many confuse the Gurney Nutting Closed Coupé With the Rexlan roof.
Absolutely love the Jaaag😊
I noticed the mirrors on the fender. My late father had mirrors on the fenders on his 1957 Chevy Belair
The Jaguar has always been, since the early 60's, my most favorite car! I must admit, I would love one of the 12 cylinder models restored and brought up to snuff, and made even MORE reliable. Cosmetically Original, but mechanically enhanced! There are a few places that do that to these old Jag's, but for a $Price!!!
this series is the best on YT... and 2 great characters as hosts.
I like Mansions and Motorcars better.
What a sturdy camshaft drive in the Bentley. 3 con rods between 2 similar cranks
Jay is a genuine piece of American culture and needs preservation too!
Best Jaguar joke: The Jaguar enthusiast is really excited because he just drove his new car across the country and it only caught fire twice!
I so enjoy these episodes. Two auto aficionados and lovers of the automobilia in their ultimate element! As Always, May God Bless you and yours! 😇
Donald, Jay and toolman Tim would make a great sitcom.
Another fantastic show - but when aren't they. Three amazing cars. Surprised how good the MGC looked. Never been a big fan but might need to have a rethink.
Love this episode ! Now do Italian and German cars.
Like Bill Cosby used to say, if you are not careful, you might learn something. I look forward to the next episode in this series. It's informative and humorous. Nice work, gentlemen.
Quoting Bill Cosby? 😬
As a kid growing up in London

The pair of them make a great double act!
So glad Jay okay still working couldn't be a better role model for no giving up
